STREAM STARTS AT 2:00 -- Mike tutors Luke through 90 minutes of Dark Souls Remastered. Expect tussles with the Bell Gargoyles and the Capra Demon, and many, many evil skeletons. Enjoy!
LUUUUKE! YOU NEED TO TRY FINAL FANTASY XI ! If you like traditional party setups. It's usually tank+healer+dd+support 6 person party in there. Great even after 15 years. (PS > That's 11, not 14. FF14 is just a WoW clone with lesser party play.) (PPS > And yes, the caps are because I yelled that at the screen... XD )
If you want to try a game that's a different theme than WoW, but has some of the same tank/heal/DPS mechanics, you should try Champions Online. It is SOO much fun!
I hate people telling others that the way they play games is wrong. If they enjoy themselves more because they have a decent sword quite soon why does it matter! Making things harder for yourself doesn’t make you a better person somehow, even if you really are more skilled.
To be clear, I have finished dark souls, so I understand that the drake sword doesn’t scale (I only discovered it by the time it was worse than the stuff I was using), and that’s good advice to someone playing for the first time, but you can very easily change to a weapon that does scale when your stats are good enough, there is nothing locking you in to using the drake sword forever.
I agree. Roleplay games aren't even made with skill in mind. They're made with builds. If you managed to find a super duper item that makes life easier for you, that's a good thing, and most likely is the reason it was made to begin with.
I think the idea behind disliking the Drake sword is that it prevents actual learning during the easier parts of the game, so when you can't use an OP sword later on, your skill won't be high enough to take on enemies. That said, it is a game, I don't think it really matters.
39:55 about Solaire: "I know you like the sun, but..." "He's like a moth. Anything shiny and he's attracted to it." Well that's going to get him killed someday.....
Jane is secretly just here to see how her demon minions are fairing against guinea-pig Luke, so that she may identify the ones which require "further enhancements."
Funny going back in time after watching Luke mentor Ellen as "Star Wars" Obi-Wan and see him here as "Star Wars Prequel" Obi-Wan with a mentor of his own...
One of the few good things about 2020 is being indoors a LOT so having time to catch up on the back catalogue of Oxboxtra videos that I hadn’t watched. Love how wholesome and pure you are interacting with the chat, it brings so much light.
Speaking of video game tattoos, your video a while back inspired me to finally get one I had been thinking of forever! I now have a mass relay and the quote "Go out there and give them hell" on my ankle :D So happy!
"The real enemy is the edge"! As a new player to the Dark Souls party, I have found this is absolutely true. I am shocked how often falling off shit has killed me...
I actually got a tattoo of the dark souls bonfire done on my arm. I plan to expand on it with other pieces from games I’ve loved over the years. That being said, I just thought it was funny that you guys were talking about it.
Eurogamer's LP is a pretty low bar, Johnny in particular is comically bad. Killing Gargoyles and Capra Demon on first attempt while live streaming is impressive by any standard.
Jam Dev TBF though Luke is using an OP sword. And being comically bad is often much more entertaining...all the times they've accidentally walked off ledges, for instance.
Why worry about your armor in dark souls when you can wear whatever you want in Fashionborne where the differences between the armors are so minimal that it comes down to what you like the best. Personally, I think Grey Wolf is the best
You know the Doom marine link thing, is actually quite plausible, when you factor in Doom guy and Doom Marine being two separate beings. Plus It's been speculated that respawning in Zelda is what the triforce of courage does. Which explains why only he survived. So yeah, maybe Ganon went meddling in Argent energy, found something he couldn't control. Hell swallowed that dimension, it's kinda what they do.
Jane, fyi storytelling has already been done right in an MMORPG, if you haven't played FFXIV yet you're doing yourself a disservice. I've laughed, I've cried, I've been through just about every emotion during that game's story. The game itself is amazing in many ways but it's got a captivating story throughout the entire thing. I'm somewhat a connoisseur of mmo's (and FF's) and XIV is the only one that has a story worth playing through.
Dark Souls kart racer was the subject of a long conversation on the Eurogamer Darks Souls let's play fyi! The first Anor Londo episode I think. We had fun with it in the comments
People hate the Drake sword cuz it's way too good for early game. It makes the early bosses half way trivialized. Now if you were running the Drake sword late game, then you are a noob. P.S. Maybe this is a bit of a minor spoiler concerning the armored pig so don't look down if you want a true blind playthrough. If Luke dropped his shield while fighting that pig, he could have crit it and stabbed in the butt.
Thet Lin Htet I really don't understand the "its too good for that part of the game" mentality. I mean, its available and ready to get and its not like you're completly sequence breaking (+5 fire zveihander/ dusk crown+bellowing dragorncrest+ ivory catalyst before Taurus Demon). If a weapon is there, why not claim it?
Oooohhhh Berserk got brought up!! The best manga of all time. Like 75% of dark souls is just reimagined Berserk. You can completely become Guts in dark souls 2 including the black berserk armor
maan i really want to play dark souls (been wanting... for like... years.....) but i have no StrategyTM like how far can i get just by button smashing and frantic screaming? like IT LOOKS SO FUN but i may just be stuck the first region or whatever.. fOREVER?!
Play Dungeons and Dragons Online if you want strategic party combat with Healer/Tank/DPS lol... well.. the old game was like that, now you have to play on max difficulty for that to matter
Luke: Fat-rolling is not a 'trade-off' because the damage reduction provided by armor is very VERY limited. Dodging is a key mechanic in all of the Souls games, and you will not make it through your first playthrough if you allow yourself to fat-roll. There ARE proper tanks built, but they're specifically made to exploit specific mechanics (which were removed in later games due to brokenness). You can't approach this as a normal RPG where you wear the armor designed for your starter class and boost strength to auto-build a tank. Basic DS builds are (1) The weapon (2) the attribute[s] associated with said weapon. Armor is incidental; experienced players tend to go naked for the first third of the game just to get the fastest roll.
Exquisite Corpse i didn't know anything about fat rolling but I started with ds3 cuz that's the one I had and I wore too much heavy armor so I did fat roll, but I got so used to it that I got really good at timing my dodges with a slow roll. When my buddy told me I was overencumbered, I switched to lighter armor and I couldn't dodge properly anymore cuz it was too fast and I wasn't used to it. I just switched back and beat the whole game with fat roll
now that you have unlocked Andre you can upgrade your weapons so when you do the drake sword will be useless as it doesn't scale its damage with your stats
Mike is such a good coach, he needs to coach the England NT so they can win the bloody World Cup in the summer.(Btw any chance you guys do a FIFA 18 challenge in theme of the world cup, maybe?I know you guys really arent into it but might be fun)
so apparently you just weren't listening when he said he used it to speed through the beginning because he was getting capture? First, open your ears. Second, be more of a DS nerd elitist please.
Sorry I don't know what DS nerd elitist is, never played pvp. But I still find it funny the praise on the sword. Anyway, loved the capra demon fight, very tense.
To explain the Drake Sword to Jane, typically in Dark Souls you pick a weapon and that is your weapon for the entire run as you upgrade it and yourself to get more power out of it. The Drake Sword while starting out strong has lackluster final stats, no stat scaling and a complete inability to be buffed with spells like magic weapon. So it is called a noob weapon because it makes the early game easier, but it is a trap and you find a spear that is just flat out better in the third required area in the game.
WHAT. What do you mean don't jump in the elevator hole. That was the first thing I did when I started the game. THERE ARE TREASURES MAN FOUR TREASURES. I mean the skeletons killed me very quickly so I don't know where it would lead. But TREASURES
The thing with the Drake Sword is that it trivializes the early game, but since it doesnt scale with your stat points, it becomes useless further on in the game. This is when a lot of first time players hit a wall and quit the game altogether because the Drake Sword prevents new players from actually learning how to play the game proper since it one shots everything.

Mike's self-satisfied looks of joy throughout this whole livestream are the purest.
I see Luke is continuing his tradition of naming player characters after fish. Would that make this Dark Soles? ;)
DallyDaydream Booo!
i know I'm pretty randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Alijah Maxwell I watch on flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Darren Russell Yea, I've been watching on Flixzone for since march myself :)
@Darren Russell Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it!!

Jane is secretly just here to see how her demon minions are fairing against guinea-pig Luke, so that she may identify the ones which require "further enhancements."
also zombies and skeletons. :p
ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
Max Littlewood Or at least the speed of >50% equip load
Funny going back in time after watching Luke mentor Ellen as "Star Wars" Obi-Wan and see him here as "Star Wars Prequel" Obi-Wan with a mentor of his own...
Friends don't let other friends fat-roll.
What about fat roll speed runs
27:12 I wonder if Luke had predicted Bloodborne Cart LOL
43:34 On spotting Oswald of Carim for the first time, Luke made a distress cry sounding similar to Frodo Baggins'.
Luke's freak out @43:30 absolutely killed me 😂😂😂😂😂
One of the few good things about 2020 is being indoors a LOT so having time to catch up on the back catalogue of Oxboxtra videos that I hadn’t watched. Love how wholesome and pure you are interacting with the chat, it brings so much light.
OMG, Jane's "scrub lord zombies" is the best put down ever.
Mike is the personification of everything I love about die hard Dark Souls fans. Praise the Sun!
Speaking of video game tattoos, your video a while back inspired me to finally get one I had been thinking of forever! I now have a mass relay and the quote "Go out there and give them hell" on my ankle :D So happy!
Very impressed with Mike knowing all of Timon's 'Big Pig' lyrics :O
"The real enemy is the edge"! As a new player to the Dark Souls party, I have found this is absolutely true. I am shocked how often falling off shit has killed me...
It is nice seeing all this Luke and Mike bonding in the past few videos. :D And I think it will be cute to see a small Great White Whale.
I thought they were taking about great white sharks?
Make this game into a series! Luke plays and Mike guides!
Jane the healer??? I didn't realise Eldritch Blast was a healing spell...
It stresses me out so much how little stamina management is happening lol.
It's so lovely coming back to vids like these after seeing Ellen's Souls Academy, Luke has indeed become the master!
Wait till Luke finds out how convoluted getting back to the Asylum is.
I actually got a tattoo of the dark souls bonfire done on my arm. I plan to expand on it with other pieces from games I’ve loved over the years. That being said, I just thought it was funny that you guys were talking about it.
anyone checking this out after seeing ellen smash it bravo to you sir
The drake sword reminds me of the Crissaegrim from Castlevania: SotN. Once you get it, its game over for the final boss.
Keep up the great work. I need to go back and play this game again. Gave up after an hour because I kept dying.
Luke is obviously the best dark souls player ever. How have we not known this?!?!
Grass crest shield+stam ring+spear. Enjoy turtle mode in even the tightest spots!!
I like how Luke makes the mistake of standing downwind of pumba at 8.47
I love watching this after Luke and Ellen smashed her playthrough to dust and seeing Luke walk around with his shield up. Frankly it's adorable 😍
14:47 That backstab is exactly what happened to me! The knight flipped me around and backstabbed me when I tried to backstab him. Gahhhh!
love janes haircut its so cute
fun fact: it's the classic look from the old Oxbox vids :p
Luke was amazing...really put Eurogamer's LP to shame. Seems the Oxfamily have the more competent gamers :P
I had to stop watching, it was giving me anxiety. It's like he was born without any sense of self-preservation.
I laughed that Johnny died to Pinwheel. And I keep trying to tell them a- TWO hand weapons with strength scaling, b- wear the damn Mask of the Child.
TBH, i watch mainly for the banter, not quality gameplay. They're almost a double act, sometimes.
Much fun as always. Glad Luke could end on a high note!
For Mike and Jane as sci-fi enthusiasts might I recommend the youtube channel Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur.
When Yahtzee and his gf Kess were streaming this game they took to calling the estus flasks "Kesstus flasks"
Why worry about your armor in dark souls when you can wear whatever you want in Fashionborne where the differences between the armors are so minimal that it comes down to what you like the best. Personally, I think Grey Wolf is the best
Love rewatching this vod after Luke has one-shooted his way through Bloodborne
I think we should have a video of Luke shooting the dragon with arrows.
Really struggling to find the previous stream
Luke is surprisingly great at Dark Souls, or Mike is a great guide, or both?
Jam Dev Both, Luke doing a great job and mike proved his skills as a guide during the PUBG Christmas Challenge vs Andy
I think things might change after Sen's Fortress. Just a guess.
You know the Doom marine link thing, is actually quite plausible, when you factor in Doom guy and Doom Marine being two separate beings. So yeah, maybe Ganon went meddling in Argent energy, found something he couldn't control. Hell swallowed that dimension, it's kinda what they do.
I really like playing healers and tanks, my favorite are healer tanks? Which is what my main D&D character is.
For those of us in the future, stream starts at 2:01
It was Luke's "destiny" to make that joke about the wizard.
I'm doing a let's play of dark souls 3 as casca... any thoughts on berzerk

Props to Jane and the oxbox crew for being the few ppl that can say my name
Right 🙌 ps luke is good at dark souls
Dark Souls kart racer was the subject of a long conversation on the Eurogamer Darks Souls let's play fyi! The first Anor Londo episode I think. We had fun with it in the comments
Mike vs O&S livestream you guys!!
Good job, Sword!
I like how Mike totally Janed Luke in the church.
53:00 "Biddy purrs when Jane talks." BUT THE SAME GUY COMMENTED THAT ON THE NEXT DARK SOULS PLAY THROUGH WITH ELLEN ON AND HE SAID THAT ABOUT ELLEN!
People hate the Drake sword cuz it's way too good for early game. It makes the early bosses half way trivialized. Now if you were running the Drake sword late game, then you are a noob.

If a weapon is there, why not claim it?
I KNOW!! Also considering you have to snipe a moving drake tail.
I kinda think they intentionally put in a load of hidden stuff just to see if people would find it.
Oooohhhh Berserk got brought up!! The best manga of all time. Like 75% of dark souls is just reimagined Berserk. You can completely become Guts in dark souls 2 including the black berserk armor
maan i really want to play dark souls (been wanting... for like... years.....) but i have no StrategyTM like how far can i get just by button smashing and frantic screaming? like IT LOOKS SO FUN but i may just be stuck the first region or whatever.. fOREVER?!
Did no one point out that Hephaestus is the Olympian smith? Zeus is too busy shapechanging and sexing up anyone and anything that strikes his fancy.
Play Dungeons and Dragons Online if you want strategic party combat with Healer/Tank/DPS lol... well.. the old game was like that, now you have to play on max difficulty for that to matter
I didn’t think they used to play MMOs and similar, not until recently anyway...
Anyone notice Zerolenny asking what the game was?
New drinking game: drink any time Luke drinks his magical Gatorade
1:16:54 this was so fun to hear, my cats name is hashbrown
Luke: Fat-rolling is not a 'trade-off' because the damage reduction provided by armor is very VERY limited. Dodging is a key mechanic in all of the Souls games, and you will not make it through your first playthrough if you allow yourself to fat-roll.

I would want to mix GTA and fallout. Sounds really weird but I really want it.
A Fallout online mode would be the best thing ever.
In which setting would you put it? A return to the fan fav locations or something new..?
Luke you neeeeeed to let go of the shield button between enemy attacks to let your stamina regen or they will break your guard every time.
I love you guys, but not quite sure how to date all five of you at once.....
If you come to Calgary I will set up hammocks for everyone and we can have a hammock party!
It's funny watching people actually play, when I play it turns into throw all the bombs and dodge.
now that you have unlocked Andre you can upgrade your weapons so when you do the drake sword will be useless as it doesn't scale its damage with your stats
Luke you should try Final Fantasy XIV, it has a healer, tank, dps formation with dungeons and raids.
I love you guys but for the love of god lower your shield so your stamina can regen!
43:32 is my aesthetic.
Last of Us livestream on Grounded mode :D
Now is the time to play urban assault vehicle. Keep rollin' rollin' rollin' rollin'
It's not that the drake sword is cheating it's that it has no scaling.
wait what? why so few comments?!
GravitySloth because it was a livestream.. all the comments are in the live stream chat. These comments are from after it ended.
Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh shout out to left handed people
I would 100% watch underachiever where you tried to get the achievements but are still kinda crap at games. It'd be like watching myself play!
My brother was walking in water and a bass started biting his big toe
😂
Note: The sound of the game is too low
the girl kept me watching 😄
Mike is such a good coach, he needs to coach the England NT so they can win the bloody World Cup in the summer.(Btw any chance you guys do a FIFA 18 challenge in theme of the world cup, maybe?I know you guys really arent into it but might be fun)
Time for Luke to meet Pope Merlin at 25.44
You do get to a point in a friendship where you discuss what it would be like to eat the other person.
By the name your cat after food logic if I ever have one it will be known as Mac+Cheese
gotta love the fact that the vet helping them is a drake sword fan
so apparently you just weren't listening when he said he used it to speed through the beginning because he was getting capture? First, open your ears. Second, be more of a DS nerd elitist please.

Bangin lift tune.
WHAT. What do you mean don't jump in the elevator hole. That was the first thing I did when I started the game. THERE ARE TREASURES MAN FOUR TREASURES. I mean the skeletons killed me very quickly so I don't know where it would lead. But TREASURES
Hey, got some good news and some bad news about those games you were looking forwards to
I was thinking about all food names being good cat names but cat isn't a very good cat name
lest you kicked xD i some how fail with kicking, i just own without it.
I see youre using the drake sword.
Mike, there is treasure under the elevator to Firelink. You cost Luke 3 or 4 treasure chests
Should have equipped the halberd, it works in corridors
why is he smashing the barrels?
I know how to get to blighttown, but it doesn't help now...
National Trust would have told Luke that he's Satan spawn so would have died
