CBMM10 Panel: Language and Thought

Is natural language the language of thought? LLMs as models of human language and thought. Are LLMs aligned with neuroscience and with human behavior? What is still missing?

My summary notes (please feel free to correct me if anything wrong):
Spelke - animal Vs. human babies in learning languages, also very different from LLMs (babies learned beginning from core knowledge).
Fedorenko - language may not be a necessary component for thoughts?
Ullman - logical structures to link vision to language.
Isola - LLMs based on not only natural language but more of internet texts, may be a good intermediate tool for other task -> language may help thoughts, as a general representation of the world?
Gershman - is LLMs a different path that can bypass issues of human language learning such as the social (agent) component to solve problems related to thoughts?

We have researched on this subject since 2018, and aligning this to our rapid prototyping solution. Including AI generated prototypes. Across all subjects to enable ASI stage later on.
