    The voice that broke down all barriers; the voice of freedom; that declared I'm here and you'll have to recognize that I matter. He's still here, over 80, but Forever Young, still active. I just can't imagine a world without Bob Dylan .....

    You did an amazing job grasping the essence of this truly historic song. It changed popular music forever. Now, imagine hearing this in a live performance by Dylan at the Hollywood Bowl in 1965! Anyway, great reaction video! I felt like I was hearing this song through your ears for the first time…again. Thank you from an old man living in the small town (Duluth, Minnesota) where Bob Dylan was born.

    One of his best songs! Thanks for not pausing it. Most of my generation first heard new songs on the radio and didn't have the luxury of pausing or rewinding. Other Dylan songs I recommend: "Rainy Day Women", "Lay Lady Lay", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Tweeter and the Monkeyman" with The Traveling Wilburys (George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne (of ELO) and Tom Petty).

      And to imagine the organ (Hammon B3) was an experiment because Al did not play the organ, or the relatively new B3. Soooo amazing. It was a post-session overdub but had worked well in some of the later rehearsals. For me, this energizes the whole song and brought Dylan's music to the Rock forefront - yet it's still a folk song.

    • @davidbronstein2745
      @davidbronstein2745 12 днів тому

      @@bitfenix90 That's interesting, seeing it that way, it is connected to him going electic. Makes sense to me. Part of the same sound. The organ became a staple for the rest of his career. And of course u have bands like the doors that make it their bread and butter.

    • @bitfenix90
      @bitfenix90 12 днів тому

      @@davidbronstein2745 I always wonder how many music lessons that celebrities have, endure, etc? I know a lot learn studio gear... some hired guitar teachers and keyboard teachers, etc. I know there are tales that Dylan's Nashville sessions were prolonged because he was learning more and more techniques. And Nashville was far from the spotlight for Dylan's rock/folkie audiences - did he feel safer in a 'mere' student role? If session musicians were often 'teachers', I'll be few - anywhere - LA, NYC, etc - would ever divulge, "Yes, This Star was such a noob and I have to teach him everything-!" No session player who made that public would find studios willing to hire them again. But obviously there are safe-havens - session musicians? - that helped.

    This is my favorite Bob Dylan song, and consider it a timeless classic. It tells a great story, has amazing lyrics that rhyme perfectly, a nice melody, and the vocals and instrumentation are perfect for the song. In my opinion, Bob Dylan has a very good voice and tone for his songs. His intonation is fabulous, and help make his songs so great. The instrument you were referring to is a harmonica, and it is very common in rock songs from the 60's, and 70's. Great choice of song, and I hope you react to more Bob Dylan songs.

    If you dig into Dylan's first albums, you won't hear this style of music. His was far more sparse, almost tone-less and more like the New York City folk style. Dylan was trying to expand his musical audience AND at the same time learning more keyboards and electric guitar skills. His first 3 albums followed his folkie-reputation, with a few 'strays' into new styles. His next album BRINGING IT ALL HOME had stronger electric/rock entries and this album HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED solidified with this #1 Rock song.
    He is, by the way, an Album Artist, not a singles artist. Folks can pick and choose one or two songs but fans who want to learn about Dylan's music do not cheat themselves by only listening to a few 'hits'. They devour whole albums, and for a longer stretches of time - weeks and months each.

      Regardless, Diamonds and Rust was a great album for Baez and her first big hit since her cover of The Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". Maybe some thought it was a diss because it was near the same time as Dylan's Blood On the Tracks. The song is a critic of the beat nick/ hippy culture of the 60s , it asks these mostly wasp kids the question of what they are going to do with all the change they are demanding,hence the line "how does it feel to be on your own, with no direction home ,like a rolling stone" . Listened to in this context all the lyrics become self evident .

    Yes, but in the end, it comes full circle. "When ya ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose. You're invisible now, ya got no secrets to conceal." Dylan's lyrics reflect the freedom that comes from having nothing left to lose, leading to a chance for genuine self-discovery. When everything is stripped away, the fear of further loss disappears, allowing for a fresh start without the burdens of past mistakes or expectations. This highlights the paradoxical comfort in hitting rock bottom, where the absence of external pressures and ego-driven pursuits can lead to true personal growth and a more authentic life.
