    Wow! I was just thinking about this the other day. How productivity and personal development and a perfect morning routine, etc. have become such trendy things. It made me have the same thoughts questioning it “if the world is obsessed with this, is it healthy?” Since we are called to be the opposite of ‘the world’.
    Wow, thank you so much for covering this topic. BTW I’m only 10 minutes in so I’m super excited to finish listening 😂😂😂

      I don't think the world is obsessed with it. It's easy to think so if you're in the UK, USA, Canada etc. (developed countries), but it's just a tiny fraction of the world. These trends are only 'trends' if you're in an environment that treats it so. For example, there's so many popular movements in the UK and USA, and then I visit Nigeria, .... and NO ONE cares. But yeah I get your point though ...

    Jeff and Alyssa,
    Jeff- I’m 23 but I’m telling you right now we have the same exact mindset and I understand you more than my top faves which include many artists, pastors, and teachers.
    I’ve followed your videos for like three years now and am just now writing to you! I hope you get this.
    I pray the Lord makes many more men and women like you two and that your marriage/life provides a solid base for our youth and young adults now to strive for!!!
    Thank you for your endurance, perseverance, and love. When I’m finished with my book I’m going to ask for you to read it and think about doing a forward (depending on how much of it you like!)
    Be blessed!! Love you guys

    Wowwwww!!! Thank you so much for this! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I’m in a season in my life where I’m super busy with work and by the time I get home, I just vegg out and watch UA-cam vids. Now I know that that’s isn’t really self-care and is more of something I do to escape. I’m definitely going to be more considerate and intentional with my self-care.

    Love this talk! I’ve found recently self care means a day of rest (Sabbath) and spending at least 20 mins with the Lord every morning. 📖 I also love spending time with close friends and my sweet husband 💛. What I loved about your insight was that even service can be self care. I love spending time with children so I hang out with middle schoolers every week and it’s so fun and encouraging - and it’s so much more than “self care” and more about spiritually development and it’s beautiful.

    Two nights ago, the evening before I heard this Podcast I was out with my husband and considering spending a little bit of money on myself, as I was walking around I was thinking “Why am I spending money on something that’s only gonna make me feel better for tonight?” So I started thinking of some things that have truly been on my mind to purchase for myself, and which of those things would be more of an investment into TRUE self care, rather than a consumeristic whim.
    God is speaking to me y’all 😍 Thank you Jeff & Alyssa for taking time to discuss these very important topics! It has started a conversation between my husband and I over the last few days ❤️

    This is exactly what I needed to hear. This podcast came to me at the perfect time. I work in a job with a very inconsistent, busy schedule of pouring out to hundreds of youth a day. I don’t always get people who cross my path who pour into me so it can be very draining. I’ve been in a funk over the past week of feeling drained and getting upset and frustrated easily. This video was so encouraging and informative to me- self-care is vital but how you go about it is also important. God bless y’all, please keep these podcasts going.

      Dear God, I lift up Tara to you. Pour energy, comfort, peace and strength into her Lord. You are soooo incredibly proud of how well she stewards what you give her. Encourage her in her work and her personal/daily life. I pray that mentors will rise up around her that can supply a helping hand, a listening ear and someone to pour life into her. I also pray that she may have pockets of time to truly rest. To take a nap (sleep is wondrous!!), postpone a project to take a walk instead, or have an intimate quiet time with you. Whatever it is, guide her in it Lord. I pray that you will lift her out of this funk, that the confusion and unrest will lift from her soul. If that has anything to do with the enemy I pray against him and bind him in the name of Jesus. He is not welcome here! I pray that everything he took away will be restored to Tara. In Jesus’ name, Amen💛

    Thank you for sharing, guys! You do a great job of incorporating listeners into what each of you has to share. One question I have is as a working mother how can we minister to not only our children/family, but to others? Often, my husband and I come home at 5pm on Friday after having both worked a typical 40-hr work week. We find ourselves exhausted physically and mentally. Because we also want our children to know that our bodies are temples and physical health is important, we practice self-care by going to the gym for an hour most nights (never on the weekends, btw, this is definitely self-care as I hate the gym lol). We have small group every two weeks, church Sunday mornings, etc. Each family as routines, but in a household where both parents work outside of the home, how can the hubs and myself minister to our children or others when we feel our time at home is so limited as is?

    • @forthejoyfit

      Hmmm...I’m not Jeff or Alyssa but my first instinct is maybe sharing more about your family on social media and showing what it means to raise up godly children! I think Husband/wife relationship and then children/parent relationships can be rly complex and complicated! So sharing maybe some routines you do, how you discipline, what helps you keep sane Hahha, etc. I know that may take more time than you’d like, but you could definitely start small! I know I myself would love to learn more about how to raise a godly family. Just an idea:)

    This is a really important concept. Thank you for going deep into this. I am glad you expounded at the end why living in Bora Bora isn't a healthy thing for Christians. Some introvert Christians, including myself find this really appealing. Your talk has given me a lot to chew on, because I need to force myself to do things that are hard, but are really self-care, like church. I feel I have permission now too, to find ministry that is more suited to me, that is is okay I don't go to 4 Bible studies a week.

    Definitely more of an Instagram person haha. And thank you for having a discussion about self care! I honestly struggle with the idea of what is and isnt godly when dealing with self care and saying no. Because biblically I know we are to put others first, but at the same time we need to take care of ourselves. 🙂

    • @forthejoyfit
      @forthejoyfit 6 років тому +1

      Emily Hawkins
      Same! One thought that has helped me is that if I think helping myself first will allow me to help others BETTER I’ll do it. If taking a nap before going to bible study would help me be a more kind person, then that’s what I’ll do! But I think there’s a point where it becomes too much and it prevents you from helping others bc you end up just thinking about yourself. Does that make sense?

    The only other comment I would make is that escapism isn't only because people don't WANT to work - I think work in the west has become so stressful or results-driven that people are walking around like zombies. I think that 20mins numbness on the phone is because people's brains are overloaded and the stress shortcircuits the brain

  • @MCLegoboy
    @MCLegoboy 6 років тому +2

    I'm going to blow your mind here Jeff, but even LEGO is not the plural. The name is actually an adjective. It needs to be followed up with something. LEGO bricks, LEGO sets, LEGO creations, even the company does not call themselves by LEGO, it's The LEGO Group. But at the end of the day, so long as you don't say legos, there is more peace in the world. Even designers and people that are in the high up positions that run the company have just said LEGO before, but you can tell when people are really serious about it because they will make sure that no matter how they speak, whether it's audibly or in text form, they will make sure they use LEGO as an adjective. And if we really want to get uppity about it, the first time it is used in text form also needs to have the little registered symbol, that R with the circle around it. It gets pretty intense. I just try to remember that it is always in caps, but I didn't know that before typing out my name for the Internet forever ago and it's just been part of my brand for the longest time, so whatever. But any other time, all caps all the time, followed with nouns, maybe a registered symbol depending on how formal the situation is, I'd probably be using my real name if I were going that far though.

    I am Gali, in the year 1980 I lost all my hopes, I became a thief and club dancer. At that time I heard about Christ, the Lord spoke with me though the Scripture.
    JOHN 14:6 “I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER BUT BY ME.”
    I surrendered my life to Lord Jesus and confessed that He is the only Lord and died for my sins to deliver me from all my sins (Karma). When I totally surrendered my life to the Lord He has delivered me from evil spirits, which suffered me about 6 years. I became a new person in Christ. I love Bible so much and started memorizing the scriptures.

    By the grace of God I have memorized Five Thousand (5,000) Verses from the Holy Bible. Every week I also remember all the verses. Morning time I remember about 1500 verses for praise, worship and prayer. (Including 100 Psalms). This practice helps me to grow strong in the Lord and also to help others for the glory of the Lord. John 14:6 is my favorite verse; I preach this word to many unsaved people that they may find the peace in Jesus Christ because He is the Lord of all.

    I am Gali, in the year 1980 I lost all my hopes, I became a thief and club dancer. At that time I heard about Christ, the Lord spoke with me though the Scripture.
