I think it’s an age thing too. I was born in the 70s and had a free childhood. We camped on mountains and scared ourselves witless. We read Steven King and Dean R Koontz when we were way too young to do so. I, personally, know what being scared is. Not of the paranormal, but of the unknown. There isn’t a single video on UA-cam that comes close to a sleepless night on a mountain, talking local myths and legends of who lives in the woods 😂

Also Stephen king from literally a young age haha. We are desensitised to bullshit. People should be! You bring up a good point. I have done this for a while. Even though its to point out fakery i still find myself being disappointed. Its repetitive and it does feel different lately. I can watch a movie and get genuine scares and emotion from them but i can't do that watching paranormal bc im in debunking mode and can't enjoy them for what they are. Plus these new cameras don't feel like the older cameras. Im a genuine VHS type guy and i don't care for 4k hi definition bc its to clear to th4 point it looks like real life and thats distracting for me. Great video

Your breakdowns were fascinating and insightful to me as although I knew the footage was faked, I didn't have the knowledge or expertise to confidently see how they were done. And as for Bingo Bollocks, I can honestly say it's more inventive and creative than all the Top 5 channels on UA-cam combined!

When I was growing up I got my paranormal stories from books too, then there was Ghost Hunters and then the tv shows started coming along. Ghost Hunters made it interesting but YoutTube has made the paranormal impossible to believe. The majority of the UA-cam channels are just people trying to get views and become something but we need the debunkers to break down the BS. Keep doing what you are doing, you and Beardo have taught me so much about how these videos are manipulated and I think that's important. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people think the earth is flat, Trump should be president and we are living in a matrix. We need rational thoughts!!!

Maybe try showcasing some of these top 5 channels’ earliest videos? Go back 5-10 years where there might have some originality to paranormal videos. Of course, you’ll probably find the channels still cover those old videos like they’re new - they have memories like goldfish.
In 1975 long before the internet and UA-cam, even before personal computers were a thing, I was dating this girl I met at Uni. She was into the paranormal a subject I had no interest in. Nonetheless, knowing my scepticism she convinced/persuaded me to go on one of these paranormal investigations to a place where she assured me there was always paranormal activity. To cut a long story short there was no paranormal activity, but to the rest, every daft was seen as contact with a spirit, and every creek was poltergeist their paranormal treasure trove only existed in their mind, where they wanted to believe so much.
I couldn’t agree more with you, it even got to the point that I couldn’t watch any paranormal stuff at all. So yes it has reached its limits. When I looked at paranormal nightmare the other day, it has become the same to sadly. I love when you rant😂❤

As with all things, there is a saturation point and decline. But these things also come in waves. Maybe it'll be UFO/UAP's turn for a while, but I think humans will always be interested in the paranormal.

Yes, I think the 'paranormal' as a genre is just oversaturated now, too many teams, videos, channels, I have noticed a shift in my own paranormal FB groups where no ones interested in ghost story content any more.

I think it’s like paranormal tv. All episodes of every show were used in formula….history of the location, the investigation and then the reveal. It’s very stale.
Not so much desensitized as just plain bored with fake paranormal teams and drama inducing debunkers. I do watch the few honest teams, mainly to see the interesting locations. They don’t find much paranormal activity, but thats ok it’s not common. It’s great you have taken us hiking, on a road trip, discuss unusual topics and play Bingo with us. Parrple has his own brand of fun and SEG and Mythos have done interviews and investigations into different topics. Please continue, cause that’s what keeps it interesting for us and you!😊

I loved reading about the paranormal when I was growing up. A real, ghost hunting show like Ghost Hunters, whether real or fake, was about a team who believed but also debunked, thus being left with evidence. I couldn't wait to watch every week. Then every channel here had a paranormal show, even the Weather Channel, I kid you not! Many were obviously nothing, and most were stupid. Then UA-cam blew up with it. As much as I crave a REAL investigation show, I'm sick of it. According to Jason Hawes, the TV channel never or rarely ran an episode where everything was totally debunked, so I've stopped waiting for a truly real paranormal TV show. The channels want things to happen. UA-cam doesn't "require" that, so what if, ironically, we will only have UA-cam to turn to for honest investigations.
I feel like a big part of this is also just the disenchantment with the endless UA-cam content mill just churning out BS designed to acquire clicks. I honestly feel the same way as you. I can't enjoy paranormal videos anymore.
I have yet to see a scary video on UA-cam, they mostly make me laugh, unlike some movies. Difference is movie has a story and done, paranormal channels same thing week after week. Now rarely watch them because highly unlikely they are going to catch anything going to a location once, not investigating just urban exploring. Only ones I still watch talk about the history of the location, not just the current building, great way to learn some history about different countries 😎

I nomally dont get involved in what other people do, although i did in the past but when it comes to the paranormal, a large amount of people put out scary content with shock face thumbnails and titles with WARNING in them, just to attract attention. The thing is, i think it will not age well. Its at a time now where, if you are honest and dont pretend to be scared, viewers class you as boring, just because you are trying to be truthful and honest. People have put out the impression that the paranormal is creepy and scary, but alot of the time its more interesting or puzzling than scary. One of the problems on youtube is that people go out to make videos, basically copying what they see on tv with no basic scientific knowledge of the equipment they are using, which very often add more questions than answers because the equipment is not really up to the job. In alot of ways everyone is learning as they go because we are not scientists or audio engineers. But i am subscribed to an audio engineer who is into itc and hes not growing on youtube because he is not putting out this false impression of the paranormal. What we see on youtube now is horror films rather than true investigations alot of the time. The thing is, a debunking community has grown around it, but nobody is out there finding those small channels doing great work but struggling on youtube. There are communities on youtube about all kinds of subjects such as the paranormal, but in everything you do, there are people who are willing to milk it for everything its got and they dont care if they damage the community while doing that, and thats a sad fact. But heres my thoughts about it. If you are very interested in finding the truth about the paranormal, you should continue to do that because, if you give up because youtube in littered with clout chasers and fakers, you let these people win and convince you to loose interest in something you did enjoy, dont do that. To be honest i do ITC and paranormal for my own interest, but UA-cam isnt the first focus i have in doing it. UA-cam doesnt mean a huge amount when you consider that someone like the ITC researcher Annabella Cordoso has a few hundred subscribers on youtube. Her work is very valuable to ITC but its strange that channels who put out great learning material on youtube about the paranormal, dont get looked at because people are not willing to do there research and i find that strange. Sorry i wrote a book in your comment section and i hope i didnt annoy anyone. We can agree or disagree, but if we disagree, its kind of good because we now have a few different opinions on something which is good.

I have noticed you seemingly getting a bit over this subject. I honestly think what it is is the same as whats happened with me. The more ive watched of that stuff, the less Ive believed. Its the lack of good evidence, and all the personal experience, like "I felt a cold breeze, something touched me I swear, I saw something over there behind the camera" that we cant take as actual evidence. Thats all there is, so it just starts screaming "all the thousands of hours of ghost hunting on youtube, and yet, there is really still nothing. The lack of evidence is very noisy."
I think the problem is that everyone is doing the same thing over and over again and nobody is bringing new material or experiments to the table. This is the sum of investigations now... Rempod, catballs, and an estes method... there needs to be something different something new in order to spark that flame again. It's sad really, cause now every paranormal video is just a rerun of every other paranormal video. If it isn't for the personalities in the videos I think the whole thing would just disappear. I used to be an avid watcher of these paranormal videos until I came across your channel 2 years ago. 99% of the videos are mates putting on scary masks and what not, I do believe in the paranormal but not what's on UA-cam
100% agree. The silly fake videos were fun until the novelty wore off, desensitised to that so move on to something else. It must be hard thinking of a new catchy title for videos all the time but venturing into click bait rings alarm bells for me. Forever chasing that scare though
I don't think we are desensitized. The videos just aren't good anymore. The scary stuff YT is getting formulaic. I feel like the paranormal channels are stretched for good material and they are putting on decreasing quality of paranormal videos. Less talented, more poorly edited work. I think there are 2 kinds of paranormal video creators: the artist and the charlatan. A good scary story, which is what a paranormal video is, is an art form. Creepy pastas are a modern day art form of folk story telling. It is like sitting around a campfire for story time. And I think the good story tellers are getting bored of making stuff in this style or media. That is leaving the paranormal channels scraping the bottom of the barrel for new content to share. I think this might be what is killing it off even faster as we are left with more obvious frauds, commercialization (think haunted hotels), and boring imitations by people who just want to go viral. When the videos just aren't good anymore, you can't suspend your believe for a few seconds and enjoy the story telling or the "wait, what?" moment of surprise or a scare. You end up rolling your eyes at copycats and attention seekers. The end of a trend. Scary stories are very human though, and I think we will see the topic come up again in future, in some brand new medium in some new form of tech that we can't even imagine.
Because people really are posting content to get clicks and views over sharing the real content that might be weird/spooky/scary. Flogging the algorithm. And promoting fake shit as real content... I like horror movies because they are scary entertainment. The real creepy occult stuff is not like a horror movie... and that's fine! I don't expect it to be! I've been hardcore into this for 20+ years and low key into it for like 40 years.
I would not say that there is a general fatigue with the creepyness of paranormal stuff; there are still the real genuine teams like the Ouija Brothers who are going strong and I'm sure not getting bored of watching their content because they are made well and go to creepy places (and find nothing most of the time). Or new channels like "Don't Scare Claire" who offers historical research of a location in addition to creepy ghost stories from there. But there seems to be fewer and fewer people who watch the fake channels; Beardo made a video about this recently. One, they have seen the same fake stuff over and over again, and two there are a growing number of debunking channels and even fans of the fakers are beginning to see the fakers for what they are. As for your own point of view: you go by the rule that you won't cover a channel that you clearly debunked ever again. This means your blacklist is getting bigger and bigger and you wil run out of channels to cover. 😊Add to this the total bollocks these top five channels these days offer... the same fake stuff by different people done the millionth time... it just gets boring, for you as debunker and for the viewership. And I also do not like the shock faces and click-baity titles. If all the fakers keep following the next trend, this will leave serious teams, and maybe these then are getting the attention they deserve.
Personally I think it's just got boring. There's never anything to see and the things you see are all doubtful. Only 1 guy I still waiting to see if he's going to be debunked at some point or not. And like you mention, all the video titles and thumbnails it's always clickbait.

Oh Dan I have to disagree about the faces, even the shocked ones, it's not just so called paranormal who do them, it's also just UA-camrs period who do that, and they are all annoying, lol, and I find them so stupid! Especially when it's someone who is older, whoms channel is about serious real stuff, because it makes them look stupid, even when they really aren't, at least when it comes to what their channel tends to focus on! But like you say I guess they do it because they think it helps to get more people to watch their videos, but it kinda puts me off when I see a serious person of any age doing that! Because people aren't watching you because you don't do something silly for your thumbnail, meaning making a face like that, then they probably won't even get what your seriously talking about! But the worse channels are the ones who use also totally fake thumbnails, and you watch it and the thing in the thumbnail is never showed, which it seems most channels seem to do, and because of that if I see a new channel pop up being recommended to me, and they have a clearly fake thumbnail, which most are so obviously fake, I won't even bother to watch their videos at all! Which with a few I have watched, sometimes they are actually not that bad to watch, but they make themselves look bad and fake, by using the fake thumbnails, so like me, it probably keeps a lot of people from bothering to watch them, so they actually lose viewers! Because i think a lot of people are getting tired of all the fakery, so now they don't give anyone who even just have those dumb thumbnails a try anymore, so even ones that's videos might be really interesting, lose out on views and subs, because they are copying the ones that are being fake with their thumbnails and in their videos! It's rather sad really! Maybe try showcasing some of these top 5 channels’ earliest videos? Go back 5-10 years where there might have some originality to paranormal videos. Of course, you’ll probably find the channels still cover those old videos like they’re new - they have memories like goldfish.
In 1975 long before the internet and UA-cam, even before personal computers were a thing, I was dating this girl I met at Uni. She was into the paranormal a subject I had no interest in. Nonetheless, knowing my scepticism she convinced/persuaded me to go on one of these paranormal investigations to a place where she assured me there was always paranormal activity. To cut a long story short there was no paranormal activity, but to the rest, every daft was seen as contact with a spirit, and every creek was poltergeist their paranormal treasure trove only existed in their mind, where they wanted to believe so much.

Yes, I think the 'paranormal' as a genre is just oversaturated now, too many teams, videos, channels, I have noticed a shift in my own paranormal FB groups where no ones interested in ghost story content any more.
Sadly, I have to agree with yo. I start watching them and almost always turn off half way through as they are clearly fake. Don't get me started on "Really Haunted". I also share your feelings towards TikTok.

I think it’s like paranormal tv. All episodes of every show were used in formula….history of the location, the investigation and then the reveal. It’s very stale.
Not so much desensitized as just plain bored with fake paranormal teams and drama inducing debunkers. I do watch the few honest teams, mainly to see the interesting locations. They don’t find much paranormal activity, but thats ok it’s not common. It’s great you have taken us hiking, on a road trip, discuss unusual topics and play Bingo with us. Parrple has his own brand of fun and SEG and Mythos have done interviews and investigations into different topics. Please continue, cause that’s what keeps it interesting for us and you!😊

I loved reading about the paranormal when I was growing up. A real, ghost hunting show like Ghost Hunters, whether real or fake, was about a team who believed but also debunked, thus being left with evidence. I couldn't wait to watch every week. Then every channel here had a paranormal show, even the Weather Channel, I kid you not! Many were obviously nothing, and most were stupid. Then UA-cam blew up with it. As much as I crave a REAL investigation show, I'm sick of it. According to Jason Hawes, the TV channel never or rarely ran an episode where everything was totally debunked, so I've stopped waiting for a truly real paranormal TV show. The channels want things to happen. UA-cam doesn't "require" that, so what if, ironically, we will only have UA-cam to turn to for honest investigations.

paranormal instigators have always been a joke to me. They are just adult people running around nothing.
I have yet to see a scary video on UA-cam, they mostly make me laugh, unlike some movies. Difference is movie has a story and done, paranormal channels same thing week after week. Now rarely watch them because highly unlikely they are going to catch anything going to a location once, not investigating just urban exploring. Only ones I still watch talk about the history of the location, not just the current building, great way to learn some history about different countries 😎

I nomally dont get involved in what other people do, although i did in the past but when it comes to the paranormal, a large amount of people put out scary content with shock face thumbnails and titles with WARNING in them, just to attract attention. The thing is, i think it will not age well. Its at a time now where, if you are honest and dont pretend to be scared, viewers class you as boring, just because you are trying to be truthful and honest. People have put out the impression that the paranormal is creepy and scary, but alot of the time its more interesting or puzzling than scary. One of the problems on youtube is that people go out to make videos, basically copying what they see on tv with no basic scientific knowledge of the equipment they are using, which very often add more questions than answers because the equipment is not really up to the job.
In alot of ways everyone is learning as they go because we are not scientists or audio engineers. But i am subscribed to an audio engineer who is into itc and hes not growing on youtube because he is not putting out this false impression of the paranormal. What we see on youtube now is horror films rather than true investigations alot of the time. The thing is, a debunking community has grown around it, but nobody is out there finding those small channels doing great work but struggling on youtube.
There are communities on youtube about all kinds of subjects such as the paranormal, but in everything you do, there are people who are willing to milk it for everything its got and they dont care if they damage the community while doing that, and thats a sad fact. But heres my thoughts about it. If you are very interested in finding the truth about the paranormal, you should continue to do that because, if you give up because youtube in littered with clout chasers and fakers, you let these people win and convince you to loose interest in something you did enjoy, dont do that.
To be honest i do ITC and paranormal for my own interest, but UA-cam isnt the first focus i have in doing it. UA-cam doesnt mean a huge amount when you consider that someone like the ITC researcher Annabella Cordoso has a few hundred subscribers on youtube. Her work is very valuable to ITC but its strange that channels who put out great learning material on youtube about the paranormal, dont get looked at because people are not willing to do there research and i find that strange.
Sorry i wrote a book in your comment section and i hope i didnt annoy anyone. We can agree or disagree, but if we disagree, its kind of good because we now have a few different opinions on something which is good.

I have noticed you seemingly getting a bit over this subject.
I honestly think what it is is the same as whats happened with me. The more ive watched of that stuff, the less Ive believed. Its the lack of good evidence, and all the personal experience, like "I felt a cold breeze, something touched me I swear, I saw something over there behind the camera" that we cant take as actual evidence.
Thats all there is, so it just starts screaming "all the thousands of hours of ghost hunting on youtube, and yet, there is really still nothing. The lack of evidence is very noisy."
I think the problem is that everyone is doing the same thing over and over again and nobody is bringing new material or experiments to the table. This is the sum of investigations now... Rempod, catballs, and an estes method... there needs to be something different something new in order to spark that flame again. It's sad really, cause now every paranormal video is just a rerun of every other paranormal video. If it isn't for the personalities in the videos I think the whole thing would just disappear. But this better not change Bingo Bollox damn it, I still haven't won one!!

I used to be an avid watcher of these paranormal videos until I came across your channel 2 years ago. 99% of the videos are mates putting on scary masks and what not, I do believe in the paranormal but not what's on UA-cam

100% agree. The silly fake videos were fun until the novelty wore off, desensitised to that so move on to something else. It must be hard thinking of a new catchy title for videos all the time but venturing into click bait rings alarm bells for me. Forever chasing that scare though

The scary stuff YT is getting formulaic. I feel like the paranormal channels are stretched for good material and they are putting on decreasing quality of paranormal videos. Less talented, more poorly edited work.
I think there are 2 kinds of paranormal video creators: the artist and the charlatan.
A good scary story, which is what a paranormal video is, is an art form. Creepy pastas are a modern day art form of folk story telling. It is like sitting around a campfire for story time. And I think the good story tellers are getting bored of making stuff in this style or media. That is leaving the paranormal channels scraping the bottom of the barrel for new content to share. I think this might be what is killing it off even faster as we are left with more obvious frauds, commercialization (think haunted hotels), and boring imitations by people who just want to go viral. When the videos just aren't good anymore, you can't suspend your believe for a few seconds and enjoy the story telling or the "wait, what?" moment of surprise or a scare. You end up rolling your eyes at copycats and attention seekers. The end of a trend.
Scary stories are very human though, and I think we will see the topic come up again in future, in some brand new medium in some new form of tech that we can't even imagine.

Because people really are posting content to get clicks and views over sharing the real content that might be weird/spooky/scary. Flogging the algorithm. And promoting fake shit as real content... I like horror movies because they are scary entertainment. The real creepy occult stuff is not like a horror movie... and that's fine! I don't expect it to be! I've been hardcore into this for 20+ years and low key into it for like 40 years.

I would not say that there is a general fatigue with the creepyness of paranormal stuff; there are still the real genuine teams like the Ouija Brothers who are going strong and I'm sure not getting bored of watching their content because they are made well and go to creepy places (and find nothing most of the time). Or new channels like "Don't Scare Claire" who offers historical research of a location in addition to creepy ghost stories from there. But there seems to be fewer and fewer people who watch the fake channels; Beardo made a video about this recently. One, they have seen the same fake stuff over and over again, and two there are a growing number of debunking channels and even fans of the fakers are beginning to see the fakers for what they are.
As for your own point of view: you go by the rule that you won't cover a channel that you clearly debunked ever again. This means your blacklist is getting bigger and bigger and you wil run out of channels to cover. 😊Add to this the total bollocks these top five channels these days offer... the same fake stuff by different people done the millionth time... it just gets boring, for you as debunker and for the viewership. And I also do not like the shock faces and click-baity titles.
If all the fakers keep following the next trend, this will leave serious teams, and maybe these then are getting the attention they deserve.

Personally I think it's just got boring. There's never anything to see and the things you see are all doubtful. Only 1 guy I still waiting to see if he's going to be debunked at some point or not. And like you mention, all the video titles and thumbnails it's always clickbait.

Oh Dan I have to disagree about the faces, even the shocked ones, it's not just so called paranormal who do them, it's also just UA-camrs period who do that, and they are all annoying, lol, and I find them so stupid! Especially when it's someone who is older, whoms channel is about serious real stuff, because it makes them look stupid, even when they really aren't, at least when it comes to what their channel tends to focus on! But like you say I guess they do it because they think it helps to get more people to watch their videos, but it kinda puts me off when I see a serious person of any age doing that! Because people aren't watching you because you don't do something silly for your thumbnail, meaning making a face like that, then they probably won't even get what your seriously talking about!
But the worse channels are the ones who use also totally fake thumbnails, and you watch it and the thing in the thumbnail is never showed, which it seems most channels seem to do, and because of that if I see a new channel pop up being recommended to me, and they have a clearly fake thumbnail, which most are so obviously fake, I won't even bother to watch their videos at all! Which with a few I have watched, sometimes they are actually not that bad to watch, but they make themselves look bad and fake, by using the fake thumbnails, so like me, it probably keeps a lot of people from bothering to watch them, so they actually lose viewers! Because i think a lot of people are getting tired of all the fakery, so now they don't give anyone who even just have those dumb thumbnails a try anymore, so even ones that's videos might be really interesting, lose out on views and subs, because they are copying the ones that are being fake with their thumbnails and in their videos! It's rather sad really!

So me missing them the first time isn't that unusual anyway, lol!
