His fear of being hit by a vehicle while near the road comes true 6 years after he did this talk.
I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. If I'm honest more than a few chapters at a time. But i digress. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Mr. King is the one who told us He had a problem. He's overcome His addictions and is a better man for it. Also from what i see and hear His kids are well adjusted human beings. Be like Stephen King!
What are the books of his that most saved your sanity? I love SK and he’s currently saving mine, at age 50. I’d love to know your favorites.
What's your favorite short story of his?
King is great! Fun to listen to. One of a kind.

This might be the coolest video yet. A lot of his other talks rehash a lot of the same things, same jokes. Understandable because he does a lot of them of course but always such a pleasure to find one that has completely new information, like this about 'Salems Lot and Blaze

@@moniquedurant32 How does it make sense to call him "professionally generous"? Think of what the adjective is modifying; you are implying a class of people who are "amateurishly generous" by contrast, which is absurd. He's a writer. Diction like this is important to him.

I'm pretty new to Stephen King. I didn't think I was smart enough to read his stories. I'm glad I did pick up my first King book. (11.22.63) I can't get enough of books and talks on UA-cam. I'm subscribed to the radio station he owns out of Maine. I haven't read it yet, but I do have his novel "You Like It Darker." I am currently reading "Mr. Mercedes."

You Like It Darker is my first of his short story collections and, though I'm only on the first one, I'm enjoying it. My first King was Pet Sematary and you really do never forget your first. Many good wishes and happy reading. Enjoy the ride!

I grew up in a home where there was little reading. But when I grew up, there was no internet, and we got 3 channels on the black and white TV. So I used to read. The library became my entertainment. I always had a library book checked out!

39:43 He's righter than you realize. I know a girl who was drinking with friends late and was told to sleep in the guest bedroom rather than drive home. Little did she or the home-owner know that one of his old high school friends had been down on his luck and sleeping under that bed for weeks, sneaking in and out of the house, because he knew his friend's schedule of working nights at a restaurant. So when the girl walked in the room and put the light on, he calmly crawled out from under the bed and walked past her down the stairs and out of the house. King knows. This shit happens.

I sometimes wonder, with all the writing and appearances that King makes; Does Stephen King ever just take 3 or 4 months off and go somewhere like Tuscany, Italy rent a villa and relax?

He does not. He writes every day. Hence 56 novels and 6 collections.

He told a story about going to England and on the flight he had a nightmare. This gave him the idea for the book Misery and when he landed he wrote like the first three chapters immediately. So I don’t think he CAN take a vacation LOL

If Stephen King was just starting now, would he self Publish?
Possibly, but he had a great deal very early on: he was 50/50 with Doubleday. I'm pretty sure he's maintained that throughout his career (if not better), with both hardcover and mass market releases. Tough to beat that split.
***** Maybe, but not necessarily. He would have to pay for an editor, cover artist, and someone to coordinate with television, radio, podcasts, et cetera (marketing, in other words). You're also ignoring the fact that many of his readers prefer physical books and wouldn't buy e-books. His younger readers might prefer e-books, but his core readership is 45+. Most authors would do well to self-publish but not legacy authors.
