Yes! I love how the first two movements are connected together! I've always felt that the D minor chord at the beginning of the Romanza fulfills the missing strong hypermeasure at the end of the first movement, but I haven't come across another conductor who makes this connection.

Was the opening with the Soprano Singer originally supposed to be part of Symphony 4? This is hands down my favorite version and whenever I listen to it without this opening it feels like something is missing.

Magnifique, mais pourquoi, hors les cellos, l’orchestre joue t il debout ?

What happened to Goethe? Also main tempo too fast. Executants cannot believe it, so often do not follow. Fine sound, though.

@@60bui I know those versions, I think it is a matter of taste. I like the clarity and joyful playing in this one.

This is how Schumann is supposed to sound exactly, that energy, that crispness, clarity, freshness. The 20th century interpretations you mentioned were too late-romanticised and it was just the common conducting style at that time, but not necessarily authentic.

@@Sibethoven Well said. Having been a professional cellist for 41 years I can't tell you how many thick, stodgy, slow and boring performances I've suffered through. You can hear and see the orchestra is having a blast.
