Thus album (Greatest Hits Vol 2) appeared in the second half of 71. This was the opening track, I seem to recall. I dug it instantly, even though it seemed like a bit of a stretch including a new release on an album of 'greatest hits'. I still love this song. So incredibly cool, and funny.
This fucking guy was just amazing in ways that nobody can even explain. I just listened to this 5 times in a row and I still can't wrap my head around why it's so good.
I tried to make a 'best of' for Dylan for my iPod and I couldn't get it under 45 songs and more than 3 hours lol Same problem with the Beatles, Ramones and Pink Floyd. What songs do you leave off?? Impossible mission.
Jesse Ed Davis just KILLS it on lead guitar. Just a fantastic song all around. Quite possibly my favorite Dylan song. Well I guess I can't really say that. There are just too many great ones. But this one is right up there...
Blues, country, folk, gospel, jazz, and rock are genres of music that Bob Dylan did, and he does it so well. Watching The River Flow is a fine example of Bob Dylan's blues sensibilities. It's a good song. Cheers!
Has never been a Bob Dylan fan... but I heard this on the oldies station the other day and it brought me back to when I was probably five years old when my dad used to play this 45 on a record player. What an awesome song and the memories it brings back 50 years ago. What an awesome Jam!!!

"Watching the River Flow", a blues rock song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Produced by Leon Russell, it was written and recorded during a session in March 1971 at the Blue Rock Studio in NYC, and released (as a single) on 3 June, 1971 on the Columbia label. ua-cam.com/video/_xRlojtDdEs/v-deo.html
Lyrics (in full):
What’s the matter with me
I don’t have much to say
Daylight sneakin’ through the window
And I’m still in this all-night café
Walkin’ to and fro beneath the moon
Out to where the trucks are rollin’ slow
To sit down on this bank of sand
And watch the river flow
Wish I was back in the city
Instead of this old bank of sand
With the sun beating down over the chimney tops
And the one I love so close at hand
If I had wings and I could fly
I know where I would go
But right now I’ll just sit here so contentedly
And watch the river flow
People disagreeing on all just about everything, yeah
Makes you stop and all wonder why
Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street
Who just couldn’t help but cry
Oh, this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
And watch the river flow
People disagreeing everywhere you look
Makes you wanna stop and read a book
Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street
That was really shook
But this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
And watch the river flow
Watch the river flow
Watchin’ the river flow
Watchin’ the river flow
But I’ll sit down on this bank of sand
And watch the river flow
