    Well, and maybe some not-so Hidden ones too.
    Hope you enjoy, if you like make sure to support by commenting how badly I misspronounce the Roman Empire enemies because man, that was confusing.

    Thank you for not excluding FFXI. It has enough references to fill a whole video of its own, but too many people don't consider it a mainline entry, when now more than ever it's completely accessible for solo play thanks to Trusts.

      Heck yeah, thanks man! I am guilty of that mistake myself in previous videos or planning for them, but the more familiar I am with it the more comfortable I am with including it with the rest. While I'm not that familiar with it, I knew that as an MMO it will be huge in that sense, so I started checking first the notorious monsters and boss fights, so I went with this one more recognizable 😌

      So many of the BCNM and KSNM are the same. For example, charming trio has leeches that have names similar to the Halliwell sisters from charmed.
      If you look at the old ffxiclopedia it has all of the references inside of them

  • @Vayne_Solidor

    Very interesting topic. Absolutely deserves a like. Hope I'll remember those I didn't know before.
    For me, XIII having Roman name references for optional fights is a great successor to the Ivalice Espers (mostly optional) referencing previous final bosses.
    Oh and I think at 24:50, you meant Long Gui and not Adamantoise.
    I hope you include Type-0 too next time, if you include any spinoff 😉

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  18 днів тому +1

      Yeah I guess it's rude from my part to call them turtles the same lmao.
      I always want to include Type-0, but I force myself to make one exception to the self imposed rules because otherwise I will be making everything longer than I planned to 😅

    I'm very glad youtube showed me this channel. Thanks for sharing your love of Final Fantasy through these videos. I wasn't born during most of these releases, but I'm playing through the series now (currently on FFVII) and there's just so much great content on this site to follow along with.

      Hey! thank you very much for those words! That's my main goal after all.
      It's exciting you are going through them. I'm looking forward once you reach FF9 to see how many references it has to the previous ones; playing a marthon of my own and reaching that point was the main reason I wanted to showcase things like those, and now to do that but about as most games as possible
      (Also sorry if I say out spoilery stuff lmao, I don't think I've done in this video but if I did, oops)

    But in some versions FF1 replaced Link with Leto/Erdrick ie the DRAGON quest 1 main hero party member in the text of that Elven Village tombstone.
    Despite that Lord of the rings came out FIRST via the Peter Jackson movies in the Books it was Bilbo Baggens Frodo's Uncle that first used the UNDERHILL name like when NOT using his real name in front of the Smaug ( the Dragon) from the Hobbit book/movies.

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  18 днів тому +1

      That's really funny that some versions go back and forth with the Zelda-DQ choice.
      Oh that's really interesting! I'm not that deep into the LotR universe as I only knew the surface of it when they were out, so the true origin of some terms might elude me, so thank you for that! Kinda cute they used the same name

    • @thechugg4372
      @thechugg4372 14 днів тому

      Also using Underhill was already a text in Final Fantasy 1, so it's also a call back to that.

    What about the other SW references in 6? The Falcon being the fastest airship is a minor one, but the big one is hidden in the South Figaro escape sequence. If you steal an imperial trooper uniform after the Rosebud sequence [itself a Citizen Kane reference], if you reject all the prompts to take it off, and are still wearing the uniform when you untie Celes, her and Locke reenact the Luke/Leia "short for a stormtrooper" scene from A New Hope. The Ultima/Atma weapon being a lightsaber is also part of it.

    • @Lightman0359
      @Lightman0359 17 днів тому

      In a similar vein to the FF1 "Here Lies Erdrick" thing, 12 had an official Dragon Quest reference, as it was the first mainline game after the Squaresoft/Enix merger. Good old Golgamesh has the Sword of Kings/Erdrick's Sword. You even can steal it from him. the Wyrmhero's Blade Wyrm = Dragon, Hero = Warrior, a reference to the legal shenanigans over the US localization of DQ 1-4 [there was a board game in the states that held trademark over "Dragon Quest"]. It even looks like the Toriyama art of the Sword of Kings/Erdrick/Loto from DQ1-3.
      Also with a dethroned princess, a disgraced general, a fish out of water gutter rat from the desert, and a scruffy pirate with furry engineer, the cast of 12 [sans Penelo, she's just kinda there to give a 3rd girl] is a loose Star Wars reference [the Strahl again being one of the fastest ships that has a very familiar escape from a desert hangar scene cements the reference]

    • @Lightman0359
      @Lightman0359 17 днів тому

      Also Sabin's Aura bolt is a double reference, in addition to being a Haduken controller input, the animation is also the iconic Kamehameha from Dragon Ball. It even times out pretty well if you chant it out with him

    • @Lightman0359
      @Lightman0359 17 днів тому

      The sequels to 13 can also be viewed as homages to other video games, some Square-Enix, some not, all about time travel.
      The time travel shenanigans in XIII-2, with going back and forth between different time periods of the same couple locations, to affect a good future [along with the End of Time stuff] use elements of both Chrono Trigger [mainly in presentation and collecting friends from across the timeline]. The fix the future/past to save the present was the major gameplay loop in Dragon Quest 7
      Lightning Returns is Majora's Mask [you have a week to save the world and have to reset back to day 1 constantly] with a hint of Prince of Persia Sands of time [localized time puzzles]

    • @Lightman0359
      @Lightman0359 17 днів тому

      One more: at least in the english translations, there are repeated Star Trek and Star Wars references in the airship names: I already mentioned the fastest airship in most games the [Millennium] Falcon, but also, at least in FF4, you also get the hero ship of Trek, one more suited for exploration [it does have a deployable hovercraft/shuttlecraft, and is the flagship] the Enterprise is also in FF3 and can land on water.
      FF3 also has the Submersible airship Nautilus, which is a reference to 20.000 Leagues Under the Sea
      Enterprise and Nautilus are also famous US naval vessels. The Star Treh Enterprise is named after the Aircraft Carrier and the Submarine line was named after Jules Verne's hero ship.

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  17 днів тому

      Yup, those remarks about FF6 I totally agree with. While I was making my choice was either to mention many star wars in one, or to go with my bias of fighting games (the kame hame ha is totally an inspiration too, but I focus on one to not start mentioning more).
      The FF12 one about DQ is pretty cool! Didn't know about it. I knew the joke that FF12 is basically THE star wars of Final Fantasy so I tried to avoid mentioning it to pick another one different tho 🤣
      Thank you for your inputs! there are some I didn't know and others I wasn't sure as I'm no knowledgable about SW, and the names of the Airships in older games because I feel there's something but I couldn't confirm if it was explicitly that

    I think an interesting video could be to look at every reference to the original Final Fantasy battle theme's baseline throughout the series.
    AFAIK it shows up in every game though 9 in some form, even if you might not notice it. For example, the first of the Sephiroth fight "Birth of a God" which features the baseline briefly in the transition from its intro to its main riff.

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  17 днів тому

      Yeah, honestly I've been trying to brainstorm an idea that involves Music specifically (and all the games, not just a focus on one). I'm not a musician at all so I need to properly either research and understand or something that can be from a user/listener perspective without knowledge, that cover that.
      I think you are right, music is one thing that connect the games, and I feel like something can be done to highlight it aside from the very technical aspect, I'd love to figure out something (btw, "Birth of a God"? Banger)

  • @Meuhldor

    You have a music from Pyotr Tchaikovsky too into Final Fantasy 2. The track named "temptation of the princess" is clearly from the swan lake too.

      Yeah! I remember having a "wait a minute..?" moment. And later FF5 went ham and has like 5 different composers as Bartz learn to play the piano.
      I had to pick David Bowie tho

    But where do they specifically refer to Baku as Leer?

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  17 днів тому

      Thank you!
      During the first play at the start of the game, the character that Baku play as is called "King Leo", I don't know if I mentioned it but I put footage of the japanese version which called them straight up "レア王" (King Lear, レア= "Lear" + 王, kanji for "King"). My bad if I didn't say it and only show editing the screen lmao

    I think another reference is found in the late game of FF9’s story. Zidane is young man with a monkey tail adopted by a much older man, his limit break has him transform and has his hair change color, he is from another planet where all the inhabitants have monkey tails, and he was created to be an “Angel of destruction” by Garland. This has several parallels to the origins of Goku from the anime and manga Dragon Ball. When the story reaches the Saiyan Saga, it is revealed that Goku had originally been sent to Earth to conquer it and that he hails from a planet of warrior conquerors known as the Saiyans, all of which have monkey tails and the potential to transform into Super Saiyans (which changes the color of their hair). Also, both Zidane and Goku have to fight their evil brothers shortly after this revelation, Kuja and Raditz respectively.

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  16 днів тому +1

      I'm sure that's the case, too. I know the monkey alien aspect was very reminiscing, but I never connected it with Kuja and Raditz in particular so that's an interesting point to add, that's funny. I guess they are so different I didn't make the connection 😂

  • @Pichu-82

    It may be worth mentioning that the Underhill reference in FF16 may actually refer to FF1. The name of the caravan master you purchase the Bottle from is Underhill. That Underhill could also be an LotR reference

    • @DroWarriorOfLight
      @DroWarriorOfLight  17 днів тому +1

      Honestly, yeah, that could easily be the case too, they love to do both things. I wouldn't be surprised. In fact, a similar thing happened to me when searching the FF9 stuff, I was like "ok let's see if the characters of I want to be your Canary are ALL Shakespeare" and one of them is Cornelia which yeah, could be from his works, but at the same time Cornelia is such a FF1 name that it might as well be both things at the same time like what you mentioned here. It's funny how fitting is

    • @Pichu-82
      @Pichu-82 17 днів тому

      @@DroWarriorOfLight - FF9 is full of references to FF1-8. I used to test friends on it, with what the three biggest references to 1, 2, and 3 were. Those were, respectively: Gulugu Volcano (area and music), the story Ramuh has Garnet tell to him before he becomes her Eidolon, and the airship Invincible.
      The airship even shares the traits of FF3's Invincible, in that you can explore the interior of the ship (FF9's lacks shops, however), it's the only airship able to fly over mountains, and you can disembark it over any walkable terrain.
      There's also a notable point where Zidane references 7 and 8 in the same line while examining the weapon shop in Lindblum.

      @@Pichu-82 Playing FF9 in my marathon run back then was the BIG main inspiration to start creating videos on UA-cam about it (which is the thumbnail that I put right at the start of this video) noticing it most things made me happy and I loved that the series was doing that in its games, so I needed to highlight it.
      If you allow me: I personally think the biggest FF3 reference in FF9 is Doga and Unei objects that trigger their musical theme elsewhere, it's like specifically hidden and there's even music, so cool

    That FFX reference was not what i thought was going to be listed.
    The most blatant pop culture reference especially for the year it released, was after Seymour proposed to Yuna and they talk about going to Macalania temple and Tidus says "they were going to Macarena temple" and he gets corrected and he utters "aye!" A reference to both the Macarena song and the "aye" in the chorus... That song was everywhere in the early 2000s 🙈😅
