- Hello and welcome to the 9th episode of the 4th season of Adventure Now!
We are still enjoying the summer in beautiful Iceland!
In this episode we celebrate Asha's birthday in Patreksfjörður on the west fjords of Iceland. We visit the local spa with a spectacular panoramic view of the fjord. Then we motor 120 nautical miles to Akranes, a town just a few miles north of the capital city of Iceland, Reykjavik, and Mark confesses that he is a motorholic. We see basking sharks along the way. To our delight, Akranes has some more geothermal pools to offer so we stay for a week to enjoy this beautiful and unassuming town.
Our friend Dani comes to see us in Akranes and takes us on a tour around the Golden Circle, which is a series of very impressive creations of Mother Nature - geysers, massive waterfall and a place where the two tectonic plates of Europe and America meet.
After Akranes we have a cracking sail to Reykjavik and we are very impressed with the Icelandic capital, but more about that in the next episode!
Filmed in July 2023 using a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000, DJI Pocket, a Rhode microphone, and edited with iMovie.

Happy Birthday, Asha. 🎂🍾🌈
Mark, I think you are living your own Shawshank Redemption. For you, your Shawshank was the corporate world which you are now a fugitive from and at large.
Happy birthday Asha
Thank you so much for your wishes 🙃 All the best to you! Asha & Mark
Happy belated Birthday wishes Asha. 42 the answer to the meaning of life and everything I’m sure Mark will agree. Great vid as usual. Enjoy

Hi Craig. Thank you so much. I will be honest and say that I do sometimes wonder how I might come across but I don’t see the point in being anything other than “from the heart”. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it. Cheers and see you soon! Asha says thank you for the birthday wishes 👍
Happy birthday Asha xx 🎉marks dry sence of humour is something to behold 😂
Thanks so much for your kind wishes! Indeed, there is no doubt of Mark's Britishness, but I'm kind of addicted to that now, so cannot go a day without a healthy dose of it 😉

@@AdventureNow always a pleasure Asha, despite Mark waxing lyrical but always thought provoking🙄🙄🙄😮💨😬
Marvelous Mark! Love it, totally clear... :))
Another great episode and what did we laugh about your funny comments! Fair winds and see you soon!
Another great episode, and I didn't know about sector lights. This is also the first episode where you go somewhere, I have been too. Only taken 4 years!
Hi Chris 🙃 I had about a 101 attempts at explaining the sector lights and then Mark took over, and made a meal of it too, it was just hilarious to watch 😂 glad it made sense in the end. Oh, awesome - what's the place where our paths have crossed in the non-linear reality?
@@AdventureNow I did some work in Reykjavik a few years ago and recognised the glass concert hall in this episode.
@@chrisdawson2119 That's a cool building and a cool city indeed!
your poetry is very reminiscent of the great works of William Topaz McGonagall... the videos are really good though.
Hello Jorg 🙃 Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words 🙏🏻
Emptying there sacks 😂😂😂😂
No less, no more 😂😂😂😂
@@AdventureNow 🤣🤣🤣
Happy birthday Asha. I like realising that I have less fu(£5 to give😂 and after a recent event I may get some winter sailing in-possibly bump into you if you’re out and about the west coast?
Thank you so much for your kind wishes, Kevin 🙃 and thank you so much for watching! Good to hear that you're also subscribing to this kind of freedom 😉We're wintering in Largs this year, currently on the Crinan Canal and slowly approaching our winter berth! Where will you be doing your winter sailing?
@@AdventureNow the north coast of Ireland and all being well across to the inner Hebrides and the Clyde area.
I am going to make it my mission to casually use the phrase "Tourism is the haemorrhoid hanging of the cheeks of truth" this week....:p
Love it Lee! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Hope you are well 👍👌😁
Hi there, your videos are improving...well done. I live on my 1986 Moody 47 and sail the west coast of Scotland. I have a technical question for you. I notice the upper 3 pulley block for the mainsheet that you have is attached to the boom via a single line. What is the reason for this distance between the pulley and the boom. The reason I ask is I am about to fit the same type of pulley on my own boat, as well as the same setup you have for the lower mainsheet pulley attached to the traveller. I am going to fit a hard bimini with drop down sides so need to get away from the original Moody setup on my boat which uses a centrally located standup pulley block which is immovable and would foul with the new bimini when running downwind. Just curious about the single line from your upper mainsheet pulley to the boom. Usually I see the upper block directly attached to the boom. Thanks in advance for your answer and I hope I bump into out there. This winter I am staying at Corpach marina. Cheer. Duncan
Hi Duncan. Apologies for the late reply. We used to have the top mainsheet block attached directly to the metal fitting on the boom but the metal on metal contact was elongating the hole! The strop that you see is dyneema and is simply the shortest duel loop splice that I could make. There isn't any other reason than that.
I hope this helps and good luck with your boat.
Mark
Great Video. I am also slowly running out of f***s for stupid people🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much for watching! You have to take great consideration indeed, as f***s are a precious commodity, a more valuable currency than gold 😉 better not spend them at all. Wishing you a happy not-giving-a-f**k life ahead!

Sadly you have to remove greed to get to your ideas, ? And politics 😂🤣
You are right there! Thank you for watching David 👍
