In June 2008 my partner & I watched this movie. In July we gave away all of our possessions, resigned from our jobs, and hit the road with a tent and and the faith that we would find much more to experience. We traveled 17,000 miles in a Beetle, lived in Virginia, Wyoming, & Arizona. We camped everywhere in between. We survived it with a new found respect for this complicated but wonderful world we live in. We just came back to the apartment where it all began. Life is a beautiful journey. Never lose site of the beauty within and that which surrounds us on all sides. Most profound soundtrack that still impacts me in a very specific way to this very day. Love, Peace, and Wisdom. You don't always have to make the perfect choice sometimes it helps to choose a path and be willing to bend as the path wonders. Eyes wide open and soul more open than eyes.

Rest in peace Alex Supertramp...

VIVIO!
this guy had such an important potential to help society change it's way, but unfortunally didn't make it farder... wish we all can see many like him around one day!

Julia.dreaming Baby steps. If Chris could learn as he went then anyone can if they can maintain faith in their own ability to learn. But this album, the books, Chris himself...its about an inward journey and it can happen anywhere. Change helps, and for Chris and many others there is something about covering distances but its not for everyone. All the best, its good not to have specific things to run from. Truly a blessing.
julia. To be honest...the dream is always easier than reality..to do this sort of thing...you will lose all of who you thought you were , the gift in return...you find your True self. Anything is possible if you feel it with your heart :)
Alexander Lange when i watch this film, in the last part, i think he will come back your home, but he die,...it is not happy ending. on other hand, it is suitable with film's name if he collect something when he come back. It is all in my opinion.
Yea i know, but he finally gets is question answared. It is a bit of a sad ending but he found what he was looking for and he had alot of good memories. He died with a smile on his lips :)
Gives me hope if everything fucks up i can live this life! All of you should understand that whatever happens you can look the other way and start a fresh life somewhere. YOU are NOT trapped in your situation! You are free!
You are NOT free though.. being able to survive separated from the rest of society requires knowledge and ability. You can't just dump it all and expect to survive. To live free of society actually takes more time, more effort than living in it. You are not free, effort is labor or you shall perish like he did.
Krumple Themal I think that you are correct in that it takes labor, knowledge, ability, e.t.c. to live outside of the bounds of society but to have those skills, use them, and recognize that the whole culture is a game is certainly a huge freedom and that could, for plenty of people, mean being free. freedom may be easier to accept than you'd think. +TheCameltotem is damn right i think. =)
Ya, but what is at the core of everything fucking up often times is the one thing you take with you when starting over, yourself. Your damnation or liberation is not found in people, places, and/or things. It only resides within you.
Take that Step......as the days pass your fascination with the natural Rhythms of the sun & moon will increase and a calm sense of being will stretch to the furthest horizon, you'll begin to wonder..."how does this work"?...as you make the direct discovery of Life Itself meeting all your needs. In 1988 I took that step, I didn't go to come back with a one-way ticket to Bombay - lived and travelled in more than 30 countries since. Turned 50 last month, have no need to travel as I have a productive and contented life with my family in the mountains of Northern Thailand. Give All to Have All.
+Mass Frat - Over the last 4yrs ChiangMai has been "discovered".....you may find it has lost some of it's charm. Avoid month of March, its the "burning season" and the air quality is poor.
Thanks Haley appreciate your info. I remember the air quality was a problem while I was there and I remember even discussing it with locals. Still one of my fave places and I will send you a message when I arrive. Maybe grab a beer. Cheers.
great song and since christopher saw life throught his own eyes, it makes him a great person. All the critics in the world dont matter, he saw life how he wanted and lived it how he wanted, he was an individual with individuality...and every man on the face of earth that has that will surely get my respect.
I watched this film in in winter 2011 ...i pleaded to my partner we had to just leave..but i think this overwhelmed him, he saw something awoken inside of me. And i remember having this feeling of dread of ergency that if i didnt go that id never be free and o will die inside. I left u.k ended up usa wilderness. I went from crazy society to living in isolation in the woods, and i cried lots..i spoke out to the stars lots and the eagles...and the tears melted away all the crap and then it became clear to me..that i was on the right path . For me, its not about what i have in my hands, this journey for me is about what my heart feels. I am poor and i have endured ...but i have felt..i can feel....the greatest gift of all :) i feel alive.
Rhiannon Machtan that's a really beautiful story and what an amazing adventure ! You certainly have some really interesting stories to pass on. And you're right it's about the journey that takes us there. I think we should all learn something from Chris, I myself am moving to China next month alone not hitchhiking like you or Chris. But I will someday . "The joy from like comes from our encounters and new experiences and hence why there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon and for each day to have a different sun " - Chris. Chris lived more in 2 years than most people live in their entire lives. A scary thought for me is to have done nothing with my life and to stay in the same town forever working a 9-5 job not having explored this amazing planet. Anyhow, Stay safe on your travels.
Mike Hunt ...i wish you safe travels and peace. its not the length of life that matters, its the Depth of life that counts. I now am back into civilization, hate it. I long for the silence ...i shall earn money and disappear again lol. And stay gone! Be safe fellow path finder
A dreamer with the balls to live the Walden romance of self sufficiency in the most basic form. Even Henry Thoreau lived in a cabin with the creature comforts of his time. Hats off to you Chris...you have inspired me and many more, much love!
Fala sério... Assisti de novo Into the Wild ontem e ainda tô com aquela deprê pós filme, sabe? Nó na garganta... Que vida, que caminhada... Sem palavras!
I wouldn't say he is a hero.. Cause he is not. What he is, is an inspiration to other people. What he did, many can't do. You're right, he was free. But he was also alone. Only in the end did he realise the most important thing: "Happiness is only real when shared". He teached everyone a very important lesson tough, and I admire his aproach on the world.
I have a deep admiration for anyone brave enough to release himself from the obvious and actually think for his own. You don' t have to make the right choice all the time, but you need to be sure of your own ideas by the time you choose. Free thinking, man... that's the only and ultimate freedom we need.
How do you it has "gone wrong"? Maybe this was just the perfect thing he needed to experience in this life? Maybe this was his fulfillment? And if he didn't there would also not have been a movie made that inspired thousands.
The idealism never went wrong it was an unfortunate accident which happened to him, which could happen to anyone. The most important thing which the story signifies is the fact that one must always take a journey of self realization, as we are surrounded by people we are constantly distracted sometimes so much that we never really speak to our self and understand that person inside us. I believe he finally understood what it meant and hence those lines he wrote
we all admire Chris. for our own reasons. I wish I could just leave it all. society your a selfish breed. and yet here we all sit wishing, drop the phones or the mouse or whatever you are on and roam. discover the earth and all its Wonder's.
Let the wealth grow until it blows them away; util they're stripped from their human dignities, until they can't see a struck sun by day. Then, and for only then, Will the world not be bitten by its own teeth; Swallowed by its own pride, Cuz their now dead like the pie they left to die.
He was a special person...was in search for their freedom and happiness and found that there is no happiness if not shared ... this was the lesson left by him.
VIVIO Intensamente!! asi quiero vivir y morir..
So now, after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual revolution. No longer to be poisoned by civilization, he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild.
+Aryanto Yoga that's the stupidest thing i've ever read...happiness is whatever makes you happy...if looking at the goddamn tree makes you happy then you'll look at the goddamn tree!
@Julia.dreaming- every day you travel ALONE. the adventure is that you KNOW this instead of thinking you are safe and isolated from reality- that is the lie we tell ourselves in the notion that we arent living. Chris McCandless never lived to understand this. Enjoy the sounds of life, the bitterness, the wonder- from a childs laugh to a homeless mans eyes searching, even your own pain- it is an experience that is unique. One day your life and mine will end, and the experience will pass...
This song, this movie, the actor, Alex Supertramp, this journey, this thought...are all on another level altogether. We all learn what we want from them, yet everything we learn can free us. Balm to the spirit and soul, this is.
To find God... every path is ok... the best path is the one of love Love others... always... no matter how they are... no matter what they do... Always love... Well... not that easy actually! :)
+m4d3y3m00dy i'm not the holder of the truth, but not every path is ok, that's what people want you to think, to live life your own way to the fullest, that's a good philosofy but not necessarily the right path, actually i don't wanna sound religious but everyone has a purpose and it's your choice to walk by it, either way, i can't tell you what's right or wrong, you wouldn't believe me and you shouldn't since i'm just a man, if you really wanna find about the truth u should ask God, the real and almighty one! maybe read a bit about him in the bible if you believe in it. I totally agree about loving others no matter what though, have a good day sir.
Maybe I was not clear... every path is ok as every path makes you grow up spiritually... every path changes your consciousness... also if you're an atheist... whatever you do in your life... and you get nearer and nearer to the Divine inside... life after life... that's the trick... :) Nothing to believe in... just something to experience... when you'll begin to see the light inside and you'll realize your Divine essence... you'll get it! Not before... :) Of course I completely agree about the fact everybody has to live life his/her own way to the fullest... :) Namasté P.S. yes... sanskrit is a part of the truth... my own experience :)
The right path is the one that the individual walking it perceives is the right path. It is not for another to pass judgement for what seems wrong to you, may not be wrong for the one travelling their path. No one has a "purpose' as that suggests that everything is preordained and there is no Free Will. You can ask whatever God you worship all you wish but I would question your sanity if you think you are getting an answer. I think it's funny that you only cite the Bible as an example of where to find truth. Your mind is still too programmed and closed to accept the message in Christopher MCcandless' story.
Joel Flanders that's why I told you to ask God the one and above all yourself, you could even find a few answers among the science, but I can't convince you, you can tell yourself all day long that every path leads to God my friend, and I won't judge you for that, but that won't make it anywhere near the truth, we will all find out for sure when we die, I don't mind you "questioning my sanity" and I'm also not afraid of death, because I know where I'm going. The way is narrow and hard to cross, unfortunately I don't expect many people to do it... have a wonderful day :)
Cris' did something not many people do, he lived his life to the fullest. he opend many eyes with his story, and every time i see the movie i want to live my life just like him. he was only 24 when he died butt i think i had a more interesting life than we will ever have. to bad he couldn't tell his story in person, Rest In Peace.
@TsasaaTs Yeah sure he could have donated it, but that's not the point. It was symbolism on his part and us "young people" do not "worship" Supertramp, we look to him because he exemplified how one lives life in respect to themselves and the nature around us rather than becoming corporate drones enduring unhappy circumstances just to keep our heads above water. He stands as an ultimate sign of human freedom and liberation from the struggles of everyday life structured and unnecessarily complicated by fellow men. He dared to break the ties that many cannot and he is an inspiration to many including "young people" because most " young people" are still looking for a way out before it's too late, man.
+Rodrigo Valenzuela Galaz Great pics from the Alexander Supertramp. I would like to be like him. =( haha but the society fucks me. I do not know how to live all alone :(
bless you Michael. I run a skydiving centre in England, but we close for winter. I toss a coin and go wherever it lands. last year I did Vietnam, Laos and C Cambodia. This year its China Burma and South Korea. check out skydivenorthwest. and come and visit. I promise I wont make you jump from a plane. Safe travels my friend
Definitely wait until you are a full grown man, I back pack across the country every summer and some of the things I've seen and dealt with, well if I was 14 I would've been in deep you know what. Follow your dreams and most importantly Jesus Christ.
I think it's more heroic to separate ourselves from society than many other things. It's really really harder to be totally on our own, than stay with other people. Extremely harder.
Never a book and movie marked me so much like "Into the wild".
McCandless chaged forever my way of thinking.

Have no fear
For when I'm alone
I'll be better off
Than I was before
I've got this light
I'll be around to grow
Who I was before
I cannot recall
Long nights allow
Me to feel I'm falling
I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel I'm falling
I am falling
safely to the ground
I'll take this soul
That's inside me now
Like a brand new friend
I'll forever know
I've got this life

this guy had such an important potential to help society change it's way, but unfortunally didn't make it farder... wish we all can see many like him around one day!
This is beatiful and the sam time sad and the same time awesome...A lot of feelings run inside my body when i hear THIS son and see all this picrtures of this ameazing guy :') R.I.P Alexander Supertram
I wish I'd had the strength and courage to travel alone - to go step by step into this wonderful life. But I'm stuck here always at the same place and dream of the big world - knowing I will never be ready to take the first step.. but I dream on - what a wonderful movie - wonderful Sound..
Julia.dreaming YOu could always go out mate :)
Anything is possible if you feel it with your heart :)
two words: great man!
Ripix300 No word - because hes incredible
the song is beautiful...but i feel so bad when i think about this film ... :(
Why does it make you feel bad?
Alexander Lange when i watch this film, in the last part, i think he will come back your home, but he die,...it is not happy ending.
on other hand, it is suitable with film's name if he collect something when he come back.
It is all in my opinion.
Hạ Dương
:( Yes for this i feel bad ,,,and because is a true story :(
Alexander Lange
because in the and this story is true ! he die :/
Yea i know, but he finally gets is question answared. It is a bit of a sad ending but he found what he was looking for and he had alot of good memories.
He died with a smile on his lips :)
what if I were smiling and running into your arms, would you see then what I see now... (R.I.P CHRISTOPHER)
Hikmet SAYGIN 💚
Gives me hope if everything fucks up i can live this life!
All of you should understand that whatever happens you can look the other way and start a fresh life somewhere.
YOU are NOT trapped in your situation! You are free!
Nice words. Sometimes is just realy hard to realise it =P But I totaly agree with U mate =)
Can anybody write lyrics like Eddie Vedder?! What a gift his music is to the world.
when I saw these pictures of Alexander Supertramp, I was starting to cry.. what an amazing boy! Supertramp u are living on us..
Give All to Have All.
im guessing either Chiang mai or Chiang rai... lived in CM and loved it!
+Mass Frat - Yup, ChiangMai.
i knew it becoz its one of the most livable beautiful cities I think in Asia. I plan to visit again soon. Cheers!
Cheers.
Eddie touch my heart and soul ...
great song and since christopher saw life throught his own eyes, it makes him a great person. All the critics in the world dont matter, he saw life how he wanted and lived it how he wanted, he was an individual with individuality...and every man on the face of earth that has that will surely get my respect.
Impossible hear it and not be moved, do not feel the soul...
this movie..
Supertramp :)
Débora Santos supertramp ;(
I watched this film in in winter 2011 ...i pleaded to my partner we had to just leave..but i think this overwhelmed him, he saw something awoken inside of me.
The pictures of Chris make me cry so hard... He's such a role model.
A dreamer with the balls to live the Walden romance of self sufficiency in the most basic form. Even Henry Thoreau lived in a cabin with the creature comforts of his time. Hats off to you Chris...you have inspired me and many more, much love!
If Chris never took this pilgrimage, alot of people wouldnt have been inspired by his story. R.I.P
Assisti de novo Into the Wild ontem e ainda tô com aquela deprê pós filme, sabe? Nó na garganta... Que vida, que caminhada... Sem palavras!
muito fodaaaaaaaaaaaaa
FODA É OUVIR ESSA MUSICA A NOITE ANTES DE DORMI.VC NÃO CONSEGUE DORMIR,FICA SÓ PENSANDO,PENSANDO...
A touching story of young idealism gone wrong. I love his philosophy but nature is indifferent to philosophy and is hard and merciless at times.
How do you it has "gone wrong"? Maybe this was just the perfect thing he needed to experience in this life? Maybe this was his fulfillment?
And if he didn't there would also not have been a movie made that inspired thousands.
lokanoda He said in his own notes that it had gone wrong. He wanted to go home in the end and couldn't.
I believe he finally understood what it meant and hence those lines he wrote
at least he lived and died by his ideal
dddvbbb at least nature killed him, not society
:P
It just soo sad the way he died...
i seriously have unconditional love for this man and his story! R.I.P. Christopher.
And the God sends us Eddie Vedder! Incredible song!
historia perfeita musica interpretaçao inpecavel parabens
we all admire Chris. for our own reasons.
Then, and for only then,
Will the world not be bitten by its own teeth;
Swallowed by its own pride,
Cuz their now dead like the pie they left to die.
Christopher Johnson McCandless R.I.P GOOD MAN
Alexander Supertramp
He was a special person...was in search for their freedom and happiness and found that there is no happiness if not shared ... this was the lesson left by him.
Beautiful and so so sad... :((
Only the good die young. RIP Chris
did you know him or do you just assume that he was good?
Tom Hoslos there's a book about him and a movie called into the wild you should check it out
Todd Beer It wasn't ment for you pal...It was for Tom Hoslos.😧
RIP Alexander Supertramp. Every time i see an airoplane trail i think of you. Your story inspired me to roam. mushlove.
VIVIO Intensamente!! asi quiero vivir y morir..
So now, after two rambling years
comes the final and greatest adventure.
The climactic battle to kill
the false being within
and victoriously conclude
the spiritual revolution.
No longer to be poisoned
by civilization, he flees,
and walks alone
upon the land to become
lost in the wild.
the Only time i feel alone is when i am around people..
but the happiness is only real when shared
+Aryanto Yoga
that's the stupidest thing i've ever read...happiness is whatever makes you happy...if looking at the goddamn tree makes you happy then you'll look at the goddamn tree!
dawnriddler Bruh it's in the movie....
dawnriddler would you enjoy life if you were the only sentient being alive?Would that life be enjoyable at all or even worth living? Think about it.
My Superhero!!
a SMILE in every photo, he may have died younf, but he died happily with experiences we could only dream of, an amazing idol!
Alexander Supertramp!!!
Thanks Eddie, thanks for making me cry and/or smile every time I hear this song.
This song, this movie, the actor, Alex Supertramp, this journey, this thought...are all on another level altogether. We all learn what we want from them, yet everything we learn can free us. Balm to the spirit and soul, this is.
I start this journey to find God by realizing I know nothing about him...
To find God... every path is ok... the best path is the one of love
Love others... always... no matter how they are... no matter what they do...
Nothing to believe in... just something to experience... when you'll begin to see the light inside and you'll realize your Divine essence... you'll get it! Not before... :)
Of course I completely agree about the fact everybody has to live life his/her own way to the fullest... :)
Namasté
P.S. yes... sanskrit is a part of the truth... my own experience :)
It's a little sad to see so many people arguing on an Eddie Vedder video, especially this one. Lighten up a little guys ;)
Cris' did something not many people do, he lived his life to the fullest.
he opend many eyes with his story, and every time i see the movie i want to live my life just like him.
he was only 24 when he died butt i think i had a more interesting life than we will ever have.
to bad he couldn't tell his story in person,
Rest In Peace.
@TsasaaTs
Yeah sure he could have donated it, but that's not the point.
He did donate most of his money to charity before he left.
Moruk bence adam en yaşanası hayatı yaşamış !!!!!!......
This is a perfect example of the kind of life that a visionary can live. It is not perfect for him but it opens our eyes to new approaches,

Chris McCandless inspires me to think of freedom as being sincere with your dreams and your inner voice.
no
no
no
no
i wanna go and travel the world my own but im scared only 14 years old
***** yeah thanks
Definitely wait until you are a full grown man, I back pack across the country every summer and some of the things I've seen and dealt with, well if I was 14 I would've been in deep you know what. Follow your dreams and most importantly Jesus Christ.
+Rodrigo Olival studies first :)
+ryan smith Would like the share a travel story?
+ryan smith I'd love to hear a story
I think it's more heroic to separate ourselves from society than many other things. It's really really harder to be totally on our own, than stay with other people. Extremely harder.
Happiness it's only real when shared... this film changed my life...
Eddys music and Chris story give me strengh, to beliefe in myself, and to start living life... Thanks
45years ago that great man was born. Happy birhday Chris!
NON CI SONO PAROLE PER DESCRIVERE LA BELLEZZA DI INTO THE WILD. è TUTTO, è LA VITA PER ME. E CHE CANZONI.... GRAZIE CHRIS!!!!
