    Very strange that he would say that PBR isn't possible to do on the Switch at 60 FPS, when literally every Nintendo EPD game uses it, including their 60 FPS titles like Splatoon 2/3 and Super Mario Odyssey. I'm pretty sure PBR has been part of EPD's pipeline since the Wii U days. Subjectively, it's probably why EPD's Wii U and Switch games look noticeably better than PS3/X360 games. Games like Skyrim (even Special Edition) and Tomb Raider 2013 look woefully outdated next to, say, Breath of the Wild, simply because BotW uses PBR materials (and a lot of other modern techniques) while Skyrim and Tomb Raider were released before these techniques became standard in games.

      Prime 2 on GCN removed most of the vertex lighting from Prime 1 already. For what reason? I have no idea. Sure, the environments and models seemed to consist of more details than Prime 1, but not to such a degree that it was worth it IMO, the lack of dynamic lights seriously detracts from the overall atmosphere. It is one of the main reasons I always thought the game looked worse than Prime 1, even when I was a kid.
      Then Prime 3 came along on the Wii and removed dynamic lights even more. But at least you could actually see a noticeable increase in detail and bloom lighting (though the dynamic lights were still sorely missed).

    I never played Prime back in the day. I played about an hour on the Switch. Do you scan everything basically the whole game? I dropped it cause it seemed tedious as hell.

    • @dancarter5775
      @dancarter5775 Рік тому +3

      The scanning is for lore, for weakness information, and for machine activation. You don't have to scan everything, but it can save you if you do. Having trouble on a boss? Scan it and read the info. If your goal is to scan everything, especially because of certain missables, it's tedious. But if you play it in a more "normal" way, it will blow your mind.
      As an example, I believe the scanner is only needed 3 times in the tutorial, going normally. Then it depends on your routes and progress.

      There are a few items that can be missed but getting all critical scans and all items gets your 100% completion and the best ending.

      The mirror was a very low rez texture on top of the mirror, not even an actual low rez reflection of samus. If they got away with it is because nobody minds with those old graphics. Nowadays they would have to do something much better, more complex, in order to get away with a convincing reflection, and the Swtich just can't handle that.
      And it's the same with the light of the beams. The way games worked at the time, and how they work now is very different, something that was very doable before, now is very expensive for the hardware because it has to look more real (and the compromises made in the gamecube version are not as obvious because we didn't know what was lost to get what we got, but now we know that basically it was either the illumination on the shots, or the modern updated graphics).
