has anyone ever seen wild ferns that gently wave to and fro with no wind but stop when humans are near? I saw them in the mountains of central Pennsylvania, Zone 5B I was backpacking in the Susquehannock Forest. There was a hillside, shaded by large second growth trees (don't know the species, they were hardwoods). The understory was a monoculture of knee high ferns. The air was completely calm, no wind at all. The ferns were oscillating; they were sort of rotating around the axis of the stem, clockwise then counterclockwise, gently, continuously. About 3/4 of a second to complete a cycle and return to the original position. Almost like the cliche of the 'Royal Wave' made by rotating the human wrist. They stopped when we came near. The area of ferns was maybe 3 -5 football fields. The entire hillside of ferns was moving when we came on them, but they stopped when we came near. We were surrounded by an island of stationary ferns about 50' in diameter. This island of stopped ferns moved as we moved across the hillside. Ferns stopped moving as we approached. After we passed they resumed moving. It was very odd and uncanny. What ferns are those? How do they move as if they have muscles? Why do they move and why do they stop?
Dear ! The most beautiful fern is yet to b shown . With a slightly thicker leaves and is close to the one you exhibited in last . The weight of foliage is heavier too. You certainly know that one
My fern is more uptright but as it grows out, it flops a bit. It lives out on my covered patio and seems to be bigger and greener in colder months. It’s dryer and more sparse looking in summer. We are in zone 9. Maybe a Kimberly?
Anna, nice quick video. I have two questions about the Kimberly Queen fern. One. Can you separate them for replanting to start new plants? Two. Will they winter over outdoors in zone six? If I mulch them well and keep them moist Will they make it through the winter where temperatures drop below, 20°? Thank you.
I have ferns that has staid out side all summer should I bring them or can I leave them outside these are huge and they can take the full sun please let me know
Thank you for video and After watching it now I just knew I got the wrong fern! I want to get fern that I can locate it inside( my dining room) so I went to Annas flower 3 days ago I got Kimberly queen fern as I like how it look instead of Boston fern so now is its gonna be okay to sit inside in my dining room in shade zone and not get the sun at all? Thank you
