I provided some suggestions in the Sibiu area earlier on your Bucharest video. Try the villages nearby (Cisnădie and Cisnădioara for Germanic churches and fortresses, Cristian for a fortified Saxon church and Gura Râului for beautiful streets, Săliște for a beautiful mini town with a small market, and for something more exotic the high altitude villages of Poiana Sibiului and Jina). If you wake up early you can do all of that in one day (if you rush). Sibiu is also the starting point for the high altitude roads of Transfăgărășan or Transalpina, each being a full day trip however. They are probably not open now due to the weather though. For something more unusual within an hour's drive, try Alba Iulia (my favorite small town, in a star shaped fortress built by the Habsburgs with a charming walkable center and everything from Roman ruins to a medieval Catholic cathedral and a modern Orthodox complex); Salina Turda (theme park in a salt mine) is on the way and you can even visit Hunedoara castle the same day; or head the other way to Cârța to see the ruins of a French church from before the Saxon arrival, and you can combine Porumbacu de Sus village with its fairy-tale houses and possibly even the town of Făgăraș with its fortress. Google everything to gauge your interests, but the margins of Sibiu (Mărginea Sibiului) has enough things to keep you busy for a while, and some charming scenery and villages.
Wow thanks for all the tips, we really appreciate it! Unfortunately the Transfaragan is closed right now so we will have to stick to some smaller destinations 👍🏼
Transalpina is also quite impressive, and it ends in the pottery town of Horezu (very cute!) but I think it's also likely closed. I hope the drive up to Jina is open this time of the year, the high altitude villages are interesting and were not collectivized by the communists because they were too remote (the peasants were allowed to keep their land and livestock). Naturally, they flourished economically since they were not forced to give up everything and to participate in the socialist economy, and you can tell the difference when you see the houses.
Guys if you are german let me educate you as romanian. Sibiu is called in german Hermanstadt, and Transilvania in german is Siebenbürgen. Also Hermanstadt gave our president Klaus Iohannis who IS german and the mayor of the city is also german Astrid Fodor just like the mayor of Temeschwar Dominic Fritz
About the flags... we don't usually have them up everywhere at all times, just for about 2 months, from the middle or end of November until the latest in February, or whenever they decide to take down the public holiday decorations too. And the reason for that is the National day on Dec 1st.(The Great Union), but also the other national celebration on Jan 24 (aka The "Small" Union or The Principalities Union).
Festival food is usually 3 times more expensive than having it on a non-touristic areas, but to find those you need the help of some locals. What you two eat could be found in other places for about 20 lei instead of 65. For 65 lei both of you can get stuffed in some places. At least the hats had good prices.
People especially in the countryside have been super hospitable! In Bucharest not so much, there seemed to be just a lot of stress. But we had so many helpful locals and really good tips👍🏼
@@zingwibrothers Bucharest tends to be that way. When someone express any desire to visit Romania I recommend starting from other cities if possible, especially when there are other international airports.
You visited the city in the period whe we have the National Day 1st of December, that's why everywhere you saw the National Flag. But you have right, we are awaiting very proud nation!
Romania has not yet been touched by the "woke" virus and the national feeling has not been destroyed. We are proud to be Romanians and this holds us together as a nation. In Western countries the national spirit has been destroyed and countries are just a collection of isolated individuals who have no connection with each other. This is because they want nations to disappear so that the EU can take over. We will soon see the consequences of these policies.
@@zingwibrothers I guess it depends on your interests; there are a few beautiful places in nature (but can't compare to Romania). But in winter it's a bit sketchy to come here, kind of depressing, but in March everything starts to get beautiful again. :)

"They even have Langos here". bro langos is an eastern European food. It was invented in Hungary and introduced to Germany, from Eastern Europe, not the other way around.
Birtan or Birthelm is also near Sibiu , better yet Madiaş also a lot of German/Sachsen influences. You can try the pickles in Romania are much more tastier than in Germany.
Everything, even the cabbage, what the locals do, not from supermarkets. Try to find a family that still prepare their own pork for holidays and when they do the dinner from the fresh meat they usually serve pickled cabbage with it, from a wooden barrel if it’s traditional, at least in Transylvania.
Es war Nationalfeiertag und deshalb die vielen Fahnen! Sonst sind sie nur an öffentlichen Gebäuden mit der Europarat Flagge! @@zingwibrothers Jam is the original recipe and Nutella is the modern one so I suggest jam, it's the best combo with sour cream and jam combined over the deep friend donut
Note that restaurants don't usually serve real papanași. They serve a much easier to make version which is basically American style doughnuts (with cheese dough, so better) which are deep fried and topped with sour cream and jam (I suggest the jam version, not the Nutella one, which is too sweet. Whereas the jam is a bit sour and goes better with the dessert). However, these are not real papanași. The real ones are made from semolina, not dough, and they are boiled, not fried. They taste nothing alike, and are much better, but most restaurants don't care about tradition and sell the commercial version of the dishes. This is true of many dishes you will try unfortunately, but papanași is the most extreme example of altering a recipe.
Yep. Maybe not even Saxons, although people generally think of them as if they were. But they certainly didn't include Angles. The original Anglo-Saxons were a blend of Angles and Saxons. The Angles were from the border area between Germany and Denmark, and it seems unlikely that people from that region ever reached Romania to any significant extent. The original Saxons were the immediate southern neighbours of the Angles, living just north of the River Elbe (and Hamburg). The original area of the Saxons together with the southern half of the area of the Angles makes up Germany's northern-most state, Schleswig-Holstein. Angles and Saxons colonised parts of Britain and merged into a single culture there. This is of no relevance to German speakers on the continent. The Saxons later spread southward towards what is now the German state of Lower Saxony, and even further south and east to the modern German states of Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony. Only at that point, many centuries after Anglo-Saxons formed in Britain, German colonies formed in Romania (in Transylvania). While it is plausible that some of them originated in Saxon areas of Germany, there is an alternative explanation for why they were referred to as Saxons, so we have no reason to believe that they were almost exclusively Saxons. And there is a good reason to think most of them were not, in fact, Saxons (let alone Angles): Their dialect, though _called_ "Transylvanian Saxon", is actually not related to any Saxon dialect but instead to Moselle Franconian dialects. So this points to an origin in the extreme West of Germany near Luxembourg.
You found langos outside of Germany? Spoiler alert! Langos is a Hungarian word, so why are you so surprised to find it in a region with Hungarian influences. It is very common in Transylvania, you can find it even in the smallest towns. On the other hand, I like the fact that finally you finally admit that our"sister" countries form Western EU regard us as second-hand European citizens. I am grateful that you showed them the opposite and thank you for that. Just show them that we are civilised, we are not savages , and we like being part of the EU. Danke!
you saw the flag of romania everywhere because here was National day on 1st of December is not because we are like China... inform yourself first, please!

@@zingwibrothers the average NET salary in Romania is 1050 euro and the minimum NET salary is 520 euro. The salaries are growing by 10-15% every year in Romania.
The Xmass market stuff is pricey because the municipality rents the huts and everything to the commercial enterprises there, and the rent is damn expensive. So they have to get profit somehow - and that's by having totally high prices. Typically they're local businesses, you can find their main place and eat the same things at normal prices if you go out of the city center.
@@zingwibrothers Yeah absolutely. Normally, if you go to any normal place (outside of Xmas faires or atop the mountain on Transfagarasan, or something like that) to get a Langos it's barely a third of the price, or even less than that. My friend who works in the Bucharest Sector 6 city hall told me the rents the commercial enterprises pay for the stalls are quite exorbitant actually - basically the town hall makes a hefty profit from Xmas faires, and thus they in turn have to have exorbitant prices there to turn a profit. I think in Germany it's different - as in the faires are actually subsidized by the local authorities, at least in some places. I'm actually not sure about Germany, but I know for a fact that used to be the case in other CEE countries, and thus the prices practiced in the Xmas faires were very reasonable as a consequence. That used to be the case in Romania as well, but there was this whole discussion about public spending on subsidies of this sort being framed as being wasteful, so the local authorities made it in a way they can't be accused of waste.
The 1st of December is the national day of Romania, that's why you saw so many flags. You made a historical mistake, the Anglo Saxons lived in the 5th century and settled in England. The settlers in Transylvania were Germans or Sachsen and came in the 12th century to this region. They founded 7 German cities, like Herrmanstadt, Kronstadt, Klausenburg. Transylvania became a part of the Austrian empire till the end of the the first WW when this empire disintegrated. The architecture in these cities are proof of that. In Mediasch you can see Margaret's Church and tower from the 12 th century. A German church. The food is really good in Transylvania and the climate as well. Whatever season you choose, it will be a pleasant experience for you. Bucharest was called Little Paris and there was a time during the reign of one of the kings when French was spoken by the rich. Today there are no shootings or stabbings on the streets like in the west. It is a misconception to call a country uncivilised because it was under a communist regime. That was the ideology of the 20th century but until then, Romania had it's own history and culture.

Also Hermanstadt gave our president Klaus Iohannis who IS german and the mayor of the city is also german Astrid Fodor just like the mayor of Temeschwar Dominic Fritz
Cool thanks for sharing!!
For food try eggplant salad, carp roe salad, tripe soup, beef soup, bean and pork soup. For desert try Savarina, Amandina, Carpati.
1 December îs the natinal day în România!
That makes sense ! 😅🇷🇴
@@zingwibrothers That's why you saw so many flags, later they will be removed,of course.
Festival food is usually 3 times more expensive than having it on a non-touristic areas, but to find those you need the help of some locals. What you two eat could be found in other places for about 20 lei instead of 65. For 65 lei both of you can get stuffed in some places.
At least the hats had good prices.
Great to hear! Thanks!
Sibiu is really nice and clean!
Our favorite city in the Balkan region 👍🏼
Hopefully people are friendly and hospitable as well will plan my trip there for sure!

Romania is actually a very safe country, I think you've heard probably about the corruption, not criminality.
but maybe we do not have a good reputation because of some romanians that work across the board
"They even have Langos here". bro langos is an eastern European food. It was invented in Hungary and introduced to Germany, from Eastern Europe, not the other way around.
Good to know, thanks for sharing!

Good job ! Verry funny. Hint ! In the summer try also the Danube Delta. Is national geographic live .

Birtan or Birthelm is also near Sibiu , better yet Madiaş also a lot of German/Sachsen influences. You can try the pickles in Romania are much more tastier than in Germany.
Haha what is the best pickeled vegetable in Romania?
Everything, even the cabbage, what the locals do, not from supermarkets. Try to find a family that still prepare their own pork for holidays and when they do the dinner from the fresh meat they usually serve pickled cabbage with it, from a wooden barrel if it’s traditional, at least in Transylvania.
We wanna see the nature!!
Coming!

Papanasi as dessert after food
That looks amazing, we saw it with Nutella and jam which is better?
@@zingwibrothers blueberries jam and sour cream is the best!!!

They were not Anglo Saxons, they were Saxons.
ORADEA guys! You have to visit Oradea, is on the border with Hungary so just on your way home 🏠 🎊

Tolles Video, danke Jungs. Kleiner Tipp: Nächstes Mal einfach mal auf Deutsch bestellen. Fast jeder dort versteht oder spricht deutsch. 🙂

1st of december is the national day in Romania, so everywhere in the country you'll see the flags hanging in the cities!
Danke!
You’re welcome! Thanks for sharing we didn’t know that!

Actually a cool idea
The Xmass market stuff is pricey because the municipality rents the huts and everything to the commercial enterprises there, and the rent is damn expensive. So they have to get profit somehow - and that's by having totally high prices. Typically they're local businesses, you can find their main place and eat the same things at normal prices if you go out of the city center.
Okay that makes sense, but the prices are really way too high. The Langos and sausages you can get for same or even cheaper in Germany.
Der Stadt name auf deutsch ist HERMANNSTADT‼️
Where are the baggers? Ah jes they are now in germany 😂
So far we have only seen one in the whole trip that’s definitely not what we expected
