    Try some old birthday cake mix and a 1/2 bag of cheap cat food. Mix up with some old milk out of the frig. Ready to use. Caught 26 hogs in 2 days. If you mix in vegetable oil. The smell sticks around longer, water evaporates too quickly. So try 2- 3 boxes of cake mix, 3-5 pounds cat food, half bottle of oil, and add milk to your like in consistency.

    Had to help empty a large outdoor freezer that had failed in the high summer heat. It had been setting for at least a few weeks before anyone noticed the smell. It was full of meat products, fruits and vegetables that had thawed, fermented and become juicy. The odor was like something from Hell. We completely filled a large roll-off dumpster with the contents and no one complained about the horrendous stink. Why?? We all smeared Vicks VapoRub under our noses and that easily masked the odor so we could focus on getting the job done. Give it a try!

Mix up everything and then add the corn. Put about 6” of water over corn so it doesn’t soak it all up. Use a bucket with holes to get it out so liquid stays and fill it back up with corn

    Hey Guys,
    I made this concoction earlier in the week and put it out on a Thursday morning. It was cold so it didn't ferment all the way but it still smelled ripe. Friday morning around 3:00 AM the hogs came in and ate every last bit. They kept digging and digging through the 6" hole I made until there was a trench. They then came in the next night and I was able to take one down. So, this works very well! Making a new batch (Grape flavor this time) for next weeks hunt, but this time keeping it in warmer conditions.

    All right I'm going to give it a try. I stopped the video and went and picked up the ingredients. Not knocking the recipe at all, but being one that makes wine in 5 gallon carboys, one packet of yeast stirred in the liquid will be plenty to get it to rocking in 24 hours. I've had hogs on my small acreage (7) for the past two nights and I need something that will keep them coming in on the regular.

    Dried molasses or cattle feed grade liquid by bulk works well. Don't waste 3 packets of yeast 1 will do and get the yeast in the jar and just use a 1tsp. Less expensive than the packets but the same stuff. Keep in refrigerator after opening. The sugar feeds the yeast, but corn is full of sugar as well.

He has probably a dozen cell cameras set up, and monitors them daily from a thousand miles away. There was never any sign of the hogs hitting the sites harder where we put out strawberry jello. They seem to eat what they're used to, and they kept hitting the plain old corn, and we had a little luck with molasses, but no more strawberry for us.

    Hey Guys,
    One more for you. When mixing all the ingredients together, specifically the yeast, do you have to be at room temperature or at least reasonably warm for this to ferment? It gets down into the 20's, 30's, & 40's during the winter here in NC, and I was wondering can I mix this, leave it outside to ferment at these temps?

    • @westtexashuntingguys
      @westtexashuntingguys  2 роки тому +2

      Truthfully, I’m not totally sure. I’m sure it would ferment faster if it was in a warmer environment, but I’m sure it will work as long as it’s not frozen!

    • @stricnine69
      @stricnine69 Рік тому +2

      It will ferment slower at cold temperatures. This is basically a sour mash recipe for moonshine. I make something similar here in north georgia. The only temperature requirements is you need luke warm water ideally to start the mix with. Too hot kills the yeast, to cold kills the yeast. Also my suggestion is to order some cheap bubblers off amazon. This allows you to put the lid on completely and will also tell you when the bucket is fully fermented.
      The recipe i use for hogs is get a 2 pound bag of sugar, 6 packets of koolaid mix (generic is cheaper) and about half a bag of corn and 2 packets of brewers yeast. Mix the same way these guys do it. Of course add water the way these guys do as well. Let it sit until it stops bubbling.

    • @billsharpton4206
      @billsharpton4206 Рік тому

      @@stricnine69 I brew beer at home. I pitch my yeast when the wort is at 70ºF or cooler. Bubbler is a good idea. You can use a plastic tube and let the end hang in a bucket of water and get the same effect. I'll have to save my spent grain the next time I brew. I usually have close to 30lbs in my mash tank when I brew a 12 gallon batch. I can harvest the yeast and reuse it for hog bait!

      The corn will only absorb until it reaches capacity. Also fermentation will end at a certain point. Once the yeast has eaten all the sugars and turned them into alcohol the reaction will be finished. It wont do anything else at that point unless more sugars are added.

    They do something similar just like that for baiting bear for the bowhunters. It works great

    Curious how y'all keep the hogs and racoons away while it ferments for a few days? I did this early in the year: mixed up the mash on a Sunday evening and set the bucket out to ferment, came back Fri afternoon (we live about an hour away) and found the bucket had been tipped over all the mash was gone. Anyone have any tips?

    Try using less yeast and some instant mash potato powder. I'm dad has real good results with it , he's down in Florida.

      @@westtexashuntingguys we've tried various fruits and vegetables, 3 types of scented corn and kool-aid. Could it be they've gotten used to the traps or could it be their getting enough to eat at nearby stands? If you buy bucket lids from beer and winemaking shops, you can get them with a rubber grommet lined hole in the lid, enabling you to use a fermentation lock (about $1.75), plus the couple of bucks for the lid itself. You can safely snap the lids on tight, minimizing the risk of spillage, should a bucket be knocked over by dogs or other critters...

    Thank you for your video.
    I have big problem with wild hogs recently..
    Made the hog bait exactly what you made and spreaded it to the ground where the hogs are activated.
    Problem is so many turkeys and big black birds loved to eat all the bait before the hogs coming.
    So had to dig some holes to put the bait then covered with dirt.
    I am waiting the results now...
