TICK NOTE: Due to the ferns, bracken and also livestock, I did a few tick checks during the first day and throughout the hike. I also carried tick tweezers.
😂first thought in my head when I saw that bracken. Ticks 🙄 We’ve got loads on Dartmoor this year 🤬 Now there’s a species I’m sure the planet could survive without
Well done! I know this foot path though I have never been to Britain... I watched videos from Simon a bloke in the wood walking this path and it is interesting to see your version. Looking forward to the next one!
Great to see you out on another adventure, it's a nice route through some great countryside :), Watch out for ticks when traversing overgrown paths especially through ferns ;)
A great warm up vid for us followers, Ben 😀 I'm looking forward to hearing how you got on with the Alpkit Pipedream 400. Be nice because I love it 😉 Some great paths already but, as you say. That bracken path was a slight worry. You'd think the relevant folks who maintain the paths would have maintained! 🙄
Another awesome video, Ben. Great intro and story telling…looking forward to watching the rest of the series. This one is on my bucket list! The tent blended in pretty well I thought and good tip about the sleeping bag - going to try that myself next time. 👍🏻
Well done on the first leg of your journey. Think you should have brought a machete with you to cut through the undergrowth. Great scenery along the way. Look forward to the next installment, Ben
Great start to the Peddars Way journey, Ben. You looked very chilled with it. And I realised it must be filmed in a UK summer as you had your fleece on and woolly mitts 😂🥶
Nice vid Ben! Made a good start to the trip and if I hadn't already done it, your footage would make me fancy giving it a go! Looking forward to seeing how you get on for the rest of the trip👍🏼 Dan
Great Video, Loved the peddars way, definitely one I will do again. Wasn't a hiker before I last I attempted it a mixture of this and your videos have given me the bug. Who knows maybe I will give the wild camping etc a go someday as well !!
Another great video, thanks Ben. I’ve just finished the 62 mile St. Cuthberts Way from the Scottish Borders to Lindisfarne (solo) but my next hike is going to be The Peddars Way with my significantly better half and our dog 🐕 so we’re enjoying your new series 👍
The St. Cuthberts Way is actually a cracking little trail. Strolling Steve did a good series about it recently which is worth watching if you get chance. As always Ben, it's a pleasure watching your videos thank you. We find them informative and inspiring and we're really looking forward to catching the next episode.
I hiked the Peddars Way as part of the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path national trail some years ago now, and I have to say it was probably the most boring 40 odd miles I've ever hiked haha! Flat, flat, flat, straight, straight, straight (flippin Romans!) tarmac, tarmac, tarmac, barely any views and loads of large estates full of doomed pheasants! The only respite was the very beautiful Castle Acre (excellent pub). The Norfolk Coast path is a total contrast though and well worth hiking. :) Thanks for the video - it reminded me never to do it again! (My parents live in Hunstanton, so I may well do the coast again some day.)
I’m glad I’m not the only one who found it so monotonous! There’s such a sense of just not getting anywhere! It’s nice to say I’ve done it. Definitely want to do the Coastal Path there. Thanks very much for watching Stephie 👍👍🥾🥾
@@benhikescamps Such a trudge! And not easy to find anywhere to wild camp - I ended up on a verge beside a busy road one night. I was impressed (and envious!) with the woodland you found, it looked really peaceful. I look forward to following along with your next adventures :)
Another excellent beginning! The scenery looks a lot like the wilds of Pennsylvania, although perhaps not as treacherous with explosive devices. I love the well-placed musical vignettes during the jaunt. Hoping you could include a rift from the The Smiths - maybe Louder than Bombs would be the appropriate album! 😀 Cheers from USA!
Nice one Ben. I see nothing has changed with regard to overgrown paths - I did part of this trail in 2010 and it was much the same in terms of how jungly it was! It really confused me at the time as I’d only just started out hiking/map reading etc.
I actually wondered if I’d taken a wrong turn but according to OS maps I was bang on. Just looked very abandoned and overgrown over my head. Just had to trust what I could feel beneath my feet and push through with body weight. Thanks for watching Laura.
Great video, Ben. Well done for walking 46 miles in a day. That's good going! I feel irritated that so many right of way walks are not properly maintained. Some around me are so treacherous, nobody can use them. They've been reported, but nothing get done. Your camp looked great, despite the soft ground. At least Norfolk is flat! 👏
Hi MR. Yes, I actually thought I'd taken a wrong turn because it was so bad. Just to clarify that I walked 20 miles and not 46 - that would be some going! There's a Part 2 and 3 still to come!
@@benhikescampsSorry Ben, I don't know why I typed 46, I knew you had done 20 miles! That's still brilliant, the most I've walked is 12 miles in a day. You have inspired me to do more walking and camping.
A great vid. Great to see you mentioning the gear you used. How do you find the single skin lanshan2 pro for condensation? Id gone for the heavier double skin to avoid this. Also see you have the pipedream 400 is that a good summer bag? A kit cjange made after the SDW?
Hi Laurence. I do like the L2 Pro but condensation can build up and then fall on you if the tent is shaken by wind or rain on the outside. When I've kept one side open though it's produced little or no condensation and given me a nice breeze. The nest door inner makes for good views too. The Pipedream 400 is a three season bag that could go down to 0 degrees or below I wager.
Brilliant vid Ben, there looking very professional! How do you find the Lashan in windy conditions, have you camped in exposed conditions with it yet? Also zip off shorts are brilliant for the UK, can add the bottoms whenever there are lots of ticks about, nettles etc.
Hi Multi. Thanks for that kind feedback. Have tried Lanshan on the coast in Kent and it coped pretty well with 40-50mph gusts. Was nervous though! Thinking of getting some of those zip-off trousers actually! Thanks for watching. 👍
3:25 i dont get it. if they'd put down boards to make a path, they should care about it? please report it to the council so fellow walkers will have an esier time

Really glad you’re doing hikes Ben. Gives us imaginary hikers a better idea of what some of these trails are like. 👍🏼
Glad to be of help 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous spot bud, this looks really great! 👏👏
Thanks Ervin!
Woohoo new video! Thanks for bringing us along. Looking forward to part 2 and the review on the new sleeping bag☺
Thanks Kimberly!
Nice one Ben, what’s your trail name?
Hamster.
Great video Ben and a nice spot for night 1! These long distance trails get addictive 😊
Thanks Rob. Yes I was pretty proud of my first night camp find! Part 2 coming very soon.
A very enjoyable part one Ben. The Angles way seems a lot better maintained than that nettlefest! Looking forward to part two.
Think I should have taken a machete. Thanks mate.

Many thanks Wolf!

Lovely stuff Ben, but I know what you mean about walking in a straight line 😊... that's why they don't cut the weeds back, it adds interest 🤣😉
Thanks HB!

Some great paths already but, as you say. That bracken path was a slight worry. You'd think the relevant folks who maintain the paths would have maintained! 🙄
Yes, was quite disappointed in the lack of maintenance. Thanks for watching Tim!
Yes we definitely found the same problem with some of the norfolk coastal being overgrown.
Seems to be common. Such a shame it’s not cut back.
Thanks for watching Carl.

Looks a bit overgrown in places it needs more footfall to keep it clear
Or just better maintenance. I've emailed National Trails.
@benhikescamps your email must have worked mate,I did the trail this weekend and the path has been cleared
You only have to say the word “Skittles” and my teeth have a “chewing on tin foil” reaction 😣
😂Sorry!
