Wow, GENIUS! I might try making one using a cool looking giant old book from a thrift shop or someone could make a smaller holder from a small, cool looking book for mail, etc, could be a nice gift! How to do the accordion folded side is key. I've also wanted to make some of those accordion "red rope" expanding file holders because they are crazy expensive. I could make them out of the zillion green hanging outer folders I have.

Nice idea! I made magazine holder about week ago, but this is something that I really need to try. Tho first I need to check where I could put it, I don't have much space for most diy that I try but I'm used to it :D

You can also use tuck tape to cover up the cardboard.
