GE makes one of these with a physical switch on the bulb. Bought one from Target a few years ago. So if you want one from a known brand that can be had locally, that’s an option. They’re around $15.

@Lassi Kinnunen 81 yh because he never mentioned how it differs in a cieling fixture to a wall outlet ,so i assume in usa its the same sort of circuit ,unlike the uk where cieling fixtures are wired diff to our wall sockets

@@girlsdrinkfeck He did mention how it will not work with a light that relies on a light switch so I am guessing ceiling fixtures are out of the question or a hit and miss at best. great for lights that are on mostly all the time and are needed even after power is out. Great for things like hallway and entry ways. Or where a path of light is important.

Back in the early 90's, I used to get plastic light bulbs at a candy and party store. It didn't use any batteries, but would light up if you touched the two circles on the bottom. I would put them in sockets and they worked perfectly fine. If they weren't pink or blue, you wouldn't know they were "hand powered" bulbs. They were also about two dollars.

Great video. I got one of these lights about 5 year’s ago. It even had solar panels on the bottom white part so you could charge it with a/c or solar. It worked for a couple of years until the battery would no longer hold a charge. By the way, I think your dog found his spot at 6:19 - laughed my donkey off!

If its LED they really went cheap on the battery if it only lasts 3 to 4 hours. I bought a 4 pack of LED lanterns on Amazon that use 3 AA batteries and they last for 40 hours. Not rechargeable but I'd rather change batteries than only have 3 hours of light and then screwed if the power is still out.

I think these are more for those times when an unplanned power outage that only lasts a few minutes occurs. For example, not that it's summer, power outages that only takes a minute or two might be more frequent, as a result of a lot of people using AC and the like. This basically ensures you still have light, if, for example you're in the bathroom shaving and the power goes out for a minute. I wouldn't say these are any good for long term power outages, like you'd get in the case of storms, floods, or other major events. Then, you'd be best off with a lantern.

@@humorinpolitics56 a blackout is when the power is completely cut a brown out is when the power is partially cut to your house. When someone says rolling black out or rolling Brown out they mean that say everyday at 8: 00pm your electricity goes out on purpose. Yes the electrical companies will sometimes cut people's power on purpose. I've never personally experienced it only heard about it online.
The reason they do this is because they can't send enough electricity for everyone when demand gets too high.

I am an electrician, just shove some wires in the second receptacle and when the breaker trips the power is back on. no need for a second lamp lol. Or use a jumper from neutral to both phases, but then you might trip a main or burn your house down, depends how qualified you are. btw a flashlight works pretty well too.

Wouldn't be an actual outrage. Your house is connected to a transformer just outside you need some continuity between hot a neutral for it to work. That happens in the coil of the transformer. The breaker test was pretty accurate. Unless you still have a overhead power line coming into your house that could get taken out, then your situation is accurate. Most outrages happen further into the grid though.

These light bulbs (can't say if its from the same manufacturer) are widely used here by the sellers in our night/flee market (by those who are not using any machinery) opposing to using the outdoor motors to power their lights. It's dependable, lightweight, doesn't shatter like normal bulbs does, and some of them comes with USB socket and can be powered with a mobile phone powerbank.

Now that there are soooo many diff options for this kind of lightbulb, do you think you might revisit this topic & do a side by side comparison/review of the diff options to consider?
I saw so many diff options when I was browsing Amazon, it was hard to decide. For example…
    1. Cool vs Soft White
    2. Button/switch control on the bulb
    3. Various battery size: 2000mAh - 6000mAh (4hr - 36hrs)
    4. Remote control
    5. Charging port on bulb
    6. Dimmable (to prolong battery life)
    7. Included accessories: socket extension (to hold like flashlight), cap for lamp plug, socket hanger, socket stand (some magnetic), etc.
    8.

these will still work when alone on circuit (or multiples on circuit) as long as it senses the resistance from utility transformer. The ones I have put out a constant 3v and if it is pulled down anywhere below that, the light will switch on. (for instance, if you connect 2 of these together, they will not switch on unless one of them is reversed polarity) You can test this with a voltmeter set to DC to detect the voltage coming out of bulb.

I have a couple of these bulbs and one of those plug socket adapters that lets you plug a light bulb into an outlet. Good idea but I wish the battery lasted longer. I can always mod it when the battery dies.

It would make a great nightlight. Keep it on your nightstand or hang it on the bedpost. If you need to get up at night, you have a light that you can carry with you. Kids would love this.

Couldn't you just have used a GFI plug, instead of thowing the breaker?

Great Review as always. Could you review the new Ninja Creami? its a pretty cool ice cream maker that uses the same technology as a pacojet that costs upwards of 2-3 thousand dollars and the Creami only costs 200!

I got an LED bulb from IKEA and wasn't until I got home to put it in my lamp did I realize it was one of these. Except it has a button the side that you can press to turn it off and on. Also being an LED it doesn't ever actually ever get hot. Ikea one was like 12.99 called the TOSTHULT Rechargeable LED bulb. I know there are tons of others though.

This is a prequel of what’s to come, but I don’t think this lightbulb is ready yet.

Inside there will probably be seperate led lights inside for the battery to power. I have a portable bulb that runs off one AA battery. Doesn't go into a lamp tho.
