Saw them twice in '88, Maritime theatre in SF and the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, those brothers SHOT IT UP, they turned that horn section LOOSE on us and they didn't miss a SINGLE NOTE, they were on 🔥! I bought "live and direct" on a whim, then got hold of "New Chapter" and was HOOKED! "Ways of the Lord" and "Zion", I sing those ALL the TIME, I haven't been the same since! They're some GOOD cats too, they'll chop it with you, NOT ego driven at ALL, they're REAL people, just like the rest of us. Tony Gad can TEAR UP a bass with the BEST of them! Black Uhurus "The Dub Factor" is SICK but, "A New Chapter of Dub" is NOTHING to play with and Mikey Dread (God rest him) produced many of their early albums and I'm sure, like everyone else, they miss him! 😔👍
Reminds of the time when Aswad came to play in Zimbabwe in 1982, too. The cheaper and weaker PA system provided by the promoters would not stop the brethren for mashing up the place. Hours after the show some girls in the neighbourhood could still be heard singing . . . . Three babylon try to make I 'n' I run . . . .
I was 11 at the time so missed out. I was taken by my family though to watch Misty in Roots at Sports center near showgrounds and that was epic. Gregory Isaacs at Rufaro was underwhelming. "Oh Jah" for me is the hardest tune from them.
Greatest Live Reggae Band Ever
