Kelsey, if you are reading this . . . you have a HUGE fan base. Personally, I became one of those fans after watching you on Sevan's podcast. You came up short this year but DO NOT QUIT. I was there on Sunday. I bet there was around 1.5-2k people. That stadium seats almost 8k... I think it looks horrible compared to other venues because of less attendance AND a huge venue lol. We went last year and the venue was so much smaller. Made the vibes better! But honestly, I had tons of fun cheering and it was very easy to say hi to athletes haha.
Also, in general I'm not surprised. I live in Northern California and it was a big decision for me and my husband to go even though we're both fans. Living in CA is rough. Everything is expensive. Other than our friends in tech, seems like everyone is struggling to make ends meet. And have you seen our gas prices?? Driving to SoCal and back was about 16 hrs of driving! Thankfully, we stayed with friends. That is what made it possible. Think about Airbnb and hotel prices in CA on memorial day weekend... Also, we aren't going to Texas for the games. I would guess most Americans chose between semi-final or crossfit games.
p.s. Even with all of that, I wouldn't be surprised if CrossFit is waning as a sport (duh, no media team and awesome storylines except for UA-camrs like you guys and Sevan/Hiller etc)... They are not doing well in that space at all as a company/sport.
Unfortunately travel to and lodging in LA on Memorial Day weekend was likely cost-prohibitive for many. There are also high school and college graduations and graduation parties that weekend, some families have yearly traditions for Memorial Day that they have booked at least a year in advance. Also Carson is an outdoor venue and after what happened at Rogue with the weather I think a lot of people are hesitant to attend events that are 100% outdoors.

Great content. The group that owns CrossFit presently is treating it like a fitness fad. Fads burn bright for a while then die out. CF needs an owner that is 500 % in their belief and execution of the CF product and lifestyle.

Honestly, everything is sooo expensive now. Especially traveling to CA. And with Memorial Day weekend being a super cost inflated travel weekend it just can’t happen.

Such an amazing story and athlete! I do think having the event on a holiday weekend in a more expensive area hindered the attendance, but surprised there weren't more local people. Definitely sad compared to all the other events. It's hard when you don't have consistent dates for people to plan further in advance for.

On event attendance…I live about 20min away, but I had no idea it was happening here. Could be a me thing. I don’t do CrossFit, but your documentaries and UA-cam made me a fan. The open is like a better version of the Olympics in my mind, especially when we get the story lines and behind the scenes. I feel invested in these athletes stories. Real life super heroes!
The promotion could definitely be better. Where is all the hype leading up to the invent? I didn’t see any billboards, or anything on the radio. I didn’t see anything on UA-cam hyping the event. No info on when or where or how to get tickets. It feels like if you’re not in the CrossFit community you wouldn’t know. Can you think of any other sport where you have to be an active player in the minors or social leagues to even know about when the games are?
Whatever they did to promote in Oceana should be replicated. Now that I was tuned in this was happening I caught up on all the semis on UA-cam. Oceana looked so professional, so hype. I mean they had a full freaking halftime show. Oceana felt like NFL playoffs. The North America events looked like bingo at the local community center. Feels like no one wanted to spend any money to promote it and make it a prime time event. You have to spend to grow!
The fans shouldn’t have to seek out when and where events are happening. The information should come to us. Ppl are to busy with their lives.
The Semi’s were too expensive! I live in Northern California and it was going to cost me and my wife just a little over 2k to watch all 3 days. Keep in mind, that’s not including food. Thank you for this video, I truly appreciate the butter bros work!

I’m a huge CrossFit and just like last year, I made the drive from northern Cali to south Cali to watch semis. I was so sad with how little attendance it had this year, but I think a lot of that has to do with pricing. Tickets for the event this year were almost double of last year, have to pay everyday for parking with zero re-entry was just dumb. Also have you seen gas and lodging prices recently? I made a whole week out of this trip and I’m sure I spent more on tickets and parking than I did on Disneyland and Dodger game tickets that same week

Programming/team etc needs to change, She's got it all in there, just depends on who can bring the best out of you!!
There is no ads, you have to be really into the sport to get information on events, etc. CF puts so little effort into promoting the sport.
So much excitement with the team's, men's, and women's competitions. I'm a huge fan of Kelsey's, and after her performance in the last 2 events, I thought she had put herself into the top 8.

CrossFit isn’t just about fitness… it’s about luck or the draw on your judges. A lot of girls should have been no repped.. and they were allowed to get always with them cuz.. there judge was star stuck instead of actually watching what was going on.
Yes, and that's about poor management from HQ (Boz/Castro) on informing (to athletes and judges) clear standards and enforcing them consistently.
How come the top 11 athletes made it to the games on the east coast semi final? That seems a little unfair

And I do think is alarming that empty stadium. I'm going to read the comments of those that share why they didn't go.
I think attendance comes from two things: cost and media presence. Don’t really feel like cost deserves an explanation, every aspect of the sport is just hard to afford. Media stems from them firing everyone, which is just stupid for a sport that’s trying to grow. I mean in a world where media is making millions for people and is taking every sport to another level profits wise, why on earth would you get rid of your easiest source to get more income. Also there doesn’t really feel like there is any hype anymore that’s being built, I mean unless you eat and sleep CrossFit or watch all the independent creators in the space there isn’t really anyway to know about these events. It’s a shame because the sport has a ton of potential but it just feels like the people at the top are falling short on that. Maybe you can blame some of it on Covid, but there’s still a lot that falls on whoever is managing the show.
Besides all that, awesome vid guys. Kelsey is someone I’ve watched for years now, so it’s really dope seeing a closer look at her. I’ll never understand how CrossFit can watch you guys and not want to have you lead their media or at the very least make a doc to build a fanbase or something for them. I genuinely think you guys are some of the few making it entertaining to watch.

Dang how sad. I was there in Carson for 2014 games and it was insane how many people were there. I also went to semi’s last year in cali and it was pretty packed but still lots of space. Where did all the people go? 😢
I didn’t go this year cause I was celebrating my besties graduation in Disney. Nothing can compare to Disneyland 😂😂😂. Haley Adam’s knows Disney is life!

Kelsey still did an amazing job! She may not have gotten to the top on the first try, but, next year she will get inside the top 8 and that will be that. I think you definitely need a day of training with Justin to make sure he gets back on the podium this year. He's just not allowed to count any of the Bros' deadlifts...
I live in Illinois. I thought 💭 about going out to California by plane or driving to Tennessee (8.5 hour drive) but decided to stay home and watch events.
It was hella empty there! I watched the kickoff day 1 and could easily spot Mars bouncing around in his bright pink fit.
The lack of attendance highlights the need to bring the games to Europe. It was a full house, awesome atmosphere. CF needs to get brave, widen horizons and capitalise.
It was so empty compared to the other events. Probably so empty due to Memorial weekend.
Crossfit is absolutely TRASH at advertising the sport. If the sport had more advertisement it would have so many more people attending these or watching

Reason I didn’t go to WCC. It’s just money man. Tickets were expensive. Fights fine, but then hotel, car rental, PAYING FOR PARKING. LA traffic sucks. While Carson is a staple of CF history, that was 16’ economy not 24’ economy.
Buttery Bros are why I watch and got into crossfit for sure! For attendance, what was the cost? I live in Ft Worth, retired, and would love to go to the games. An all events ticket is $700+ FOR A NOSEBLEEDER SECTION. No way in hell im going. I'll watch the totally shitty UA-cam broadcast. If the live events announcing is as bad as youtube, then there's a possible answer cause i bet 90% of fans are not rookies. Maybe if those people who ran CF were not jaw-jacking on youtube and podcasts constantly, there would be more getting done.

The fact this wasn't as popular is 100% down to CF headquarters. The livestreams are not great quality, the rules are confusing, they raise prices but not the quality overall, judges decide events by mistakes which ruin careers/events, every year it's different....
I love to watch CF but they need to step up their game....
The youtube is keeping CF relevant, look at carrichey, buttery bros, Justin etc etc.
Without that CF isn't doing shit for the athletes and scene tbh to grow durable

Would have loved to go but I have 3 reasons why I couldn’t.
1) I live in Louisiana and flights are expensive
2) my wife is pregnant with our second child
3) I have a four year old

CrossFit hasn’t recovered after all the controversies, and the “professional” judging always screws up, no consistency in the standards - result = has made the elite level - just not that interesting watching anymore. CrossFit the brand - gone in the next 10 years.
I tore my groin up on rope climbs. Terrible! Top tip: don’t wear leggings for a while. Every-time I pulled them off I felt the scabs coming off. 🤢🤮

I honestly think Dave should take over as CEO of CFHQ. I think he can bring the excitement back to the sport.
The template to get people back to supporting CrossFit is simple. Go back to what worked, have a banging media crew. Not only does it raise CrossFit profile again but they can also control the narrative. Simple.

I think California, with the exception of when the Games were held in Carson, has never really showed up for CFG events. Over saturation? Too many other things going on? I don't think it has anything to do with the interest in CF or CFG in general, however. But that's always a juicy story line to poke at.
Actually, that's not the case. I went to the last Regionals held in San Jose, and it was sold out in advance, and the tickets were one fourth the price that they are now for the West and East N.A. Semifinals. Plus $40 for parking. Get real!
Not sure what happened in West Coast Classic but I watched all the other semi-finals and by far there were more people in all the other venues. Brazil was crazy tho!
I live relatively local and I really wanted to go but the cost of the tickets was the blocker for me. Unfortunately with costs rising everywhere somethings have to be cut and this was just a luxury.

It's really not that concerning that it was a low turn out. PRoblem is the west section is so spread out that it makes it hard for people to make the trip to watch the event. If we still had regionals the turn out at each region would be probably double or triple that at each venue.

It was Memorial Day Weekend and I think alot of crossfiters went out of town!
Technically it's the Western United States, Canada and Mexico.
Question; how come some semifinals took top 10 and some only took top 8?!
Strength of field. I think they looked at where the semifinal qualifiers ranked in quarterfinals and adjusted how many qualifying spots there were from that. I think that's why South America had 3 spots this year.

Please do a video on “Who is Abigail Domit?”! Great content guys! My heart ♥️ goes out to Kelsey! I felt like I was experiencing the Semifinals with her… the excitement, the vulnerability, and the heartbreak 💔! Didn’t go to Semi’s this weekend because it was backbreaking work to sit and spectate last year in Pasadena. Went to San Diego for some R&R. I always went to The Games when it was in Carson. The tennis stadium was always packed and everyone was jockeying for seats that the “Sea of Green” didn’t already reserve. LOL 😆!! I agree with the other comments… there was no hype leading up to Semi’s and media coverage for both West and East for Friday was extremely frustrating to follow. Adrian Conway did his best, but it was too much “telling” and not even ‘showing” 🫤.

Its definitely concerning the lack of people on this event. It should have been one of the most packed events but clearly CrossFit interest has dropped, it needs more mainstream attetion for it to survive in the future.

My opinion on the crowds is that in the other countries there’s only one competition right, and in the US there’s two. Even though you guys were in the historic arena for CrossFit people had to make a choice between the west or the east. Where Tia was going to compete. Let’s keep it 100 here everyone is phenomenal to watch but with the Tia and Laura battle coming I feel like people wanted to see what Tia looks like. Especially after the rogue. People want to know does Tia still got the juice. Just my opinion/ observation.
I think its the economy. Travel is expensive. Most people would be traveling only once so why not go to the finals? If the finals are poorly attended then I would worry. Europe has only one venue so all Europe would go to the Semi finals. USA has three venues, Semi east semi west and the finals. People have to make choices.
Disliking Kelsey would be like disliking puppies, sunrises and fresh bread. Such a wonderful bloody human 💚
