I don't blame Mendoza for the move to bring in Maton. What killed the Mets was that 2-11 with RISP and leaving 9 runners on base too. You're not going to win games if you don't get the big hits.
I can't believe that all 3 games are played at their ballpark. That shouldn't be the case. MLB screwed that up. It should be 2 games at the higher seed and 1 and the lower seed.
Stanek has pitched more than one inning once with the Mets. That doesn’t make any sense. If anything, Maton should have pitched the 7th. He just didn’t have it after pitching 4 times in 5 games.
@@michaelmulligan6444 I throw everything out the window in the playoffs. I would have kept Severino in for the 7th he was grooving on Tuesday. It’s an at bat by at bat approach. For last night, Let Stanek start the inning at least. I consider even Diaz for the 8th because it’s the heart of the lineup.
@@coolguy1127 agreed. We should have taken that game easily with those simple gut moves. Maton has been dicey of late. I won't trust him again in a deciding game.
I think our manager knows what he’s doing. Whether it’s saving our weapons for game 3, or this was the Brewers game and he recognized that, or whatever the case may be. I have a good feeling about the Mets
I think it’s outrageous that team broadcasters, who have lived and died with every pitch during the regular season, are cast aside during the postseason. I watch and/or listen to every Mets game with my MLB subscription here in N.C. I really have no interest in listening to ESPN, Fox Sports, Apple TV. But money rules. It’s very disheartening.
No Gary , Maton wasn't the "Right Call". There was no reason to make any calls. Your 7th inning pitcher got three men out on a handful of pitches. BRING HIM BACK IN. Reed Garret also is capable of pitching more than one inning and he was sharp. Maton should have been out of there after the first home run. If you're going to analyze you have to learn to criticise when your boy Carlos does something wrong. Yesterday you beat the hell out of the Brewers manager for making a pitching change but seem reluctant to do the same here.
Finally someone else lamenting the lost art of bunting. I watched the '52 World series here on you tube. You would be amazed at how many bunts and the guys who bunted, Mantle, Snider, Jackie Robinson! I like Vientos but both him and Alonzo hit into a lot of double plays. I would have Vientos bunt with bases loaded and 1 out if the Mets were only 1 run behind. Think about it, even the best hitter has over a 60% chance of making an out and the odds are he will only get a single if he hits.
personal opinion, keep Manaea in for 1 inning, Garrett then Stanek then Diaz/ Peterson, would've had way better winning chances. Watching Maton 1st few pitches before the homer, he literally looked liked he was throwing BP. Everytime was hit hard, even the DP. Wrong guy, wrong time. Edwin in 8th, peterson in 9th, we probably win.
2 for 11 is bad. Have to do better, but we also need the long ball. I appreciate the approach change and pressing their defense, being pesky, but now it is time to bring the rain. I'm not worried about Quintana. He typically shows up in September and October and give solid outings.
Whats the difference between Severino who for example can throw 96-97-98 for 6 to 9 innings and a Stanek who throws just has hard but only is expected to throw for 1 inning? Are both guys on different levels of fitness? 1 is built, or trains to go the distance, and the other for just 1 inning or maybe 2? I hope my point is made.
3:19 my issue was he gave up a homer gave up a hard single got a double play off a pretty hard hit ball and then another single, why didn’t he take them out? Why did he keep them in there? It was obvious he didn’t have his stuff last night.
Unacceptable New York Mets, blow the lead and lose to Milwaukee Brewers, Unacceptable. Can't believe it. Another reliever ,another blown save. Should have invited the 7 line, to take care of the Milwaukee Brewers.
You keep changing pitchers like your playing musical chairs and you are bound to come up with a guy having a bad night. Old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Garret pitched a strong inning and is capable of Two. I'm not crazy about Stanik but he got them out 1-2-3 throwing only a couple of pitches . Why take him out. Another thing- you give up a hr in a big game you got to be rattled. Why don't the Mets Mgr or coach come out and settle the guy down?
I’m a rare Yankees fan who roots for the Mets (as long as they’re not playing us). I’m a New Yorker, first and foremost. I’ll be rooting for the Mets today.
Here's one for you: Maximize lefties today. DH Brett Baty(option Acuna). Winker in RF. Nimmo in LF. Lindor switch hitter obviously = 4 lefties. I'd also start Torrens to stop the MIL running game which will raise its head today); Alvarez has been awful(1-8, .250 OPS in this series).
I don't blame Mendoza for the move to bring in Maton. What killed the Mets was that 2-11 with RISP and leaving 9 runners on base too. You're not going to win games if you don't get the big hits.
We've got 1 hitter on the team lindor

I didn’t realize that as well. I haven’t been watching baseball the last few years as much, I guess this is new. Not good for the Mets.
So, then you can complain about the travel?
Ha.
They want teams to play for first place. I agree with it.
This is such a homer take lol
funny enough these road teams have had better records with these wild card games. Mets in 2022 had the 3 home games against the Padres and lost.
If Alonso doesn’t show up today, I think he’s cost himself millions of dollars on the open market. He’s been a complete waste.
Don't worry, he won't

Last thing I'll say is this.
I BELIEVE THE METS CAN DO IT.
The right call was to keep Stanek in
I said the same as I was leaving the stadium
Stanek has pitched more than one inning once with the Mets. That doesn’t make any sense.
If anything, Maton should have pitched the 7th. He just didn’t have it after pitching 4 times in 5 games.
Stat nerds will never fully grasp baseball.
There are X-Factors called "mojo" and "cahones". Stanek had both going for him coming off of game 1.

Zero hrs in the two games. Mets win, when they homer.

Gary Maton was definitely not the right “call”! That was all analytics. And during playoff baseball, you don’t do that! You go with your finishers!

Sorry guys but 2 runners on base no body outs you have to bunt

@josephshields2922 yes men Taylor with 2 runners on base no outs no bunt
@losbatiamigosdefran5710 in Atlanta was the same but we won because Nimmo Homer and then in the 9 Lindor Homer
If Alonso0-fer got maybe 10 clutch hits this season...just 10 or so....the Mets would have won the division.
No question whatsoever, Stanek was dominating and should have been left in for the 8th. Period!
Taking your best pitcher out after 5 innings? Absolutely inane.

Mendoza screwed up the game and this loss will be on him so the exit from the playoffs.
Nailed it
2 for 11 with runners in scoring position was not Mendoza's fault. We should have been comfortably ahead by the 8th inning.
