Nearly 37 years in the Army. Retired CW4... driven an Abrams and some other large 6x's... Great video! I was hinged on everything going on. Thanks, so much!
Love seeing the Sherman tank and look forward to subsequent videos about it. My father Russell C. Shepherd S/Sgt. Tank Commander was a combat soldier landing at Normandy and fighting on to Berlin. Second Armored Division 702 Battalion Company B, he and his crew in a Sherman tank destroyer took on, one to one, a German King Tiger Tank on 16 November 1944 and destroyed the Tiger. For this "heroic achievement" her was awarded the Bronze Star.

G'day Kevin here from Australia. You can never say that your job is boring with the amazing variety of vehicles you work on. Thankyou for sharing. ✌ Peace guys.
I’m hoping we get a parting shot of Scott dressed up like one of Kelly’s Heroes on that tank. Maybe wearing a WWll GI uniform with helmet and chomping on a big ass Churchill cigar as he drives away churning up a dust bowl into the Texas sunset.
That sherman looks to be an M4A2. These had the upgraded 76mm M1 main gun which could take out a tiger with ease. You are thinking about M4A1 which had the 75mm low velocity main gun.
Scott, I have always been impressed at the size and weight of components you replace on a typical bus, when compared to an average automobile. But these 'purpose built' vehicles are in another league - first noticed when it took a heavy floor jack just to pull out that cover plate from under the tank. Imagine what Lenny would weigh if it were built like these! 🤣
An old Detroit mechanic friend used to work at an Allis Chalmers dealer. They had a customer with an AC crawler tractor. They replaced the oil bath air cleaners with paper air filters and the hours between overhaul more than doubled. They found out that an oil bath air cleaner only filtered out about 15 % of the dirt that the paper elements would. I had thought for years that the reason manufacturers went to paper was for convenience when servicing.
One of the maintenance issues with oil bath air filters is the internal seals that nobody replaces. Most have cork seals/gaskets/orings internally that direct the air flow and help keep the oil in the reservoir. I personally have had many of these filters apart and all of the seals were missing. So I totally agree with what you are saying. If the oil bath is better, the industry would still be using them.
I knew right away what that sound it. As a gas mechanic it happens alot to cars as they get old and the rubber deteriorates they come apart. the 1st series 3800 were known for that but they wouldnt come all the way apart there was a finger from one that would go into the opening on the other part making it cling like that at idle.

As an old 19K, I never understood the need for drip pans until I saw my first M60. The M60 didn't leak that bad though, although I suspect the lack of daily PMCS is what's allowed these leaks to run out of control like they have.

The weirdest question I ever got when ordering parts for a car was does have a rubber floor mat or does it have carpet on the floors. I was asked that question by parts man at my local Nissan dealer back in the late 80’s when I was ordering parts for a B210. The floor mat question was to determine what trim package the car had which determine something else that I have forgotten after 30 years. If someone were to take the O-ring for the oil filter housing to a hydraulic shop they should be able to measure/match it up with a suitable replacement (Been there done that)
