This does remind me, though. A few years ago, I remember raising this other observation of how the Eucharist involves Christ literally feeding the Church with his own flesh and blood. While I see how the Eucharist can easily be likened to a bridegroom's gift of bodily self, a human mother also directly feeds her children with her own body, through the blood of her placenta and the milk formed also formed from her own flesh and blood.
So I wondered if, to an extent, that aspect could also be somewhat likened to a maternal love, even though a paternal love is typically the more applicable symbol to God's love in theology. West did say that God the Son also acts receptively like a bride to God the Father's bridegroom, before then passing that on to us.

Thank you for your honest comment @markcobuzzi826 ! The bridal analogy, like any other analogy, falls short of the Trinitarian Mystery. That being said, Christopher does take a deep dive into some of the themes you brought up in his last book "Eating the Sunrise." Great explanation, I will add we need to embrace godly masculinity in the body of Christ, the wild men, the warrior. I see over feminisation of Men, passivity etc. Masculinity is Good and much needed.

When I was a teenager, a good priest told us, that whether we are male or female, we have both masculine characteristics and feminine characteristics (e.g. gentleness) because we are born from a father and a mother. If a male doesn't have any feminine characteristics, then there will be something wrong.

Thanks for explaining this. I always wondered about it. I loved that you called Jesus the epitome of masculinity and that he also receives the Fathers love. I want to be like Jesus, and he indeed was receptive and gentle at times, at other times he was a strong man.

Hey Christopher, I think this point is made beautifully when we say the second versicle of the Angelus, Mary’s words, Ecce Ancilla Domini - “Behold, [I am] the Handmaid of the Lord.” My practice is always to open my hands a little to reflect this openness and to identify with Mary’s Fiat - her Yes - to God. In saying that line we realise that we must receive the Incarnate one in obedience so that he is born in us. Even as a man this is the needful response of the anima, the pnuema, our soul (which in Latin and Greek is always feminine in gender).

Hello, Christopher, could you maybe talk about the concept that some call "feminine and masculine energy" and tell us if the youtuber have something right about the male and female condition (and are basically talking about the teology of the body but without the catholic context)? Or maybe explain what do they have wrong? I would find it very helpful.

Thank you for this video! As someone discerning priesthood, I think this gives a great starting point to understanding the spousal relationship with Christ, and I’d love to see how this concept is then applied to a priest being wedded to the church. It definitely seems easier for religious nuns & sisters to embrace the spousal relationship as a bride of Christ (one I know calls the cathedral she took her final vows in as “the place I got hitched” haha), but this video is a great reminder that understanding the love story between God and humanity primes the love story in our lives regardless of our vocation.

That's awesome that you're discerning, brother! Count on our prayers and check this video on the priesthood that might give you a deeper insight into the Bridegroom-Church reality: ua-cam.com/video/hdxNlfgOOUo/v-deo.html
Also definitely consider coming to our Theology of the Body 1: Head & Heart Immersion Course in Pennsylvania or taking it online. We have tons of dioceses and religious orders that have their seminarians take the course in order to deepen their discernment. We have scholarships available. tobinstitute.org/programs/tobi-schedule/

Hello Christopher. This reflection makes me wonder wether the fact that in romantic relationships and in the sexual act itself, the woman needs to be chased and conquered through the man giving himself, and loving and embracing her, may also be a reflection of the love story that christ lives with the humanity. Christ chases, conquers and loves us in our hearts and we need to be open to receiving him to get to heaven and live our true nature. I don't know if you could say something about this....

the bride of Christ is one woman. the second Eve. just like Jesus is the second Adam, this woman coming in the end time is the second eve, his sister his spouse, his wife. The spirit and the Bride say come in Revelation, I hope this helps someone understand

He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers
    He puts on women's clothing
    And hangs around in bars...
He cuts down trees, He wears high heels
    Suspenders and a bra
He wishes he was a girlie
    Just like his dear papa

Hahaha😂 Since the apostles were all men, it never occured to me that men would be uncomfortable with the bridal imagery of the church in the scriptures.

A sexuality run amok turned everything incredibly gay.
Even as a symbol of apotheosis, this feels incredibly obnoxious, since its context is aplicable to the spousal condition.
      Really relatable 😑
