Great video and comparison Brad! I love the increased SD card capacity and the ability to use this one with a NAS. Those "pro" features make an already great camera even better!
Another great video, Brad - thanks! When I first heard of Aqara, I was hesitant as a lot of their devices seem to compete with Eve and Eve have been quick to move to Thead. That said, I was looking for an inside HKSV camera and the G3 did everything plus have me a hub and an IR blaster. Whereas I would not replace the G3 with the G2H Pro, that’s a testament to the great design of the G3 hub. Moreover, when my family takes to naming a piece of technology, it’s like they’ve welcomed it to the family. For example, our iRobot vacuum is called Swifty (because it’s slow and doesn’t require the maid to use our Swiffer products in the floors as much), our Ecobee is Sparky (long story, but it kept blowing fuses when we first set it up), and the G3 is Marshmallow Man because of the ears and color. We can’t just replace a member of the family!
Thanks Dr. Cole! I agree you clearly can’t replace a family member! We have also named a couple of devices, I’m testing a Robot vacuum now. You’ll all have to stay tuned to find out it’s name!! 🤣
Great video. I will probably not be getting the G2H Pro camera as I have everything I want covered, covered. However, if I was in the market for a new indoor camera, the G2H Pro would be at the top of my list. I really like the G3 camera option that when you stop recording, the lens rotates down and you get the cool sleeping eyes logo showing the camera is not recording. Question: Does the G2H Pro also have the Lens Correction feature like the G2H Camera. I did notice that in my G3 camera, that option wasn't there. Currently, I have two M1S hubs, one M2 hub, one G3 camera, and 5 G2H cameras. I am currently moving the child devices to the closet hub so they will have either Excellent or Good signal strength. I have one sensor under my dishwasher that has a Poor signal and it EATS batteries. I'll be moving that one to under the Kitchen sink and using a new Thread version Eve Water Guard for the dishwasher, that should arrive today. Thanks again for all of the great content.
Thanks for the great video! I bought an Aqara G2H Pro camera based on your recommendation and am very happy with it. However, I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering please: 1. Is there a way to automatically arm and disarm the camera when leaving the house? I do have a door Aqara sensor as well. 2. I created a password for live viewing the camera. Does this only work for the device I set it up with or the password will be asked from any device that tries to access the camera? 3. I’m using an SD card inserted in the bottom of the camera. Usually, the live view shows a solid dark blue for the period in which the camera is on. But sometimes the solid blue line changes to a series of vertical bars. What does this mean? Thank you,
Somewhere along the line I picked up the idea that the Aqara G2H Pro would include thread support when it arrived. Apparently that was completely in my imagination!
Good video. I'm wondering whether the G2H Pro is worth it if all I want is a Homekit Secure Video camera. I don't care about the hub, pan and title, etc.
I checked newegg, and they have the original G2H and the G2H Pro selling at the same price (!). But I'd also say that the higher-resolution of the camera on the G3 seems interesting to me, and the fact that it connects to the 5.0GHz WiFi band.
Maybe someone here can help me. I have a Non pro G2H. I added it in both HomeKit and Aqara, I found however that even when the camera was off in HomeKit, it was still viewable in the Aqara app. I ultimately removed it from the Aqara app so that it only works with HomeKit now. Did I miss a setting? Is this working as intended? Are the other Aqara cameras the same way? Thanks!
Hey Eric! Thanks for watching. You may have only been disabling HomeKit Secure video. Try this… sign out of the Aqara app and then instead of logging back in normally, click Homekit mode at the bottom of the login screen. Some features are limited but this should help with privacy. It should allow basic features, firmware updates and connecting/binding devices. Let me know if this helps!
Purchasing g2h pro and accessories, I want to add the camera and the accessories to my HomeKit, so do I just set up by HomeKit or Aqaba app. In a previous video you talked about problems you ran into.
Hi Tom, I recommend creating an account on the Aqara app, then brining it into HomeKit. Some prefer to use "HomeKit mode" which means no need to create an Aqara account, though you're limited with what you can do. Aqara has really grown on me, I think you will be pleased!
@@tommacdougall Not really. Generally speaking they work like any other HomeKit accessory, they just need to be bound to the Hub fist. Most automations can simply be done in the Home app (or Eve, Controller, Home +), but there are more options in the Aqara app such as a delay/wait option. This only works within Aqara accessories, but can be useful.
Hello I was hoping you could help me, I bought a Mi Temperature and Humidity Monitor 2. For now I would like to connect it to my pc through a wifi/bluetooth hub so I can monitor it remotely. Do I need a specific hub from Xiaomi or can I use Aqara or non brand that support zigbee protocol. How do I know which one is compatible?
HiBrad, Hoping you can help, set up the camera everything went well camera wise, but I noticed in HomeKit I have 2 accessories motion sensor and security sensor that have "no response" , I have no idea how to correct the situation. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Tom - Glad the Camera has been setup and is working. I assume the motion sensors are Aqara, is that right? Is the security sensor an Aqara Door and Window Sensor? If you check the Aqara app, can you see your sensor? If you go to "Profile", "HomeKit", "HomeKit Devices" you should be able to see your Camera Hub, and the sensors would be listed as Sub Devices. If you don't see them, try re-adding. If you do see them, you may want to reset the sensors, then re-add them to the hub. As long as the Hub has been bound to HomeKit, any sub-devices should be in HomeKit as well (you probably know this, but child devices will always show in the room where you have your Hub by default, but you can easily move it to the correct room after). Hope this helps.
@@TheBradLloyd Hi Brad, Have not set up any sensors yet just the camera. Everything appears normal in the Aqara app but when I go to the HomeKit app the camera is at the bottom and appears normal, then at the top of the page it states 2 accessories "no response", when I double click it, it takes me to the camera page in HomeKit. On this page you can change the name of the camera, set automations, notifications, recording options, etc. Under the name of camera is a box with 3 items Room, Accessories, Include in Favorites, when you click on Accessories arrow two icons appear with "no response". This is where I get lost. I've tried looking in both apps for a setting I might have missed and done a complete reset with no change. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
@@tommacdougall Hi Tom, I know what you are referring to now, thank you. Though, unfortunately, I'm not sure why you are having that issue. The G2H exposes a motion sensor and security system to HomeKit (you would have been asked to confirm this when you set it up in the HomeApp). My best advise would be to update the firmware in the Aqara app, remove from your home, do a factory reset, and try adding it again. If that doesn't work you may want need to contact Aqara for support. If I think of anything else I will let you know. I've never had this issue personally.
If a product doesn’t have thread then I won’t buy it. So far I am supporting Eve because of this. It’s good to see that so more more thread products are coming along!

I like how the G3 advertises the hand signal feature. Super cool stuff
Agree. I don't use it often, but it is super cool!

Yes, unfortunately not this time....
Great video Brad, quick question. Even though these cameras are hubs, can I add them to the E1 hub as “child devices”
Cheers
Thanks!! Good question, You cannot add the G2H pro hub to another hub as a child device. Not sure what the benefit would be. Hope this helps.
Great video music in background annoying. My opinion
Hi Tony, I missed the mark on the music. Thanks for the constructive feedback. I will be more mindful next time!

Hi Garance, it just depends on what you are looking for - but I agree the G3 is worth the price!
I’m confused, if I buy the G2H pro, do I need to by an additional hub or am I good with apple HomePod?
Can this connect directly to HomeKit? Or do you need to connect it to the aqara app first?

Wait which model is newer the g3 or the g2h pro?
The G2H is the newer model, but less functionality than the G3.
If a product doesn’t have thread then I won’t buy it. So far I am supporting Eve because of this. It’s good to see that so more more thread products are coming along!
I agree. I'm a big supported of Eve as well. Aqara will have Thread sensors later this summer!
Anyone who has experience from using these outdoors?
