25 contemporary and diverse artists engaged in an “artistic dialogue” in 2,000 square meters building in the center of Athens to challenge the #Inertia. Sculptures, installations, murals, performances, compositions, created together a special momentum, an atmosphere where art transformed a so-far inactive urban space into a place of life, during an unprecedented period, emphasizing that art stays alive under any circumstances.

    curator's statement:
The term inertia, in physics, refers to the ability of bodies to resist any change of their kinetic state. The denial to adapt to a new situation characterizes all bodies. Inaction penetrates the era and its totality, creating an extensive crack in the already dysfunctional system, which in turn is reflected in the state of mind of the whole. The most inactive functions of society, including that of culture, form the image of a new reality, characterized by total enslavement of both art and artists. The creator, through one’s work, for the sake of one’s way of thinking, feeling, and empathy, their will, and ingenuity, designs, imagines and dares to create new realities, which are then transformed into the necessary details for a creative internal conflict of society with her past and at the same time, details that are vital to the individual in the present. A silent world, without artists and a trace of meaning, unfolds in front of us, as the artistic spectrum is being fought, deprived, and disoriented. This turn redefines the artist and his role in society. A society is considered sustainable only when it manages to exist for many generations, while focused on the big picture staying flexible and self-corrective.
During the lockdown, we were unintentionally given "time", a priceless opportunity to have a conversation and deepen communication with ourselves. This inwards action created an inverse outwards action, towards the existent and the aspect of human existence. In the present exhibition, this “time” is embodied and spotlighted through the prism of 25 contemporary artists in an area of 2,000 square meters, in the center of Athens. In a period of an intense suppression, where physical activity is suspending, the action "inertia" is released from the imposition of digital life and manages in a natural space to demystify the timeless and universal fear, declaring a sensory "present".
This art project is the result of a beautiful collaboration between The Krank and Okupa, where the latter opened the doors of its building, still under-construction, to artists and creator so they can challenge the inertia.
    About TheKrank:
The Krank is the signature of the anonymous visual artist (b. 1988, Greece) who lives and creates between Athens and Berlin. His artistic journey began in 2002 through graffiti, painting in the urban environment and redefined in 2009 after his studies in fine and applied arts. In 2013 he left Athens and reintroduced himself as The Krank, which in German means “sick”. Since then, he is expressing his worldview though the creation of stringent black-and-white paintings, sculptures, large scale murals and art installations. At the same time he is curating group exhibitions in industrial and abandoned buildings, giving a new perspective in the way of presenting art and reusing an old space. With more than 40 art exhibitions and performances across Europe (Museum of Colours - Berlin 2016, House of World Cultures - Berlin 2016, Anomalie Art Club - Berlin 2017, Documenta Halle - Kassel 2017, Urban spree gallery - Berlin 2018, KKL Luzern (Culture and Congress Center) - Luzern 2018, Monumenta - Leipzig 2018, MAD - Brussels 2018, RÄUME 2 - Berlin Art Week 2018, Benhadj & Djilali Museum - Berlin 2019, World Conference Center - Bonn 2019, Museum of Now - Berlin 2020 and more), his artworks belong to private art collections in Tokyo, Zurich, Luzern, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Athens, Rotterdam, Seattle etc and to The Solar Panel Art Series (project of Olafur Eliasson) and MON Collection of Contemporary Art.
