Can you believe that we are only hours away from WWE Backlash 2024? Honestly, despite that there is very little buzz around the show. Part of it is the predictability of the matches...feel Dr. Chris Featherstone and Vince Russo. The two panelists on Sportskeeda Wrestling's hit show 'Writing with Russo' discuss why WWE is putting on such a lackluster show after all the buzz around WrestleMania. What happened to having no title matches for a chance for a championship opportunity
I recently watched Latino Heat interrupt the Rock and challenge him for a non title match which he accepted on the same show
They could’ve put the belt and I mean Seth championship on LA night. They should’ve drafted him to raw. Let him be a heal and still have support from the crowd like he always has. He could’ve played a treaner
They ruined him too. He could’ve been something special. I don’t care if he was like the rock or like stone cold who cares he was worth more than they gave him my opinion though.

Too damn predictable PPV, but international audience will mark out to anything, coz their country hasn't seen live events which are rare and US crowd is dead and bored when it comes to reaction. Next worthy PPV is SummerSlam when Roman's back . King and Queen of the ring gonna be the drizzling 💩 but will be the international success.
Yeah they literally could have had Cody vs a broomstick and the event would of sold out because it's their First PPV/PLE in France so the fans are just excited they get to see a big WWE event in there country. So the show is very half hearted and predictable. Only thing I'm looking forward to is the hopefully the debut of Jacob Fatu but everything else is meh
International audience care more about "bangers" so yeah they will mark out big time.

@@allenshadrick22 trust me I know international crowds have so much fun. I have seen how crazy Puerto Rico goes for Baseball like they did on Backlash 2023. I watch the champions league and the EPL and have seen how fantastic the crowds go for futbol games at Great Britain and France so the crowds really go crazy for WWE too. Hell I think they will also go crazy at the Bash Berlin. I just think that WWE needs to take a route where that translates to the USA crowd too. You want an example? Iyo Sky was super over at Puerto Rico in Backlash but she is not as over in USA. WWE needs to find a way where it translates on the USA where all the money is. AEW had a great crowd at Wembley but it didn't translated on the USA crowd where they got a lot of trouble selling 3k tickets for a dynamite on the USA after Wembley. I think WWE is capable of doing it but they need to find a way.
That crowd was the cringiest of cringe. Embarrassing.

It’s absolutely ridiculous in 2024 expecting people to watch a 3 hour show every week with all the other option out there today and the short attention spans
In regards to Netflix, it's on USA Network right now which is a cable channel. So people are paying for it right now. More people are dropping cable and subscribing to Netflix, anyway. Also, Smackdown is on Fox but it used to be on USA and I believe the SyFy channel before that, both cable channels. I'm more displeased that you have to pay Peacock to watch the PPV's. Those were included in WWE Network which made that worth it for awhile. Hulu isn't bad to watch both Smackdown and Raw after the fact and Hulu has some good other shows and movies, but this is the way it is now. They're not going back to everything on network television ever again. Plus, when they did that way back you had to pay for each PPV. I never watched any PPVs because I couldn't justify paying that every month basically.

Pretty dull ppv tbh. But it will sell out and do well because there in another country the first time having ppv show in france so the fans there will turn up just for the experience of going to a WWE PPV show regardless of the matches that have been booked.
Only thing i really care about on this show is hopefully we get the Debut of Jacob Fatu but apart from that for me its a missable event. Wake me up when its Summerslam.

We pay for Raw and smackdown here in The uk and starting from 2025 we get everything from Raw and smackdown NXT and the ppvs on netflix in the uk

Backlash was a awesome show with may be one of the best crowds in history but as usual Russo and his marks are stuck in the Stone Age

Raw was never free. You had to pay for cable and get USA Network. Smack down was free on UPN since that was on regular TV. And maybe if AJ vs Damion is more creíble to believe he can dethrone Damion. But before AJ leaves I hope he gets a world title run. He deserves that.
Raw has never been free in the history of forever. SmackDown was and won’t be with USA.

This is one of the issues with the WWE, either Raw has too many tag teams, there are more heels than there are baby-faces, and Smackdown is more balanced than Raw is so, the Damian Priest vs Jey Uso match will suk.

Do you 2 realize there was a draft coming up and they booked this as basically a house show to get the foreign money. Of course it's predictable because they weren't going to make any major changes with the draft coming up(although the draft was a waste of everyone's time) . You all act like this is AEW, ripping people off for 49.99 to watch this shit when you can watch it for FREE with a new subscription,as long as you cancel it before 30 days. You're right on one thing. Raw is bereft of main event level babyfaces. Smackdown has plenty of them and for some reason none of them were moved to Raw(Knight, Owens, Orton,Lashley to name a few). I'm so happy I grew up before social media and was able to just watch and enjoy wrestling. This video was made just for a stupid "hot take" and views.

Podcasters have fans too concerned with the business side. Make the show watchable first again
People care about the ratings because it's proof that what these companies are putting out on TV is not good enough to draw the viewers in each week. We know that there are at least 2.5m - 3m in the viewer pool but RAW is literally doing half of that. It ties into what you're saying - entertain the viewer. Whenever there is a reason to watch then that number gets higher, so give the viewer a reason to watch every week, not just once every 3-6 months.
There are no shock turns anymore, no shock world title changes on weekly tv anymore, no cliffhangers to close out the shows anymore and they can barely even be bothered to do angles outside of the arena. They're just televised house shows.

@@snellsman The difference with wrestling is that they now base their product on statistics. Whoever gets the most interactions on twitter gets the tv time and the push (which is wrong). Again, the reason fans care about and talk about the ratings is because it is the only measurement they have to throw at these companies, telling them they have to do better. The shows they're putting on are driving viewers away. This is why Russo was successful in his career, because he studied the minute-by-minute ratings whereas the other bookers clearly don't.
We have seen in the past for example when RAW hit the all-time record low viewership, the McMahons appeared on TV and cut that promo saying things had to change. That's why the ratings matter. Without them we all know WWE and AEW will pat themselves on the back and say how good the shows were that week.

WWE isn’t a monopoly but they know their fans aren’t going anywhere because they know their fans aren’t professional wrestling fans. WWE fans by and large associate everything in wrestling with WWE, and don’t bother to watch TNA, NWA, and especially not AEW. So no matter how mediocre WWE has become over the last few decades, the fans will never consider an alternative.
