- Take Hold of the Flame by Queensrÿche is maybe our most requested to date by our subscribers and by posters. We added a little bonus to this one when Burch showed Steph a photo he took of Eddie Jackson, the bass player and the one the band uses for his birthday social media post every year. If you enjoy our video please like the video and subscribe to our channel. If you have any suggestions for artists you would like to see us react to, please post it in the comments section.

The Empire tour where they played Operation Mindcrime in its entirety is still the best concert I've ever seen.
That tour was the only time I saw Queensryche and it was amazing - Mindcrime is a masterpiece.
I agree! They were at their absolute perfection!!! Wish I could send you my pics when I met them on that tour! ❤️🤘😁
I was there too at the Winnipeg Canada 🇨🇦 concert, amazing musicianship
Was there, agreed. It was one of my favorite concerts of all time. Drove 300 miles, (6 hours) in 3 hrs and 15 min. to see them play.
I totally agree with you
Can't underestimate Chris Degarmos' backing vocals,& his guitar playing.
Maybe the most overlooked piece of the QR magic. DeGarmo was just a diamond in all phases.
And his solid songwriting skills!
I think Scott's drumming is the most overlooked piece of the QR magic. I mean, those triples. Nobody mentions the drumming in this live clip.
@@bluebehir
You're right. Drums are my favorite instrument, and Scott's drumming IS pure magic! He was a complete beast in this video, and on the whole concert!
I don't know the proper technical words to describe the things I love about his drumming, but it's always unique with unexpected bits that really make the song! He frequently incorporates unusual rhythms and fills that are just killer! I LOVE energetic and inventive drummers, and he's the best, imo!
Every time I see someone react to this, I say exactly that. Chris was the heart and soul of the band, without a doubt.
The greatest live in concert vocal performance ever. Back then no one could even begin to even think about matching his vocal abilities.
except this is the studio recording, any real fan would know this
Steelheart ftw.
Excellent reaction. I’m 52 now, and back in the day went from playing on stage to photography. QR, Maiden, Priest, etc all my hero’s. QR didn’t get their due for how special they were. The talent far outweighed most bands back then and Tate live?….legendary. So glad Stef is able to appreciate this so many years later. 😎👍🏼
Well, I'm 57 now from South Florida operation Minecraft queensrÿche. What an album. Oh my God Jeff is a great singer. I'm glad he's still with the van One great f****** band I've seen in myself live. Oh my god they're great!
I am just 27 yrs old. In 2013 I've been to a festival where Queensryche played. Same day I watched Dokken, Ratt, White Snake and Aerosmith.
I had never heard about Queensryche before. But I remember when Tate started singing my jaw just dropped. I remember I thought "This guy can actually sing".
The way he could control his voice and project it so so easily was mind blowing.
I had the chance to watch him sing on Avantasia 2 more times and his voice still gives me the chills.
I was fortunate enough to see queensryche a couple of times, Including the empire tour, when they were huge. Saw them in a larger arena in the 1990s. Great band and fantastic vocals. Around the same time, even though they were pretty popular at the time, I got to see Dokken locally, at a smaller hall that held at most 3000 people. I don't know whether it was the area or lack of advertising, but there were only about 50 people there. I felt bad for the band but it was amazing getting an almost private show, right up close and next to the stage.
Sorry to say mate Tate left the band in 2012 so if you seen them in 2013 it would of been todd Latorre on vocals then.
@@shanerobinswpr7027 I didn’t know he had left the band one year before, but it was definitely him I saw
Here:
ua-cam.com/video/hZ0M5kPKVHw/v-deo.html
Maybe he just did this festival to fulfill the contract
@@kelvinize Yer good point mate could of been. Must been right before he left. Simon Wright is on drums as well not Scott. So yer i stand corrected cheers.
@@kelvinize That was just Geoff Tate, after he left Queensryche (he was fired 2012). During that time (2013), there was still a dispute of band name use between Tate and the other members of Queensryche. Notice that you will not see Wilson, Jackson, or Rockenfield in that clip. It's just Tate and some other guys he brought on for his solo tour.
ROADS TO MADNESS is my personal favorite song. The 10-minute Album Version leaves me in goosebumps
Yes!!! Geoff's finest vocal moment IMO
MindMaze (prog/power metal band out of Allentown, PA) does a very respectable cover of Roads T Madness. I believe it's here on youtube.
Absolutely an amazing song!
a lot of people didn't "get" Queensrÿche initially... so glad they are getting their just praise these days.... what a great band...
What you need to know about this particular performance is, this was the 7th song of a 2nd set played THAT NIGHT. Geoff had already been singing for about 1.5 hours the night this was recorded. Amazing wind. I'm winded just thinking about that.
you know OPERATION MINDCRIME IN IT'S ENTIRETY is in your future !!!! Love the boys from Bellevue - PNW represent !!! So many amazing songs to share with her, excited to see the next one 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Tate was and still is one of the greatest voices ever. It was so simple and effortless for him. Absolutely amazing. Eyes of a Stranger is one of my all time favorite songs of any genre! There are not many bands that can step on stage and emulate the quality of the studio sound. These guys did it and it was incredible.
Geoff does grow his hair out soon after this, another great but underrated toon is "Anybody Listening" and the most popular "Silent Lucidity" Queensryche is a great rabbit hole to jump into at anything off the first 5 or 6 albums
Anybody listening is an amazing song
Best band ever, in my opinion! Geoff is beyond amazing! Amazing you had the chance to take their photographs during the concerts. So effing cool, man. Love watching the reactions of new people getting into this band for the first time! Awesome.
Just watched Geoff here in Brazil two weeks ago. He still can sing. Thanks for the reaction.
I've been a Queensryche fan since the 206 Records EP days which is signed by all 5 original members and I still have it. I've met the original line up many times, including Chris DeGarmo from back in the day from my time working at a rock radio station. I still talk with Michael Wilton from time to time. The entire band is amazing. Geoff Tate was (and still is to some degree) an amazing vocalist.
KISW?
@@HammernFrank I didn't live in Seattle at the time back then. I was at KNAC down in Los Angeles, technically Long Beach is where the station was located.
@@geekwithsocialskills Awesome! LA Metal scene during the 80’s had to be wild. I was in Seattle in the 80’s and got to meet the band members around town at random times and places.
@@HammernFrank Indeed. The stories and pictures I have LOL. I'm surprised I'm still alive at times with all the partying I did back then. I show some of those pictures with Queensryche in a video about the EP. At some point I'll do more music related stuff.
Say hi to Micheal for me - that era of him and DeGarmo still rank to me like the best duel guitar sounds of any band - ever. Like Priest, Scorpions, even Maiden.
He's still singing and hitting these notes. That to me is insane!
He's still singing, indeed, but whether or not he's hitting these notes is certainly debatable. Recent clips (as recent as march 31st) of him singing this song, show him singing a modified, lower melody, and that E5 is nowhere to be found. I'm not saying he's not a still a good singer, but he's nowhere near his 80's level anymore, thanks to age, I assume.
If you take care of your health and have good vocalizing habits you can sing a long long time. Jagger is almost 80 years old. Same with Placido Domingo.
My absolute favorite singer from back in the day. You have to do more of them!!!
These dude's had a magical chemistry together its to bad that people can be so ill with one another miss the original line up.
Geoff Tate is a legend. Another one she would like I believe is the vocals on is the Scorpions “Still Loving You”.
You must show Steph 'Silent Lucidity'. Brilliant song. I love the whole Empire album.
I saw these guys 5 times live. Geoff Tate was and still is unbelievable. The entire band was fantastic.
Glad to see younger people reactions when they see this specific video. Great reaction thanks for watching this.
Someone was smitten with Geoff. The leering was funny to witness.
Ryche, FTW 🤘🏻
Geoff is a gift to all of us who are metal heads. He has what the vast majority of vocalists (both then and now) aren't fortunate enough to have....control, power, pitch, and range. It was as close to perfection as I, personally, have ever heard. This guy is a rock god who never got the notoriety and respect he deserved.
I'm personally a bigger Maiden fan than a Queensryche fan (both are class, but QR unfortunately fell off a little after Mindcrime). Anyways, getting to the point, Tate took what Dickinson had and added more clarity and range. The perfect Metal vocalist.
Queensryche was the best 80's band I seen them over 20 times great video
Thank you TS. Saw them in my teens in the mid 80s and have photographed them numerous times. Just have to witness it in person to get the feeling.
I loved Steph's reaction to Queensryche! It reminds me of how I felt the first time I heard them and then later when I saw them live. Queensryche's original lineup was magic! Please do more songs from Queensryche! I think Steph would enjoy seeing the "Queensryche - Live in Los Angeles (MTV Unplugged)" which is from 1992. Watching Queensryche perform acoustic versions of their songs truly showcases how brilliant they were live.
Eyes of a stranger LIVE @ Moore theatre needs to be next please. Wait till the last long note that lasts almost 30 seconds. It is amazing!
Another great one to view.....More than a Feeling! Brad's voice was so amazing with Boston.
Geoff Tate, has one of the most powerful voices in music!!!
Rage For Order was a fun ear candy album. Definitely hard to categorize!
Way ahead of its time,
Late to this video ......This whole concert is epic .....saw them a few times back in the 80s and Geoff was without a doubt the best vocalist back then
I always thought he resembled Elvis
Burch you the man. Using real camera's, the good ole days of photography. Steph you have beautiful long hair to headbang with, Burch I bet yours was longer then Stephs but, that came with the 80's and your job that I can only dream about.
Its amazing to think that the first two albums ( plus the EP ) were full of these belting vocals from start to finish...
The silent lucidity video is what drew me to them. Still, to this day, my fav song.
FYI - The band performed their set twice that day, this was the last song of the second set. Now chew on that one for a few. Geoff's voice was freakin bullet proof....hits notes on pitch and doesn't even waiver a cent...mind blowing!!!
Saw Queensryche and Dream Theater together. For the end if the show both bands including both drummers on stage at the same time was awesome!
🤘😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
So COOL that you got to do concert photos of them! I've seen them live and met them many times, and WHAT A BAND! Best live concerts I've EVER seen! And at Meet and Greets they were so friendly and took their time with you. Just a great bunch of guys!
This was an early concert of theirs, and even so they are so tight! Geoff was about 25 here, and the rest of the guys were about 20 and 21! Geoff IS super comfortable and natural on stage, and yes he is a bit theatrical, which I kinda love about him. He (and all of the band) really put their All into their concerts!
The original lineup, for me, will never be equalled again in musicianship, songwriting, VOCALS, or live performance!
And YES, the jacket and outfit IS cool. It was the 80's, come on! And I agree Geoff was handsome -- with tons of charisma!
Yes, the whole band was MAGIC!!
This song brings me back to driving my 260z cranking this song cruising the boardwalk. Sure do miss those days.
It's lovely revisiting these with you both. It's been YEARS since I heard some of these classics.
This brings a new level if happiness in watching this song.
So incredible you were able to enjoy such pristine unique moments!
Geoff is my idol, musically. Love this band. My favorite by far. Hurts they broke up, So many fond memories. Amazing chemistry.
You need to check out some Triumph live from Halifax!!! Awesome live. Drummer singing Follow Your Heart, Tears In The Rain, Allied Forces. To name a few. Lead guitarist sings Magic Power, Fight The Good Fight, Lay It On The Line. To name of few also. Any of those live at Halifax will do. Thank you and God Bless!!!
Geoff Tate in his prime, just incredible. Always gives me goosebumps.
I saw Queensryche on this tour when they open for KISS in NY a few months after this show in Tokyo. It was my first concert; I was 14.
I remember being in art class in 9th grade and a kid asked me if I'd trade him my Motley Crue 'Shout at the Devil' cassette for his Queensryche 'The Warning' cassette, and I said 'sure'. Had not yet heard them, I was really into Maiden after 'Piece of Mind' came out, and I will forever be grateful for making that trade. Became a huge fan, saw them live several times - my fave was Operation: Mindcrime at Red Rocks - love so much of their music. Thank you for the reaction.
I was at that show. Hard to beat Queensryche at Red Rocks.
Best live band ever
I saw them for the first time with Iron Maiden in Milwaukee, WI. I think it was 1984. I had never heard of them before and was blown away. They had just released the Warning album.
Now that is a show for the ages! Won't see the likes of that again.
She's into Geoff 😁
I had to put her quote at the front of the video 😁
I went and seen these guys in the early 80s when the only album they had out was there ep . And they're only song on MTV was Queen of the Reich. They were the opening act. And boy did they kick butt
Me too, in Spring Valley NY.
Love from Indonesia🇮🇩
I went to a small club in Baltimore in January 85 . My friend told me Queensryche was playing . Paid 5 bucks at The door and found a barstool overlooking the stage . It was during this song . Geoff climbed up to me . Took and hand and stayed !! We both watched Chris play lead .. A band I was a founding guitarist of . " Mystic Force " Would play that same club many times " Hammerjacks " . I wasn't with them anymore . But My friend and bassist would later open up for Geoff .
Burch, we know that Geoff, Rob and Mike, from Steelheart were the vocal killers of the 80's and early 90's. Thank you for introducing the talent that no longer exists in music today.
I saw them twice in the 1990’s. Watching them live was like dropping the needle onto the vinyl and listening to the record, only better. I remember the drummers kick bass drum was going straight through my body. Geoff Tate was #1 for a rock voice. Watch Them “Live Evolution”. Geoff Tate’s voice 20 years after this video was like a fine wine. He got better with age. Amazing voice. What more can you say? I tip my hat to him and I Seethe with admiration…..
I seen them in Mannheim Germany in 1984 opening for Dio . They blew me away and i became a fan that night . I've seen hundreds of concerts and hundreds of bands and no one has ever topped a vocal performance like Tate gave that night . Outstanding .........eyes of a stranger and silent lucidity videos would be cool to see you guys do too .
Check out the band Triumph. Rik Emmett has some pipes. Lay It On The Line official video shows him just going up with a powerful mix and not falsetto. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good call Raymond, on the list. His voice is stunning and even into his later years he could still bring it home
I love your reactions, infectious and well articulated! Love you both.
I saw them on that tour in Houston 1985, they opened for Kiss and he wore the same outfit
Geoff is such an amazing talented singer my personal favorite is The Lady Wore Black
Yes!! I just found your channel today and I scrolled furiously looking for this song lol thank you thank you thank you!!
Amazing voice and powerful band!
saw them on the rage for order tour , before they really got big , one of the best bands i ever saw , incredible
Have seen Queensryche once with Geoff and twice solo most recent in Melbourne Australia a week ago doing Rage for Order & Empire back to back,he was absolutely awesome still my favourite vocalist of all time. The whole live in Tokyo gig is brilliant, great to see new people being introduced to them almost always with this version/ video…..great photo of ED by the way 🤘🏽
Great reaction, saw them live a few times way back in the beginning, unreal!
Same here!
Got this Concert as a Original VHS - VERSION at home
Love these vids, the emotion in your eyes transports you right back to the 80's, absolutely superb. I'm 48, from England, and I was one of the minority in my school listening to metal, thrash is my love, and I'm still listening to all the early Anthrax, Testament, Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Exodus stuff and it whips me back to '86 and it's fantastic. Keep up the great work, the chemistry between you 2 is awesome, you're in your element, and your daughter is so excited to hear your stories, brilliant
To answer Steph's question. When this was shot, everyone in the band (accept for Geoff Tate) were in their early 20's. Geoff was in his mid-20's. Their house engineer for this tour was my mentor for live and studio enigneering.
They sync together well indeed.
Great Reaction from both of you…😊👍
Love it…Thanks…J
It's all that I'm at least five times live all of them were incredible concerts
Amazing story to hear, so happy for you to have experienced that hole period at their prime!
I’ve seen a lot of people mentioning Operation Mindcrime due to its status as a concept album.
I believe Suite Sister Mary would be an individual song to react to on the channel.
The Livecrime version has a very theatrical version of this song that is amazing.
Geoff also has a version of this song that he does with his daughter a few years ago where she does the Sister Mary part when he was touring after the lawsuit was settled and he couldn’t use the QR name anymore.
At the time, not sure about today, his daughter was in her own band as well and I believe was dating one of the members of his touring band.
Both are very interesting videos if you can find them and you love that song like I do.
Very cool you photographed them, big fan myself since they came out and ex photographer myself. Geoff was amazing.
Just magnificent!I Grew up in the 80’s and luckily in L.A. saw and lived the whole scene..Never get tired listening to this track …
Back in the days no backing tracks , playback none of the stuff today..just brilliant! Gives me goosebumps..
They were magic back then, Chris , Eddie and Geoff
Another awesome band. Thank you!!
Awesome story! Thanks for sharing. Saw them live 6 times and they are always great.
Thank you Bill.
Saw Queensryche when they opened up for Kiss on the Animalize tour. Pure professional. Pure talent. Nailed the show live. Saw them again a couple years when they opened up for AC/DC on the Who Made Who tour. Same story. Great prog metal/rock band that filled the space between Rush and Dream Theater.
Their record Empire is epic.
I've been a huge fan since 84 thanks for your great shots.
I was there... as a New US Navy Sailor who got tickets last minute!!!
Unreal!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
Chris Stapleton: Cold (live CMA) Tennessee Whiskey (Live!)
Struggle Jennings and Caitlynne Curtis God We Need You Now!
Home Free Listen to the Music, Country Roads, Butts Remix, End of the Road, Man of Constant Sorrow!
That must have been one for the ages, crowd energy times a million. Steph has Stapleton on the list, I will have her check about the others. Thank you for your service.
First time seeing these guys, they were unknown band opening up KISS .It was this tour, I was like everybody else, "FUCK",and fan ever since. 😎
THATS A GOOD DAD RIGHT THERE, HES TEACHING YOU RIGHT GIRL!!
We just work together Stephen, not related.
Seriously , silent lucidity is a stunning song 😊
Queensryche is my ALL TIME favorite band and i'm BEYOND jealous you got to photograph and be around that band lol so JEALOUS!!!
Seen this tour,86 opened for ozzy also open for kiss, magical
I saw Queensryche open for Ozzy, for The Ultimate Sin Tour (I think) in 86, in Columbia, SC. I took a friend who didn’t know them. They opened with Take Hold of the Flame. I vividly recall telling my friend, Steve W,. that; “this guy hits a note on this song you believe. I’m sure he can’t do it live, so I’ll play it for you otw home. Well…Geoff shut me up by hitting that G5 3 long times, and several short ones. I was blown away, even 2-3 years after it’s release.
I think that’s why I enjoy watching Reaction videos so much. I may be only one of the thousands of viewers, yet it still feels like I’m sharing my experience with others, especially those who don’t know them. I especially enjoy reactions by vocal coaches/professionals because they can so clearly define what techniques are used by different singers.
Well done and thanks.
Incredible singer incredible band severely underrated
They were not their own little entity. Along with Fates Warning, they are known as the inventors or Godfathers, if you will, of Prog Metal. They seemed unique at the time, because they were inventing a musical form, which is very prevalent, today. They are probably the second best Prog Metal band of all time, behind only my favorite band, Savatage.
Hey guys!!! loving your channel, 63 yo Army vet, retired radio DJ mostly classic rock, but jocked country at one point for a couple years and top 40 back in the early 80's, love when you get into "my era" of rock, but that also includes bands like Queensryche, got to interview Geoff a few years back on the air, just before a concert they were playing nearby, anyway, keep up the great work...Rock ON!!! you bring a lot of joy to this old man's day!!! BTW you should turn her on to the "Operation: Mind Crime" album, probably one of the best albums in my collection...
Wish I could have seen them when they were the original band.
The in band issues didn't really start until DeGarmo left the band, but IMO DeGarmo was the major songwriter for the band and even he had burned out before he quit.
He was a dad at that point and probably liked the idea of being able to have some influence in his kid's life other than a telephone.
The original lineup was just magic Grant. I will say that Todd has done a very good job over the years in a tough situation. DeGarmo is and always will be one of my favorites.
Your channel just popped up for me, you guys have a good camera presence. It's also good to see the Gen x'r introducing the new generation to some of the gems from our era. I can't believe you didn't talk to her about operation Mind crime. Which is still, to this day, considered possibly the best concept album of all time. There are so many great lost gems from the 70's, 80's and even early 90's. Consider giving Triumph and Rick Emmet's soaring vocals a listen.
Gotta show her Youth Gone Wild official Video….😊👍🤘
I’ve been a huge Queenryche fan since their EP. I own every record and have seen them many times over the years. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting them several times over the decades. Always gracious guys. It was unfortunate what happened to the original band. But, I’ve seen Geoff out on his own and he still sounds amazing in his sixties now. Also, the new version with Todd LaTorre is pretty damn good too. Todd has a great voice and does justice with the old songs. My top three from this era / genre are Queensryche, Dream Theater and Kings X.
Seeing them tomorrow night here in Seattle. Humg out with the guys quite a few times. Great people and they still got it. Still putting out great music.
That is awesome Lee. Todd can bring it for sure. Let us know how it goes!
Just a ridiculously great band that I put up on a shelf by themselves simply because of the "Operation Mindcrime" LP...Not a bad cut on it. Got to see 'Ryche during that particular tour and it was an insanely outstanding performance. They were the "whole package" as far as other bands/artists go...
Queensryche is so awesome and I always enjoy watching the reaction of someone hearing Geoff Tate sing for the first time. I will never forget the first time I heard them. It blew my mind. No other band sounded like them. I still believe that Operation: Mindcrime is the best album ever recorded.
Totally agree with you, they are such an amazing band live. Saw them back in the 90s.🎸
👌👌👌
Geoff is a top 5 metal vocalist. In many peoples opinion he is #1. He is singing amazing again btw.
This was a great concert! You can find all of the individual songs on the tube but i don't know if the full concert is out there anywhere
I will have to look for the others, I have only seen this one and one other. Thanks Rick
@@flickeringboxofficial Try a channel called Queensryche bootlegs
My respects to the homies of Bellevue, Washington. Queensryche rules. 🤘😌👍
Its very nice to revisit 90's bands, also its awesome with very lovely steph
If you didn't know this was live, you wouldn't know it was live!
Haha. These guys grew up in my hometown of Bellevue, Wa so I was lucky to hear of them early and experience their start and further. Good stuff. I actually golfed with Chris DeGarmo about ten years ago and he doesn't like discussing that he was in a band but was super cool otherwise.
Perfection 🙂
GREAT reaction! I was wondering when you would get to Queensryche. There were so many great bands in the 80s and 90s. Scorpions, Great White, Danzig, White Zombie, Dio, and many more, and some you have mentioned. Pantera's Cemetery Gates is a great one. A band that many have heard but rarely remember is Loudness. A band from Japan that barely spoke English but could rock out. You also did Queensryche but a similar style band Helloween. Keep em coming guys. I really love it when a generation is introduced to our Era of great music.
