And if I remember correctly there was a strategy using reverse or something like that, which made it really good. The original ff12 was so intentionally broken in certain ways, that there was a lot of crazy broken strategies.

You could fill this list with FF14 alone. I mean we had a moogle on a dinner fork in the intro clip. I also jest that an actual mid-50s crafted Dragoon weapon, Mythrie Pugil Stick, is a giant shower curtain rod.
All the moogle weapons are wonderful. My favorites are the books-when you go into attack stance the book opens up while making a ‘wub wub wub’ moogle sound.

Books. In FFIII you just attacked by hitting the enemy with them, which....works, it's just weird that they have higher attack power than staves and rods. In Tactics, they're ranged weapons, not because they're thrown, but because you attack by reading.
While merely a thrown item only, I'll give an honorable mention to the kitchen knife 🔪 from Yang's mom in FFIV. One guaranteed 9999 damage hit! It's also known as a spoon in older translations, similar to ye Olde spoony bard, making it even better.

That Kettle Quest was a worthy break from that grind for a single ARR relic weapon. The grind was real (kind of still is but pretty can solo 99% of it these days).

I remember doing so many FATES. For me, the Animus part was a drag. I think it was because of all the searching for specific enemies and FATES. I'm confused, when does Bahamut come into play for the Zodiac weapons?

Unsync solo Bahamut turns or extreme trials with your relic to gather aether. I don't remember the fates for Animus being particularly heinous, but I did them all in Heavensward, after they massively bumped the drop rate. Maybe I was spoiled.
Final Fantasy 14 has MANY weird and comical weapons, for sure. I still startle a bit every time I see that Conjurer staff that LOOKS BACK AT YOU. If I remember right, it also makes a unique sound if you auto attack with it - most staves get a "bonk" sound effect but I think (and I could easily be wrong) that staff yelps "ouch!" And I screeched out CHICKEN KNIFE when that showed on screen. Both the silliest thing in my glam collection AND the most awful attack in Shadowbringers as far as I'm concerned. I died SO MUCH to that darn knife in Heroes Gauntlet >.
Cait Sith's Megaphones were weird, and there's also Vanille's Binding Rods (I looked up the name). Officially they are a rod, but the wires that swing off them are designed to bind the enemy.
Not the first one to say it, but I would include Rinoa using her dog as a projectile, technically not an equipable weapon, but one of the weirdest things I've seen to date

I finally got past the cringe and completed FFX-2 Rikku as a festivalist can attach with cotton candy and goldfish bombs and if you put Brother in the party he butt bumps things while dancing humorously.
I came here expecting this weapon on the list, my best guess was it was some sort of hunting weapon that would reel out and throw hooks into prey but who knows. Cool af design though.

Come on, there's no way that Setzer's gambling items are more unique than Relm's paintbrushes. Search your soul, you know it to be true. Of course, Anastasia Romanov's Faberge eggs in Shadow Hearts 2 is the absolute king of odd/unique JRPG weapons... and if you haven't played it you should, one of the rare JRPGs I would compare to Chrono Trigger in terms of raw excellence in every area.
If we are to include non mainline titles, FFBE has a few ones like a bouquet (axe) and a microphone stand (hammer), and while not really weird but just interesting, FFT has bags.
Shame the afrosword didn't try something clever like a sound blast on crit or something just playing someones music feels like too little reward for so much effort
A magic class that uses dolls would be kinda cool.. maybe they can be called the puppeteer? Controlling the doll to attack and cast magic And you can put them down and the puppeteer can move their arms around to make them attack

Opera Omnia has a few that are basically paid skins that come with gems. A paddle (sword), giant pumpkin lollipop and snowboard (greatsword), chocobo themed popsicle and a fan (gagger, presents (thrown weapons), a sunflower (Staff), cactuar (gun)... And then there's "source material weapons" that are associated with a given character, such as Cait Sith's megaphone, Yuffie's Paper Cranes, Y'shtola's stick, Lulu's doll, wakka's ball, etc.
I kinda wish you considered Kingdom Hearts as well, because the Casual Gear (and to a lesser extent, the Mystery Gear) from KH:Days would've been perfect. Casual Gear gives Demyx a tennis racket named "Prince of Awesome" instead of his Sitar and Lexaeus a giant squeaky hammer toy named "Bleep Bloop Bop". The joke weapons from that game are mint

idk if anybody remembers this, but for a long while there people were really salty about XI being an MMO and people who made FF content would just say it wasn't a "real" FF game and would just ignore anything involving it. FFXI I must have sunk hundreds of hours into back in the day, and I always felt like it's lore had this mysterious, eldritch, bleak vibe to it while it's story due to the time sink and difficulty soloing that game made you earn becoming a hero from a nobody. It's really unique in the series even with 14 around (cause that game is designed to be, wisely for retaining a big audience imo, way more user friendly and soloable) and I wish more people had embraced it instead of turning up their nose at it. They really missed a unique story, lore and overall immersive experience that'll probably never happen the way XI did again.
Hm I do recall how Afrojack apparently made a remix for FF8. Fingers crossed if the Afrosword will appear in FF8's remake. Man I loved Tactics and 8 for the ps1
the kettles are actually so easy to grind. I did it in like 2 hours. instead of the demanding several days it takes to grind to grind the zodiac relic you need to do first which will also cost you like a million gil easy unless you're an Omni crafter too.

The Kettle Knuckles....You've skipped half of it. You need to complete an ARR relic first before that quest even pops up.

Vanille's net orb in XIII was kind of weird. She just finds it lying around near the beginning of the game.

in FF4 there was a spoon that was a throwable for Edge called a Spoon in the US version (a kitchen knife in Japan) that did 9999 damage.

Forks were reference to FF4. In one of the older translations, Fork was the ultimate thrown weapon.

I love some of the strange weapons from Tactics. Attacking an enemy by reading a book at them is probably tops.
Frying pan in FF4, that stands out to me, although it is just a throw weapon.
I still love FFT's bags, lol. That was the best thing and how fun it is to see this female-only weapon used in-game.
the kettles are actually so easy to grind. I did it in like 2 hours. instead of the demanding several days it takes to grind to grind the zodiac relic you need to do first which will also cost you like a million gil easy unless you're an Omni crafter too.
So the song that really annoys me because it turns up so much instead of the OSTs I want to hear is by a famous RL artist. Interesting.
