I must have been blackout drunk that entire year because I never knew we had Dwight Gooden.
Hahaha
So was Dwight Gooden
This is Cleveland summed up in one comment 😂😂😂
Lmao
I didn't realize Gooden pitched in the postseason again. It was a shame what Stottlemyre did to his windup to get him to throw that junk fastball. He should've worked a slider into his repertoire instead.
Those where strikes....in any decade
And unfortunately, those are umpires....in any decade.
@@MichaelBradley1967 incredible comment. Umpires and referees are some of the most disgusting rats on earth.
I'm not a ump but them two were strikes. Maybe he needs a seeing eye dog
@@1sick95venge not much of a linguist either.....
Shon Fischer were*
Leslie Nielsen would call these strikes
LMAO
Ha Ha good one!
Enrico Palazzo definitely would
Rather enthusiastically as well. Lol
Not if there were 2 outs in the 7th lol
i was at that game. Ended up getting fired from a job I hated over it because I went to it. It was worth it.
🏆
I hope the ump got suspended for this.
Nothing happened to him. Later in the inning, Boston had a guy thrown out at the plate by 20 feet and Brinkman called him safe (there was no replay review back then). Gooden went to argue and Brinkman threw him out as well. Cleveland went on to win the game handily.
So, none of this incident matters in the end: Cleveland won the game. That's all that matters, because those bad calls didn't cause them to lose.
Best manager we ever had and probably ever will have. Hargrove was awesome. He took us from nobody, to the top team to beat in the 90's. Too bad they let him go.
So why did YOU let him go
My dad took me to this game; we were right behind the dugout. Right before Gooden got tossed, he stepped off the mound and screamed "WHERE THE F*** IS YOUR STRIKE ZONE!?" The crowd was *hostile*.
Who won this game?
Drej 101 The Indians did, 9-5. In fact they went on to win the next three to win the series.
Gooden got tossed too?
@@mdteletom1288 what innings did Gooden get tossed? good for him. those pitches were strikes and the ump missed them both. HORRIBLE
Javi C I’m pretty sure gooden got tossed a couple of plays later when brinkman called someone safe at home who was clearly out.
Mike Hargrove “Grover” was a great manager for the Tribe. He ALWAYS stood up for his players.
Hargrove in MY opinion was one of the best managers of all time. I sure do miss him. He was the reason the Indians had so many runs for the WS. He treated his players great and taught them well. That's the reason why they were so good. They wanted to do their best for him. Mike and his wife did so much for the community as well. Glad he's at least back with the Indians in the front office. Not sure if he retired yet or not. Haven't heard much this year.
Thanks whoever gave me the thumbs up. 👍
OMG I AM GONNA CRY I just not to brag it’s just He’s my grandpa and it means a lot to hear that after he I don’t care if you believe me or not but thank you I can for sure show him that I think he will appreciate it
Exploding Cookies that’s awesome! What’s he up to these days?

Fun fact....the home plate umpire went on to referee in the NFL and was the side judge during the Rams/Saints 2019 NFC Championship game.
@@e.f.9963 Joe Brinkman couldn't run like all those NFL officials do.
It was a power trip
Hold up
No he didn’t
It was only a few plays after this that Gooden got ejected too arguing a missed call at home plate. Brinkman was clueless this game
He looked good, lean and healthy. I think he did pretty well in the AL. He ended up having a fairly good career, which could've been great. Thing is, he broke in when he was about 17 so he's probably only about 31 or 32 here.
Geez. I actually forgot Doc was an Indian for 10 minutes between his time with the Mets and Yankees. Doc Rocks!!! Greatest MLB pitcher I ever had the pleasure to watch and root for. I'll ALWAYS love DOC! He's forever Mets Royalty.
Sad to hear he's back with a bad drug habit again, sad.
The best was a couple plays later when doc gooden almost assaulted the umpire after calling someone safe at home who was clearly out. Definitely want to see that one again
its the same game same inning :0
@@gforce97 yeah it was a wild beginning haha
Someone from “the family” must have lined the umps pockets with an offer he couldn’t refuse.
I love how easy it is to read their lips sometimes. The poke from the ump elicited a very necessary "don't fucking touch me"
Mr. Magoo would have called a ball and 2 strikes. Damn
Now see, we wouldn't get this type of entertainment with robots calling strikes or an electronic strike zone.
True, but you'd get a consistent game.
Yeah but then you don’t get ejections and I live for the manager getting run.
Best game I've ever been to!!! Gooden got ejected not long after and Dave Burba came in from the bullpen for 5 solid innings. Definitely worth the face paint I wore all day in the stadium! Go Tribe!!!!
The umpires for Game 2 of the 1998 American League Division Series between the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians are (#5/AL/Dale Scott), (#15/AL/Joe Brinkman), (#17/AL/John Hirschbeck), (#10/AL/Larry McCoy), (#7/AL/Dave Phillips), and (#32/AL/Chuck Meriwether).
Must have been early in the morning, blue was still asleep. You can't miss those calls that early in a playoff game
Blue??
The Sarge normally what players call umpires in the game. I remember several times calling an umpire that when I played, not major league though. It’s not derogatory at all
How about a pass ball right to the umpire's chest
NOPE. Sick n wrong. No need for that. What are you, 8 years old with a 0 batting average in little league? DUMB
Javy C oh shit bro you got him BAD 🙄
Javy C don’t be such a cry baby
@@javtimestwo
Sick and wrong? Ha! Douche...
I was thinking the same thing, just sending a message
I didn’t know Denzel pitched in the majors!?! Wow, is there anything that guy can’t do???
I'm not a Tribe fan I am a fan of Cincinnati. However everytime Joe Brinkman it seemed had it out to get the Indians that was awful but as bad as it was Game 6 95 World Series was way worse. Tom Glavine got a extra foot of home plate.
Loved Mike Hargrove lol he said Don't F'ing touch me! Don't F'ing touch me! lol
Yeah, totally forgot Dwight Gooden pitched for the Tribe. I had season tickets back then too. 😂
Mike Hargrove was the best manager Cleveland ever had.
Doc pitched for the Indians?
Demo right? Same here
@Sal Velasquez ummm what? Must be a generation thing cuz all us "x" ers know doc was with us
I never knew that either
MLB should have stepped in and replaced that home plate ump on the spot.
You know the coach coming out killed Docs buzz lol
Now show why Gooden got tossed later.
Yes I want to see that.
He missed the call at the plate, called him safe when he was clearly out. Alomar blocked the plate and the throw beat him by five feet, not even a close call even without replay.
That ump did a wonderful job of throwing gas on the fire. Hargrove wasn't that hot but the ump is dropping f bombs early and then he touches him while pointing aggressively. Not to mention he's yelling out towards Gooden when Gooden wasn't even that demostrative about it. Umps are supposed diffuse situations, not inflame them. This was an awful job start to finish by this ump.
I wondered if Hargrove still had Game 6 of the 1995 WS in his mind when giving Brinkman a piece of his mind here in addition to his attitude.
I'm sure he did he was brutal in both games I'm a Reds fan who watched them both just as a baseball fan Brinkman was terrible Glavine in the World Series the plate was 3 feet wide cause of Brinkman.
@@patrickgray5633 Brinkman was in that Game 6? Really?
post when Gooden got ejected please
This game was driving me crazy about baseball
I didn't like the Indians back then, but man looking back they got screwed by the umpires a LOT in the playoffs. I can only imagine how many titles they could have won if the umps actually called their games down the middle. The fix was clearly on in a lot of their games, ESPECIALLY the Livan Hernandez game.
The '07 ALCS vs Boston was an atrocity. Indians Pitchers had the strike zone squeezed on them every game while Red Sox pitchers got strike zones that you could have driven a truck through. 2016 was bad because every Tribe fan was thinking OH GREAT! THE ONE TEAM THAT HAS WAITED LONGER THAN THE INDIANS FOR A TITLE AND YOU KNOW MLB WILL DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO HELP THE CUBS!
2nd and 3rd pitches not being called strikes were asinine. Strike zone the size of a thimble.
Umpires are ALWAYS right , you can’t argue with them .
I thought the first two were low, but the third pitch was a definite strike! No wonder the coach was upset! The tornado begins at 0:33.
Who was the greatest Native American, Chief Wahoo or Chief Noc-A-Homa? I loved both of their big wide grins, especially that of the impish rascule Wahoo.
One more reason to hate all these egotistical home plate umpires. MLB has given them ALL the power. They have no incentive to improve, so why should they? If an umpire is lousy behind the plate, don't put him behind the plate. Simple as that
I miss playoff games played in the day. On the East Coast we get screwed with these 8:05, 8:35 first pitches.
I don't. Most are at work during the day. Night games are better I can actually watch them
Brinkman was one of the last "Rat Baiters" allowed in MLB.
Umpire was dead wrong here. Especially in a playoff game as well. It's not like it's an afternoon game in June
Those pitches looked GOOD
Should of won 97 World Series...
Zachary Barnhart and 95’ terrible umpiring in game 6 look it up if you haven’t seen it
@@smittycle9952 To this day I have never seen a more ridiculous strike zone in a game. A strike zone that was given for a Hall of Fame pitcher! I mean a minor league pitcher would have won that game. Game 1 was pretty bad too. That was against another Hall of Famer too. Greg Maddux.
Should HAVE . . .
@@smittycle9952 Quit crying, they got their ass beat, get over it
M P every game they played that series was a 1 run finish besides game 4 (Atlanta won 5-2) and game 6 ended 1-0 Braves, so obviously you know nothing about the 95’ World Series and are just trying to be a troll because it obviously wasn’t an “ass beating” you’re just an incompetent person trying to act like you know something which you obviously know nothing about.
Leslie Nielson as Drebbin as Victor Palazzo as Brinkman.
Leslie Nielson, not Liam Neeson.
To show you where, when and how I grew up: Born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American (showing HOW I grew up). Everything, I repeat EVERYTHING, is about LOOKS. I judge everybody and everything by the way they LOOK. I thought of Mike Hargrove as a "crusty old man," but when I looked at pictures of him even at 31-32, he was a very DECENT looking man! Remember, in MY mind, everything, I repeat, EVERYTHING, is about LOOKS and RACE.
Those are strikes God damn..
1st pitch is clearly low.
The 2nd and 3rd pitches are most definitely strikes
Very unprofessional umpire, making contact with the manager. He should've been suspended for the rest of the postseason after that.
The booth announced that like a WWE match. Love it
That's ESPN they always sound like WWE.
Hargrove really enjoyed their telecast
Honestly I think this may of won the Indians the series. They went on to win the next 3 games after this.
MLB has taken arguments out of the game, for the most part
Not all of them... The Ball-Strike Arguments are still around.
this fired up the team and we won that game
I don’t believe I ever saw a ump get mad at a pitcher for not throwing over plate🤣
RIP Chief Wahoo
Bring chief wahoo back
@@inmyhouse11
Chief Wahoo was a racist caricature.
@@AaronSaysSKOL no it wasnt
Godfather95 MBS It actually is though.
@@X64813 nah its just that some people see racism everywhere
Doc Gooden was later ejected because the umpire Brinkman called a runner safe at home when he was clearly out. Vizquel’s relay to the plate had him out by five feet, it was not even a close call. Terrible game for the umpire.
Alex Weaver agreed definitely want to see that clip. Pretty wild
🤑
That umpire should have never been in A playoff series
Oh cmon, doc was surgical on those, ump.
Count should be 1-2 right now. First one was low. Pitcher for some 27 years.
Seriously how do you miss that...twice
1:33--If I were at this game and I saw this, I would have walked out immediately.
Not if you paid good money for playoff tickets.
No you wouldn’t have you liar
For a moment, Gooden look's like Denzel Washington
Brinkman had a postage stamp strike zone. But he was in MLB before Hargrove came up as a PLAYER! Hargrove benefitted greatly from Brinkman's strike zone with almost a thousand walks in his career -- mostly in the AL where Brinkman was. I'd bet money Brinkman was behind the plate for easily 30-40 or so of those walks. Not to mention the good pitches he go due to being ahead in the count as Hargrove had a decent to good eye at the plate. With that said, MLB (and common sense for that matter) should have had Brinkman expand his strike zone. I will say, however, that he was fairly consistent -- and Hargrove knew this. Not sure Gooden did, though.
Doubt Gooden knew as he was mostly a career NL guy at this juncture of his career
That ump must have had a malpractice suit against doc.
2 were strikes
even if those pitches were balls, the umps should never touch a player/coach during an argument. and i thought joe west was bad...
why baseball losing its popularity
This ump clearly must have been trying to provoke Doc.
How do these guys get umpiring jobs clearly those pitches were strikes, what more does the umpiring want!!!!!!
Uh.. you think that's funny, check the strike zone in the 95 WS.
Take a look at the 1997 NLCS game 5. Livan Hernandez got a strike zone so big Mama Cass could walk through it.
Check out the strike zone in the '94 series. It was nonexistent.
Lex Watson Hartford Whalers? Haven’t seen that logo in a long time
Check out the first pitch to Albert Belle, top of the 8th, game 6. Unbelievable.
Just disgraceful by Joe Brinkman who's not a good umpire anyway. I'm not an Indians fan but Hargrove was absolutely right to let Brinkman have it. There's not enough accountability with officials in all sports and there needs to be because they can affect the outcome with a lousy call in a crucial moment.
Don't call him Dwight.
Pitch one was low. Pitch two was...borderline, but looked like a strike to me. Pitch three was...a strike.
Don't remember Doc pitching for Cleveland
The umpires should have to apologize later and get suspended for bs calls like these!
I am a red Sox fan and I believe Hargrove was right. Lewis should have been called out on strikes
Nope
it sounds to me like hargrove said what do i tell my pitcher? brinkman says tell him to get the effen ball up. hargrove says i wont tell him that, then gets tossed
Doc Gooden got tossed a few batters later you post that
He got in his face after he missed a call at the plate. The runner was out, and it was not even close. In the days before replay, these calls could not be overturned, so the place exploded with boos when the replay showed up on the big screen.
I agree they should post that as well.
At the end who won the game?
Aldo Yamaguchi The Indians won 9-5 with Dave Burba taking the win. They would go on to win the series 3-1, before losing to the Yankees in the ALCS in 6.
@@Abraham16ish Thks.
The ump is white and the pitcher's black
Joe Brinkman may have run an umpires school, but he was terrible behind the plate. Remember the year in the postseason when he knelt about five feet behind the catcher? Pathetic. Say what you will about today's umpires, but the best thing to happen to Major League umpiring was accepting the union's resignation letters in 1999. It brought the umpires together under MLB authority instead of the separate leagues, and actually created some oversight.
2 were strikes but that catcher horribly butchered them. Stick the glove, hold it for 1 second at least
Another example of an umpire making the game about themself.
Looks like someone has a gambling problem.
I would've been ejected too. That ump should have his bank account checked.
What happened to the umpire after 1:49? He touched the manager with his finger. It’s a wonder he didn’t attack the umpire.
New title: Ump fixes game.
I was at this game, I was eating a burrito when all of a Sudden i realized that all three pitches were strikes then i checked were i was, i was never there, don't do drugs Kids.
Wow what a lousy ump. Worst zone than Angel Hernandez.
Bizzarre. Brinkman was one of the worst.
Joe Brinkman was a TERRIBLE umpire
No doubt about it. Those were strikes
Typical umpire. Can’t call a strike
Tribe won that game in front of 45k plus. Go Tribe
Count should have been 2-2
My poor Indians!
"Dudley" do-right..
That ump is bush
MLB didnt have good vision benefits back then
And this is why I quit watching MLB, because I'm sick of stupid blind umpires and umpires who have their own strike zone and umpires who favor pitchers.
You guys calling Hargrove a great manager…🤣🤣🤣
