  • This car is...insane. A fiberglass body covering an off-the-shelf 1980s Chrysler turbo 4 cylinder created by a genius who ran for US Senate...how on earth could I turn down the opportunity to drive this wonder, even if it was 95 degrees out? You DON'T want to miss this one!

    Chryslers 2.2 Turbo is a great 4 cyl. Makes the same HP as TQ, and aside from headgasket issues, is very bulletproof. Engineered by the same man behind the Slant 6.

      I built an Omni 25 years ago with this engine, it made around 320 hp reliably. I raced that car for 20 years, it weight 2300 lbs and ran 12 second 1/4 mile times. These engines were tough.

    Those tail lamps look like they're off of a late 70's to early 80's ElCamino or A/G Body station wagon.

      Very true. The sideways mounting threw me off.

    30 years ago guys were getting 300 horses out of those 2.2 engines with just minimal tweaking. I'll bet that would have been a blast.

      There is so much aftermarket for the 2.2. 400hp is easy nowadays and they are bulletproof. Rarer cylinder where the hp and tq are equal.

    A red 1990 Mosler Consulier sold on eBay in December of 2015 for $28k. Maybe it's time for Doug to find one of these to add to his fleet of vehicles.
    Because it is so rare, I wonder what the cost to insure this car would be.

    I've always had an interest in the Consuliers. I seem to remember there being a minivan based on it. Probably a 1 of 1 deal, but a fascinating piece of automotive history regardless.
    I'd love to see the Twinstar in action. We talked about it some on the Riviera Performance forum (same chassis). Everyone wishes the 8th gen Riviera had been rwd, but no one has figured out how to convert it yet. It would be amusing to have a 2nd SC 3800 back there. There are turbo kits to take the NA motor up to 600 hp - that would be one cheap way to experiece Veyron levels of power.

    • @DougsCars
      @DougsCars  3 роки тому

      I’ve been trying to get the somewhat reclusive owner (through a proxy) to let me film the TwinStar…well, the Consulier happened, so anything’s possible. And I agree, that final gen Riv with RWD would be a blast!

    it is pronounced Con Sue Lee ER, it is a made up word that means nothing. Not a fiberglass car, it is mix of fiberglass, carbon and kevlar. first production car ever made with a carbon monocoque, tail lights are from an el camino, some cars have ebrake on left (like the one you drove) others have the ebrake in the traditional center location like mine. The roof on the targas are terrible, the car has very little insulation so it is loud, The AC only works from dusk to dawn. Next time im up near you (or you in palm beach) Ill let you drive mine with about 100 more hp than the one you drove here.

    That's NOT a Mosler, Chump. It's a "Consulier GTP".
    It's title does not have "Mosler" anywhere on it.
