@@kenyonsgirl415 I don't remember being naive about sex, I used to steal my uncle's magazines when I was VERY young. I mean, 5 or 6 my mom found and threw away my Playboys! 😞
@@kenyonsgirl415 I also can't figure out why I'm a little bit freaked out by the image of a 10 yr old singing this. I'd usually think that kinda thing would be funny and I'm not at all a prude!
Being an older person , it cracks me up the younger generation's reaction to the topics then....so cute. We were more relaxed about all that stuff then I think. ☺️🏴
In the 80s, after 2 Live Crew blew the lid off lewdness in music in a way that not too many bands before had, which actually had conservative senators throwing tantrums and wanting to ban rap music in America, this was kinda tame by comparison. and I think everyone had a nice laugh with it. But truthfully, it was actually a VERY catchy song and once you get past the lyrics, you find yourself singing along with it every time. The verses in the song are just as catchy as the chorus and that's not a thing that happens every day.
Divinyls came out in the 80's and had heaps of hits in Aussie. Chrissy was pretty wild on stage in the 80's. We lost a great rock chick when she passed away. RIP Chrissy Amphlett 💜
Chrissy died from breast cancer and they use this song for Cancer Awareness and to "touch your self" meaning check your breasts for lumps by touching yourself 💕
Yes on the radio. Yes…everyone understood what touching yourself means 😆 My boss paid for all the staff to see them live in concert as a Christmas gift…in Sydney, Australia.
Lol yes this was on the radio 😂the 90’s was a helluva trip… I was 11 y/o singing along with 2 Live Crew ‘Pop that P***’ and George Michaels ‘I Want Your S**’ songs on the car radio!
"this one time... in band camp", I don't think I saw that episode of Buffy. Stopped watching it after the first season or so. But since I love me some Alyson Hannigan, I might have to find a clip of that!
I haven't seen the episode either so will look it up as well. It's so random but they have a song in the Buffy movie too its a cover but love it just as much as this song 🎵
If I had a house like that, I'd probably touch myself all day long too. 😁And yes, they played this a lot on the radio and video channels. It was actually an innocent time back then, even if we had many songs on this subject. You had to be there to understand. I was a teenager when this came out and I sang along to it with absolutely zero sexual thought. The groove was so good, it was as if I was singing about flowers. I Want Your Sex by George Michael came out when I was a kid and we were all singing and dancing along without any sexual thought. That was the magic 80's.
Yes, this was allowed on the radio you know why because back in the day we weren’t so hung up on all the shit that everybody’s hung up on nowadays! We were living our best life listening to the best music doing our thing, life was good
My 80 year old mother believed me when I told her. She was surprised, but then she laughed. Then again, my mother listened to the Dead Kennedys Pull My Strings last night and laughed at the lyrics. Occupational hazard of living with me, I’m afraid.
Parents today are freaking out because their kids are singing along to Cardi B, and "WAP" is on the radio. Those parents used to be kids who were singing along to "I Touch Myself" on the radio, and THEIR parents were freaking out! But when those parents were kids, they were getting shit from THEIR parents about the way Elvis moved his hips! And keeps going. I don't know how far it's gonna get!
Dude I ENCOURAGE my kids to sing to stuff like this!! I also encourage listening to Kevin Bloody Wilson and Rodney Rude!! I want my kids (the eldest is now 19) to have just as much fun as I did listening to this stuff.
Interesting thing about this band is they were around about 10 years by the time this song came out and had been popular in their home country Australia but it took this song about touching yourself to get a worldwide hit! The lead singer (Chrissy Amphlett) revamped her image to be more sexual for this song/album.
I do remember a lady writing an angry letter to the local radio station to stop playing the song because her 8 year old daughter at the time was singing it.
First of all, I love your reaction to this video and song. Secondly, I was 20 when this song came out and oh my god when I first heard it was like damn this song is badass and I still love it till this day it’s one of my favorites.
What do you think Cyndi Lauper’s song “She Bop” is about? This was the 90s. In the 80s and 90s they weren't scared to sing about anything. The Divinyls had many hits and nothing wrong with song, everyone touches themselves, perfectly natural. Have fun and do it as much as you want 😊
Your title alone, omg the title alone! Then, sugar honey iced tea, i cant get a minute into this focker, im dyin 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can't.... i keep editing this: I'll pause, then ill keep watching & just need to stop again & say, "i can't ". Nobody even noticed Janet being nasty on the radio. Not the song Nasty. “Got a nice package alright, guess I’m gonna have to ride it tonight!” It’s All For You!!
They filmed this in a convent, of all places. They sent away the nuns for the weekend, but I always wonder if the sisters ever found out what, um, went down.
This song was huge when it came out and I was obsessed with it. It was the first piece of music I bought with my pocket money. It was in a "cassette tape" for $8.99 and I was 11.
4:47 yes they made a lot of songs, a lot of hit songs- if you were lucky enough to be Australian. This is why we owned the 80s. North America missed out on sooo much.
Dude. Were you even paying attention? Three times you missed the contortionist in the background with her head between her legs. To answer your question about what happened to the band. The band was big in Australia, not so much so internationally. They had a number of hits including this one. The lead singer, Chrissy, was in a relationshio with the lead guitarist Mark. When that fell apart the band pretty much did too. Chrissy moved to the US and married the band drummer. She sadly died there from breast cancer. She could not have treatment due to complications from MS. Before she died however she arranged to make this song a feature for breast self examination as part of a breast cancer awareness campaign.
This was turned into a public service announcement for self breat exams by her family when she died of breast cancer. She has MS and couldn't do standard treatments of the time. So then you never shake any man's hand? Somehow, I don't think they don't find an anthem in this song.😅😂 How about Five Finger Death Punch Gone Away Blue on Black with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the original artist, Brantley Gilbert and Brian May. It was back in the day of no smartphones so we had to do something with our hands 😂 Aussie rock legend Chrissy Amphlett was unapologetically sassy & sexy, this wasn’t the best Divinyls song but it got attention.

🤣😅 Did you slip in "be careful, Mike" at the end or am I tripping? I mean, I'm careful to not do it on slippery surfaces or while driving (usually)... I'm not blind yet, I got this, am a pro!

WRONG, this is a Christian song, she's Catholic and definitely talking about thinking about Jesus and touching the cross up down and side to side. Sceez got a dirty mind!
"Y'all are nasty"... but America has WAP. Similar sort of song about female sexual empowerment, just not quite as good. Nothing nasty about female sexuality
Everyone sing along now... "when I think about you I touch myself" 😅🎉
