Fun to come back here just as the City Jungle sets released, featuring Johnny Thunder. It's funny, I was hoping for that in 2017's City Jungle, which had a good amount of exploration. Whereas the modern Jungle Exploration....is less so. The focus is so much more on the vehicles than the terrain or treasures, or in this case, wildlife studying. It's kind of like the Animal Rescue we saw a few years ago but with less peril. And hey, shoutout to Friends taking on Jungle before 2017 CITY did. They had animal rescuing sure, but they also offered a glimpse of exploration. Jungle Falls is one of my favorite Friends sets and I'm glad I own at least this one from the Jungle line. A clever building technique for the gear function makes the model spring ro life while offering a reward of treasure and a small cave to explore.
Some of the first Lego toys I ever got were Pirates and Adventurers. Seeing Johny in that Lego Movie set warms my heart a lot. I didn't know they brought him back in that.
looking back, orient expedition were some of the best designs lego ever made. The dinosaur one were also really cool. They were the perfect amount of storyline to get your imagination going, but not so much that you couldn't make up your own stories when playing. The theme also just had incredible variety while still maintaining a common theme. It would be really cool if they revived this theme again, but with more detailed builds.
Johnny Thunder, now that is a blast from the past. I loved the Adventures line. One of the few sets that really sparked my imagination as a kid. My other favorite line was that deep-sea set that had the large stingray sub. I had the good guys from that set that had the large underwater base and a decently sized submarine. There was another outer-space+robot theme that I really liked as well. It came out long before Ice Planet and Mars Mission.
Lol 7:03 the last picture on second line is from my MOC Johnny Thunder video here on YT... Nice video by the way, now I'm super nostalgic and sad that Johnny Thunder is dead theme for lego company.
Johnny Thunder basically did everything when I was a kid, he, his comrades, and enemies managed to invade every Lego theme I played with in some way. I guess he ended up being the Gary Stu stand in character to vicariously live adventure for me when I was playing all those years ago.
Haha, listening to the LRW playlist when this came up while building my Adventurers/Dino mashup MOC. It is taking place 90 years after Johnny first found the island, and the vehicles and setting has been modded to be in vet service instead of keeping them from the city. Everything is Dino inspired except the Dinos and details that are from Dino Island. Even the cage from "5914 SAM SINISTER AND THE BABY T REX" is slightly modded to fit in the world.
Dude I love your videos. I've only recently discovered them and been putting them on speaker when I'm cooking in my own house. I'm only 21 at the moment and watching these videos is making me very nostalgic again. Faintedly regaining memories of which sets I had based on certain shapes, minifigs or even coverart I had. Thanks dude!
Never had any of these sets and I'm a little too young to remember more than one of the flash games, but this theme looks fun. I'd love to get that old car with classic Johnny Thunder minifig.
I actually had the grave of anubis, as a kid, and it included a cassette, with a story of Johnny Thunder on it. I actually found the story again here on youtube. They actually did a pretty god job with the story and the voice cast. Also this is one of the themes that makes me wish that Lego sometimes would step away a litte from franchises and do some more own stuff again (Specially with star wars. They had so many wonderfull space/alien themes, but now everything is just star wars....). PS: The first lego racers game was awesome, me and my brother still play it at times. XD (one of the very view old pc games, that surprisingly still works on modern pcs)
While probably not too significant, we did just get a new Johnny Thunder figure in Lego CMF series 19. Fron and back printing, leg printing with duel molded legs. It's nice to see him again. He's taken up residence over in the Ninjago City portion of my city. It just seems appropriate.
That's a great addition, I love that figure version too adapting him well to modern minifigure designs. There's a minifigure in the City Safari Off-Roader set 60267 that looks awfully alot like Pippin Reed/Gail Storm, all the more reason to buy that set. The set shows the tree costumed guy with the camera but we all know who it belongs to :)
One weirdly specific memory I have about the adventure theme's last year was this...sort of board game element that came into play with it? I dont remember if it was just part of each major land mark set or not, but I remembee that the Ice location with the toppling bridge had extra parts to it that let you make a game out of it, and you could expand it further with the other sets. I think each mini figure was supposed to have their own ability or stats, or that you had to pick up the included weapons on "the board" while you were trying to collect stuff. It's been so long that I do not remember the details well at all, and I never got to explore the idea beyond the one set
I just completed the collection a few days ago, the Sphinx was the last to pickup but I still have to find the Anubis guards. Very cool in their own way.
Maniac4Bricks the Sphinx was the first set i got, Laos I looked up the line and realized that I didn’t get the poly bags but that was it. The Anubis guards are a must have if you like the line (did you get the pyramid and they didn’t come with?)
@@Radiosilenced Yes, I got the pyramid without the guards. I haven't picked up the polybags yet but they look simple enough that I could build them. I go back and forth if they count as completing the collection.
When I was a kid I wanted these sets and the Pharos Quest sets so badly. But my mom liked Harry Potter so that's what I got instead. I got one little mini pack of these guys once and they were my favorite.
It's not that, it's just the people going "Do this, do this, do this," and it's like "Yeah! I'll get to it when I get to it! I'm not a puppet on strings."
I remember having an interest in this one, but not collecting the sets. I think I had a couple of them, a plane and that tracked car looking thing. I definitely remember thinking the last wave looked really cool, but I didn't get any of them.
I saw the pharos quest lego commercials as a kid. Despite it being over shadowed by its predecessor jonny thunder I still think it was a cool line. The cobra statue and pyramid sets we’re my favorite.
The sort of latest appearance I saw Johnny Thunder in was Lego Fortnite, there was a picture of him showing a list of quest to complete in game but I didn’t see him anywhere when I played it, yet.
I always liked this series, The dinosaurs and Mummies were my favorite. Oriental exploration and the jungle sub theme were fine too even if the big figs look like someone at the lego group did LSD....
Hm I think I had a couple of those from the Amazon theme, I definitely had the one at 2:56. Back then the skeleton arms were unique to them and could move in any direction instead of using battle droid arms.
I used to play with Johnny Thunder all the time! Instead of using the existing "storylines" from the sets, I'd make up my own temple/tomb/etc setups and have him adventure through them looking for things like ancient mystical swords or whatever. One of the recent lego blindbags has an unnamed explorer character who looks suspiciously like him. Maybe I should keep an eye out for that one.
Was at a antique store store not to long an found a ziplock bag full of Lego Minifigs, 2 of the characters in it was Johnny Thunder one having a hook hand an different hat on it an the other one as is with the right hat on. Have been thinking of setting some bricks up as some adventures for him, plus having him with some of the Lego City exploration team an Pharaoh's Quest team maybe.
Actually no Jake Raines isn't related to Johnny. Aside from them both having a name beginning with J and a name having to do with weather. There's no relation between them. Josh Thunder from Dino 2012 however IS related to Johnny.
I found a huge trash bag in my Grandma's attic, and to my surprise it was full a lot of Lego pieces. Inside of the bag I found a Johnny Thunder figure. I was happy. The end.
I kind of wish they'd bring this theme back someday, maybe where Johnny Thunder and the rest of the Adventurers gang mentor an all-new team of explorers, set around the mid-40s or 50s, somewhere around that time period. That would be interesting.
The adventurer series was one of the best lego series there ever was.
I wish they brought it back for a special

When I was a kid I wanted these sets and the Pharos Quest sets so badly. But my mom liked Harry Potter so that's what I got instead. I got one little mini pack of these guys once and they were my favorite.
My favorite theme by far!! Hope it wins the 90s anniversary tournament!
Don't forget about Exo-Force for me okay? Alright cool lol
Oh lord, these kinds of comments stress me out.
I was just about to comment this haha...
:C
+Nick on planet Ripple You shouldn't get stressed out, you'll do a good job
It's not that, it's just the people going "Do this, do this, do this," and it's like "Yeah! I'll get to it when I get to it! I'm not a puppet on strings."
Nick on Planet Ripple wasn't implying you were nick. Chill
Now this was one theme I always wished I had, but I never even saw it on stores in my country.
Oh i remember i had a cassette with the egyptian theme wich cleverly connected all of the egyptian sets.
I loved it
It definitely needs a comeback.
I remember having an interest in this one, but not collecting the sets. I think I had a couple of them, a plane and that tracked car looking thing. I definitely remember thinking the last wave looked really cool, but I didn't get any of them.
Themes talked about in this video:
Adventurers- 1998-2003
Pharaoh's Quest- 2011
Dino Island and The Orient Edition Sets werd my childhood
I saw the pharos quest lego commercials as a kid. Despite it being over shadowed by its predecessor jonny thunder I still think it was a cool line. The cobra statue and pyramid sets we’re my favorite.
The sort of latest appearance I saw Johnny Thunder in was Lego Fortnite, there was a picture of him showing a list of quest to complete in game but I didn’t see him anywhere when I played it, yet.
One of my all time favorite themes... thanks for putting this together!
I think the Jungle line is really underrated. The sets were unique and sadly don't get enough attention.
I love the Adventures line the best.
best lego theme ever
Yay! Studios is my 3rd favorite lego theme!
Looking through the pictures like, need that one, need that one, need that one...
I always liked this series, The dinosaurs and Mummies were my favorite. Oriental exploration and the jungle sub theme were fine too
even if the big figs look like someone at the lego group did LSD....
Also I think that it's called stereotypical not racist
Lego adventurers, nostalgia)
i love these sets and always wanted some of the egyptian sets
Dino island!! I used to have almost all of those sets...
Hm I think I had a couple of those from the Amazon theme, I definitely had the one at 2:56. Back then the skeleton arms were unique to them and could move in any direction instead of using battle droid arms.
enjoyed this very much. looking forward to the next.
I think the two best big sets in my opinion was the Egypt theme Temple with the hieroglyphs and the Persian Temple
god this series is good
Was at a antique store store not to long an found a ziplock bag full of Lego Minifigs, 2 of the characters in it was Johnny Thunder one having a hook hand an different hat on it an the other one as is with the right hat on. Have been thinking of setting some bricks up as some adventures for him, plus having him with some of the Lego City exploration team an Pharaoh's Quest team maybe.
Pharaohs quest sets are go to for collecting, great sets
Absolutely!
Best line forever
Every Lego adventurer should have a companion that wears that one adventurer hat.
It's about time you made another episode
Isn't one of the new characters in lego dino supposed to be johnny thunder's descendant or something?
Yup. Josh Thunder.
The main character from pharaohs quest I believe is supposed to me related to Johnny
Actually no Jake Raines isn't related to Johnny. Aside from them both having a name beginning with J and a name having to do with weather. There's no relation between them. Josh Thunder from Dino 2012 however IS related to Johnny.
There's a UA-camr named Mustache Maniacs who made LEGO Adventurer stopmotion movies, and I still think they're really good
I found a huge trash bag in my Grandma's attic, and to my surprise it was full a lot of Lego pieces. Inside of the bag I found a Johnny Thunder figure. I was happy. The end.
great episode, keep up with the good work!
I kind of wish they'd bring this theme back someday, maybe where Johnny Thunder and the rest of the Adventurers gang mentor an all-new team of explorers, set around the mid-40s or 50s, somewhere around that time period. That would be interesting.
