Alison Balsom performing Allegro, from Concerto in D for Trumpet and Organ by J S Bach, [after Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in D] at the University of Leicester Degree congregation on 17th July 2015.
This film was produced by External Relations, University of Leicester.
Edited by Carl Vivian
I love the way she practically dances through the performance. it is real to her.
Y... Con esa música bailas a menos que seas de hielo. Jajajaja. Saludos
This an extraordinary piece, especially as she is performing with a Piccolo Trumpet. Marvellous
That must have been the professor on the organ. My goodness, the perfection in her notes and clarity in the pitch and the ramblin Rose Organist. Great musician she is.😊
Alison =Stunningly great! 😊
Organist = ⁉️😕
I believe this organist actually achieved the unachievable feat of playing FLAT!
A virtuosal piece, especially for a trumpet. Almost unbelievable that she played it flawlessly with a trumpet!
I guess they didn’t post the movement where Alison throws her trumpet at the dreadful organist
Did his best bless him. Pretty daunting
Was it real? Alison throwing her trumpet at the organist?! 😱
The organist should really practice with a metronome and know the delay of the organ's touch to sound. There are sometimes not enough hours in the week, but for something like this, I'd prepare a month in advance.
The $5,000 piccolo? Probably not.
@@yannislee2344 was just being sarcastic
I came down to the comments to see if anyone else noticed the organist. You all did not disappoint.
C'est surtout le mixage qui est déséquilibré, on entend trop l'orgue
What a bizarre way to play the organ. Usually people play with their fingers and feet, not their fists and boots mashing as many keys as possible. Kudos to Alison for somehow saving this.
hahaaha hahahaha
Be sure to let out know when you put out the video of you playing the organ better
@@slasherman03 I do not play the organ, but like any rational musician I can tell when someone is clearly not fit to accompany a trumpeter as talented as Alison.
And I thought it was me lacking musical ear, but I realized that something was amiss with the pipe organ piece
When you practice with a metronome and your accompaniment just has no clue of consistent tempo...
Some of those scales in the organ sounded like they were rolling their face on the keyboard...
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I was thinking the organ sounded like soup, but am not enough of a musician to be sure.
Oh thank god I wasnt the only one who noticed.
HAHAHAHAHA
I've got a "folkstring" instrument ear; glad to hear I wasn't the only listener wondering what the sam hill the organist was doing. Thought well, maybe I been away from a metronome for a while and the player surely knows what's what...
I think part of it has to do with the organ itself, I have heard that the organ is so dreadful to play.
Bravo University of Leicester - from a Newcastle University academic. And Ms Balsom is always such a pleasure to hear.
Lady what articulation, what a virtuoso performance! You can afford to 'blow your own trumpet'.
Bravo, dear madam!
Ella con su trompetita. Genia total.
Gracias por tu trabajo. Saludos
My lips and tongue are tired just listening. This is extraordinary!
うますぎ……
細かい音がすんごい明確だし跳躍めちゃくちゃきれい
This is the best Allegro I ever heard!
Beautiful!
hahahhaa. We'll hire a world renown trumpet soloist and then uh.... yeah the local anglican church organist to play accompaniment should do. How hard can just the background be??

Absolutely soul stirring! 🤗
this is Vivaldi, it is not Bach (arranged by Bach after Vivaldi)
I've watched this many times. A little "out of breath" sometimes, but still stellar performance.
What am emence talent this lady is ... Privlage to see her artistry.
Alison Balsom...
...and her Magical Hats.
Organ player got his boxing gloves on ......And divers boots on too
Beautiful trumpet playing 🎺🎺🎺
너무 아름다운 멜리 감사합니다
Not at her best? Have you played this beast? It is awesome hard! She has a great sound, intonation and pitch while playing really fast on a very difficult horn! C'mon!
"not at her best means" simply, that she can play it way better than here. still, she plays even on this record much better than the average trumpeters
me mattia No, the venue is GOD AWFUL. She played it amazingly!!!
You have to hold it in place, switch keys and blow hard and keep up.🐣👍👍👍🌹

Fantástica essa mulher. Sou trompetista e sei o quanto ela estudou, estuda e treina para chegar à essa perfeição.
Fabulous performance !
Very fine, one of the best things I've heard from Bach.
in fact it is not by Bach
Try the German brass edition
Bravo! In these dark times one has aprieciate beauty where ever and when ever one finds it. That 2.5 minutes just brightened my week immeasurably! Thank you.
Amazing performer!!
Талантливая девушка!! Меня до слёз пробивает
Perfect sound! wonderful! What a nice music! her rich music makes me happy. I love her trumpet sound. She is the NO.1woman solo trumpet player in the world.
You rarely see anyone dancing to the classical music except here you do!
Classical music was originally largely dance music until at some point relatively recently people decided to sit still and silent instead. It sucks.
@@AndyChamberlainMusic you may be right! Never thought about this until now.
@@dosetti Some of it absolutely was meant for dancing. Some of it was music in the style of dance music but not actually intended for dancing.

Even with a terrible organist she still delivers music...
Very beautiful performance. One small correction, concerto not by JS Bach but by it was composed by Antonio Vivaldi. It was transcribed by JS Bach
Yes, these concertos are often called Vivaldi-Bach in English.
Vogliate accettare il Nostro più sentito grazie per questa incanto di musica, bellissima incantevole magnifica nel duetto.
I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I was so caught up in Ms. Balsom's virtuoso performance and feminine charm that I hardly noticed the organ.
Get a grip, dude. She's standing there playing a trumpet. That's not feminine charm.
@@numbereightyseven Charm- (noun) A power of pleasing or attracting, as through personality or beauty (charm of manner) or a trait or feature imparting this power or (Verb...used with object) to delight or please greatly by beauty, etc. , enchant. Or, a physical grace or attraction (her feminine charms). Ms. Balsom's performance is at a level only very accomplished musicians can muster (this takes years of dedicated work/discipline/intellect). She is also lovely to watch as (at times) she moves in rhythm to the tempo the work is written in and (IMHO) possess a beautiful face and a warm, enchanting smile (at the end of her performance). Furthermore, if you think she is simply "standing their playing a trumpet", than you need to go back to watching/listening to Wu Tang Clan (and that sort) were dedication of work, discipline and intellect are not so much a requirement, dude.
Balsom is a damn good reason to have both good ears and good eyes - a damn fine trumpeter and a very fine looking woman. ❤
Christopher Woulfe you’re all weirdos
Still Bill This comment could be construed as kind of creepy for a lot of reasons, but picking on a another art form because you have only ever studied old white men in your life(no hate, I too am studying old white men at a conservatory) is just ignorant and makes you sound stupid. You sound like the classical musicians who believe that jazz is an “inferior art form” because it goes against everything that classical musicians are trained to do. Just because people practice different styles than you(that’s right, believe it or not, it takes a lot of practice and dedication to your art to be like Wu Tang Clan) doesn’t make them any less than an art that you practice, and it certainly doesn’t give you the right to use it as a point of comparison as to why this particular soloist is superior to all other musical art forms that you don’t respect.
Fabulous.
Um dos melhores 2 minutos de minha vida! nota 10 em tudo no vídeo!
Since I heard you for the first time, have always admired you/. Prime tecniqe and tone/.
And that is how it’s done! Outstanding Post of this remarkable performance!
Wish somebody was smiling... This is too good to just sit there. Ho Hum.
the entire performance was magnificentr but the triple tongueing was out of this world.
…such a clean sound from Alison …..terrific..
Great perfomance Bravissimo !!!!!!!!
Sou fã da Alison Balsom toca magistralmente!!!
She is great!
Tank U Alison very good !
Quelle aisance !!!
Magnifique.
Her choreography is amazing. 🙂
I enjoy her performances.
All I can find on-line by her seem to be the OLD stand-bys like the Hayden Trumpet concerto, lots of renaissance works etc.
Does she perform any more "contemporary" pieces such any of the Fischer Tull works etc?
I can "hum" the Haydn from memory......

Viva la música !!!
I just now heard this amazing trumpet performer, musician, artists......for the first time. Alison Balsom, you have a new fan.
PS.....was there another instrument playing? No. Not really.
So much talent!
MANY THANKS.
Thank you
Not only is she extremely talented, she is absolutely gorgeous !!!
Bravissimo! Excellente! Phenomenal! Long Live Alison Balsom! Long Live the Queen!!!
No questions. None. Bravo.
Bear in mind this is supposed to be played on the natural trumpet. The little trumpet is a help in some ways as you have valves for the fiddly bits and the upper notes are a bit more accessible but the downside of the little trumpet sound is somewhat exposed in this recording. Swathed in a sweltering academic gown just to make her more comfortable.
"This is supposed to be played on the natural trumpet."
No, this wasn't written for trumpet to begin with.
If it is possible to witness this performance and not fall in love with Baroque music (not to mention the performer), it must only be so for the blind and hearing impaired.
Arranged by Bach for a harpsichord or organ about Concertos or Trio Sonatas that works of the Vivaldi or Marcello and other same era Italian composers. I don't understand why this version of today's modern trumpet arrangement is introduced as Bach's arrangement, although the BWV 972 that arranged by Bach from Vivaldi's violin concerto No. 9 in D major, RV 230 - Op.3, is only for "harpsichord solo"
Luv it! Such precision! 🎺
Man I love this woman... She's so talented
Fantastic!!!
That little round out at the end is a classic “thank goodness that’s over” musician’s sign...
Non vorrei sbagliare ma questo è uno dei concerti di VIVALDI trascritti da Bach. Unicuique suum tribuere.
Are trumpets always that small? I doubt it but is that like a soprano
Du grand art ;c est absolument magnifique .; c est digne d une virtuose
Oh to see the look she gave that organist at 0:53
Allison sei straordinaria
Bravissimo!!!!
Wait Leicester get Allison balsom in their graduation?
I think Alison is one of the best trumpeters our time but the accustics of the hall and organist aren’t in German “Das gelbe vom Ei”.
Bach was a mad lad
너무 아름다운 멜러디
잘들엇읍니다.
Thank You
Bravo trumpet
Beautiful.
this is probably a quick gig, the organist is seriouly lousy, perharps didnt know the organ well, delays, wrong notes...I think alison is doing a great job to accompany that organist. Also piccolo trumpets doesnt always have a great polished sound. its not always what a recording sound like.
Bloody amazing
Very nice, and the music 😚
trompétiste de mon ame mon impossible amour merci
she is insanely good, anyone who has or does play trumpet knows the tension required to play this..and knows they wouldnt have it. Superb and accidently she is quite beautiful......I would be happy to play a duet.....and i might bring me trumpet he he.
Piękny strój ....
