Interesting fact - This same guy applied to be tour bus driver for Ritchie Blackmore when they were touring just months before this with Rainbow. Ritchie is famously unsociable, but he met the driver for a minute and said Ok, my guys will let you know. After he had left, he told his tour manager "I don't want anything to do with this guy, he has dark energy. Do not call this guy back, we will find someone else". Ritchie was [and is] highly into mysticism and esoteric forces, he picked up bad vibes from the guy, turns out he was right.
Nowadays, they just drug-test drivers. Who'd-a-thunk-it?! It's one thing to do drugs but, if you're responsible for other's safety, you are drug tested. Thank God!
Randy Rhoads died trying to keep that plane from crashing into the bus. The bus driver was a crazy man on a mission. Ozzy is still not over losing Randy. Rest in Peace, Randy and Rachel. This should be a lesson to all entertainers. The chauffeurs should never party with the employers. Just an incredible waste of life.

Ah, no. Rhoads would have never matched what Yngiwe Malmsteen was to play in the years to follow. People actually studied music theory to emulate Malmsteen. Rhoads was good but no Malmsteen.
Errata : 0:42 that’s not the original band that’s the second lineup of the band that was formed to tour for the second album. The original band (who recorded both albums) toured in support of the first album in 1980.

Randy's influence is huge. I still teach 'Crazy Train' to this day. My student's love the opening riff and the challenge his guitar playing brings to the game. RIP metal master. We still think of him almost daily in my guitar teaching studio. Gone too soon.
This was such a a tragic story. My husband auditioned for Ozzy after Randy's death. Thank got he didn't get the job. I would have never met him. Plus, Ozzy and Sharon are horrible people. Thank you for another great video!
They are horrible, we've conducted an interview with Andrew Klein who worked on the shelved Rhoads film...some eye opening stuff with his research including Sharon being ol with Randy leaving as she could hire someone cheaper.
Sharon ran the show. She made Ozzy a star. He was always drunk and high. He never knew what was going on. She was the manager and tough one. Not Ozzy. He was/is weak. Did whatever he was told and he loved Randy like a brother or son. He still sends huge flower display to his grave yearly.
I had tickets to see Ozzy and Randy at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio, a few weeks after the crash happened. The concert was rescheduled for a month or so later, with Brad Gillis from Nightranger handling the guitar IIRC.
Did you teach at Acacia middle school by chance? Your voice and picture is very familiar, I'll have to look at my old yearbooks. What a small world haha, I went to acacia at the turn of the millennium. What a shame we lost Randy so early, I can only imagine what else he would've done with guitar. I was a sophomore in High School and remember it well. A crushing blow. Scorpions, Ozzy,, and all the rest, They were my world at the time. A buddy who played guitar in HS won a Randy Rhoads guitar strap in a auction. He still has it.

A friend of a friend in high school was taking guitar lessons from Randy, we got free tckets to see Quiet Riot on the strip, (rainbow, starwood?, not sure) I remember the band took a long break, but Randy never stopped his solo. Amazing!

I'll never forget when I first learned of Randy's death, when the album Tribute came out and I was already a teen metalhead just having been into Ozzy in the previous year. I used to come home every day that 9th grade year and play that tape and cry for him, having read his story in the guitar magazines. He definitely inspired me to become a guitarist in a unique and emotional way. Great video, that puts the end of his story into a nice nutshell. Thank you 👍

A few minor corrections. The picture of the band you show as the Blizzard of Oz is not accurate. The Original band consisted of Randy, Ozzy, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake. Also, they did indeed tour the States before the release of Diary. I saw them in Syr NY in late April ‘81.
And the egregious issue the crash was March 19th. But yes the Blizzard of ozz tour happened from April though middle of September. Then headed to Europe to start the Diary tour. Bluzzard of ozz recorded the two albums as you said with Bob and Lee

This happened across the street from me. I was off work that day, and kept hearing the plane buzz above the tall pines. I heard the explosion, then saw the fireball. I called it in to the Leesburg Fire Department. Had no idea who it was at the time. The Calhoons owned the ranch, and had many amazing busses, that hauled rock stars.

Horrifyingly, said Rudy Sarzo that on the plane's last pass, he saw what he thought was a physical struggle in the cockpit... and the plane was bucking right and left before it impacted the bus
So many senseless accidents and deaths. I’m sure he was fighting to get him to stop scaring his friend. Randy didn’t crash the plane. I always think of what we lost more than what they accomplished. That sentiment hit me as a 19 yr old when John Lennon got murdered.
I was able to see Ozzy perform with Rhodes in Kansas City January 1982. I remember a friend telling of this bizarre plane crash. I think Ayecock was coked out of his mind and ignored all common sense. Rachel Youngblood had a heart condition. Come on man!
I know there were a couple of albums with early Quiet Riot, but the reality: there are only two albums considered Randy's main body of work. And those two albums are considered masterpieces. Randy inspired countless millions and be was only 25 when he passed.
He created Quiet Riot with his friend and too many people don't realize that. Some who hear he was in Quiet Riot think he was just a guitarist for a short time not realizing he founded the band.
“Kiss a me” what? Besides the mispronunciation by the humble narrator, it’s amazing what a bad egg Aycock was. He may have been a nice person, which I doubt but you never know, but he really let himself go. No current pilots license, the whole stealing of an an airplane thing, his cocaine abuse issue, not to mention the poor hairdresser told him she had heart problems. What it boiled down to was one of the most talented musicians of the era was killed. Makes no sense.
I was born that day 😔 Randy died on March 19th. Everyone gathers at his grave then. I've been twice. Last time, I was lucky enough to meet with and speak to the Rhoads family.

I was able to see Ozzy perform with Rhodes in Kansas City January 1982. I remember a friend telling of this bizarre plane crash. I think Ayecock was coked out of his mind and ignored all common sense. Rachel Youngblood had a heart condition. Come on man!
I know there were a couple of albums with early Quiet Riot, but the reality: there are only two albums considered Randy's main body of work. And those two albums are considered masterpieces. Randy inspired countless millions and be was only 25 when he passed.

He created Quiet Riot with his friend and too many people don't realize that. Some who hear he was in Quiet Riot think he was just a guitarist for a short time not realizing he founded the band.

“Kiss a me” what? Besides the mispronunciation by the humble narrator, it’s amazing what a bad egg Aycock was. He may have been a nice person, which I doubt but you never know, but he really let himself go. No current pilots license, the whole stealing of an an airplane thing, his cocaine abuse issue, not to mention the poor hairdresser told him she had heart problems. What it boiled down to was one of the most talented musicians of the era was killed. Makes no sense.

Randy died on March 19th. Everyone gathers at his grave then. I've been twice. Last time, I was lucky enough to meet with and speak to the Rhoads family.

When flying, altitude is your friend, unless the aircraft is on fire. Low altitude buzzing of people on the ground is not advisable, especially after doing lines!

Quiet Riot was the first concert i ever went to on 4th of July 06. Dubrow and Frankie have since passed.
My father was born just a few days after this incident. His mother watched the news on this as she was pregnant with him. Pretty bad situation. R.I.P.

3rd Class medical certificates needed to be done every 2 years in 1982 not 1 year. 2nd class needed to be done every year. 1st class every 6 months.
