  • This garden tour is the first look at my side garden and I am just beginning to see everything flush out with blooms. I love a purple and white flower scheme and this side garden is looking lovely.
    How is your garden going this spring? Let me know in the comments what color scheme you use in your flower garden.

    I love the cottage style but was always told it doesn't work in Florida but you have proven them wrong and given me hope of creating my own cottage garden here is St. Pete.

      So far I think the trick is two-fold. First I had to realize that the beautiful cottage flowers I love don't like heat so plant them earlier in the season and expect that they won't last the entire season. And also, plant 'full sun' in half day sun to avoid burning. This has worked with my hydrangea in the front garden that everyone told me couldn't grow here in 9b, but it's getting morning sun till around 11am and it blooms perfectly and looks healthy. Look for purple Salvia, and Angelonia, they give a cottage look and usually can hold up to the heat longer than some other cottage style flowers. Good luck friend!

    I am in 9b with a cottage garden. It is in full sun & quite a challenge. I enjoyed your video. I have some of the same the same flowers with lots of white also.
    I gave up on pintas, they die when it gets cold.

      These get some sun from mid day to early evening and have done well. The plants that will thrive in full sun will depend on your zone and the amount of heat you get but here in FL zone 9b I love Pentas because they come in a variety of colors, and Angelonia because of their beautiful purple flowers. Both are full sun and do well here in my area.

    • @goodehome

      It may need more hours of direct sunlight. I fine mine need more than 6 hours a day. It could also be in need of fertilizer. Hope that is helpful.

    Hydrangeas grow in sun? I am in zone 9 in Florida kind of west central. I thought they had to grow in shade..just asking, I want to grow some really bad but always thought it was to hot here.

    • @goodehome
      @goodehome  2 роки тому

      Yes but they only get morning sun. The mid afternoon is too hot. They will scorch. Also If you do plant them, be sure that you water them when the sun has passed because the water droplets on the leaves could also scorch in the Sun. Hopefully you will have some luck with them if you give them a try. Wishing you the best.

      I would love to grow hydrangea but always thought here in 9B Florida it wasn’t possible. Do they show up at the local nurseries and any cultivars you would recommend. You have such a beautiful garden! Thank you for sharing it

    • @goodehome
      @goodehome  2 роки тому

      @@shamaem9540 I purchased them at Lowe's...I think Oak Leaf Hydrangea is the easiest to grow in FL. These I can't remember the cultivar name but I keep them watered very well and out of the extreme sun and they seem to do great.

      You might also try Annabelle hydrangeas. I have two in my yard in Oklahoma up against a fence on the south side. I water them a LOT because it’s HOT here! They get full sun for most of the day,but are getting a little shade in the late afternoon sun from other plants. I have found when a tag shows “full sun to partial shade,” it means no full day sun! I am moving back to Panama City Beach soon and I am definitely going to try growing Annabelle’s there.
