  • How to change out your battery in your 2006-2011 Honda Civic. This was changed in a 2009 Honda Civic GX. After replacement, you will need to reset your clock (press clock and then adjust time through your radio selection buttons.) You will also need to reset your preset radio stations. Have your radio code available for entry before you begin. Just key it in through the presets once it asks you for it. Should be a four-five digit number.
    Remember your battery is typically good for no more than 4-5 years, better to switch the battery out earlier than later.
    Please wear safety goggles, glasses and handle the battery with gloves. Bring your old battery into the store where you purchased your new battery, they won't charge you for the core and you won't have to return it to get credit for your core charge.
    Save Money and have fun.
    51R type battery is recommended to be 450-500 cold-cranking amps (CCA) or more.

    I was told that at Canadian Tire they charge $40.00 as an installation labour charge. It seemed too much and I changed it myself with saving some money! Thanks!

    Helped me decide which aftermarket battery clampdown kit to buy, my used civic had a lazy owner who didn’t clamp it back, so I had no hold down clamp at all. Thanks for taking the time to help us out!

      hi dan, i'll just ask about the issue of my car when i changed the battery, the abs lights, parking brake lights on..how can i fix that issue for my civic 2006 honda ex?

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  7 років тому

      Mike, first I've heard a battery change causing the ABS light and parking brake light to stay on. The parking brake light is essentially a pin switch. There are some instructions online using a jumper wire on resetting the ABS light, but I would take it to a shop because the ABS system may have some malfunction and could be a safety issue. Sorry could not be of more help.

    The plastic hex does NOT just pull off. Its also a 10mm hex that removes which then allows it to be pulled off. (In a 2008 anyway)

  • @SirFixAlotAutos
    @SirFixAlotAutos  10 років тому

    Crystalsdivastyle, your alarm should not trigger, it should reset when you re-connect the negative terminal to a new battery. There may be something else that is triggering your alarm system but try to reconnect and then close all doors and lock and unlock the car by the remote. Also make sure the panic button on the key FOB is functioning correctly and is not sticking. Good Luck.

    Hi I have a 2006 Honda Civic hybrid and I bought the 151R with 370 CCA and it’s not starting. And my old battery which has been working is 51R with 500 CCA. Do you think I should stick with the old battery 51R instead?

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  Рік тому

      You should always go with what Honda specifies for CCA. Even at 370 CCA, a new battery should be able to crank the motor, there's something else that's wrong (fuse, relay, ground, etc.) Diagnose it or have someone diagnose it in person. Sorry, can't be of much help.

    I need to unplug the battery to reset the system (that's what i was told at o'relleys to turn the check engine light off) should i be wearing some sort of protection? will i get shocked?, thanks

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  6 років тому

      To disconnect the battery, just undo the negative side, you won't get shocked as long as you don't make a bridge between the negative and positive posts. Make sure the ignition is OFF.
      That being said, I have never heard this as a way to make a check engine light turn off. The check engine light is usually on because something is amiss and you have to "fix" that problem before clearing the check engine light. On most cars, erasing the fault code via an OBDII scanner will take care of the check engine light, but only after the problem is fixed (which the scanner will tell you.) Good Luck.

    • @pinchespice
      @pinchespice 6 років тому

      thank you, yes, the gas lid was not properly closed which caused the engine light to turn on, i took it to o'reilley's and that was what the scanner detected, I called the dealership and they wanted to charge me $210 just to do the same, any ways o'reilley's people said to disconnect the battery if light goes on again i will replace gas lid, thanks

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  5 років тому +1

      If you remove your battery and battery tray you should see a slot to put the hook into unless your platform has been replaced from a front end crash or something.

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  7 років тому

      There is usually a switch at the base of the parking brake lever which activates the parking brake light. You want to check that also.

    • @jamesjones732
      @jamesjones732 3 роки тому

      Disconnect the positive cable from your car battery. Then, hold down the brake pedal to drain the vehicle's electrical system. This will result in a reset of the car's central computer. Plug the cable back in to restore power.

  • @SirFixAlotAutos

    Hi Mike, The plastic hex bracket is a slip fit, it just slips over the stud which sticks up from the battery hold down. So just like shown, teeter it back and forth while pulling up and it will release. To put it back on, just push it back on, it grabs onto the metal threads from the battery hold down threads.
    If your question is how to remove it and replace it with a new plastic piece, you would need to clip it off or cut it off and then purchase a new part from the dealer and reattach. Hope this helps.

    Can't u change it with the engine is running?

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  9 років тому +1

      After some years, the original battery loses it's capability to charge through the alternator....in other words the battery won't take a charge any more. I wouldn't recommend keeping a battery until that failure mode, it's best to change them every 4-6 years and check the alternator to make sure that's working.

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  8 років тому +1

      +Helios77711 if the question was can you change the battery when the car is running, I wouldn't. It's not like it would blow up but the alternator is providing a charge so there could be some power coming in from one of the terminals. Just an extra "live wire" to deal with when the engine is on, so would not recommend.

    And then you're done. Naaaat! What about radio codes, immobilizers etc? What about the size of battery, mine seems awfully narrow, how do I fit a normal size battery there?

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos  2 роки тому

      My 2009 didn't need a radio code re-entered, but if yours does, then do so. There is no immobilizer as long as your remote key is operational. You must purchase a battery of the same size otherwise your bracket won't fit.

    • @nihorothereal
      @nihorothereal 2 роки тому

      @@SirFixAlotAutos Thanks. I was at first ready to put (convinced by my local shop guy) that such a small (narrow thus around 45-48 AH capacity) would not be enough legs for next winter and I would need -to steal again- a bigger one around 60 AH. But that would not be 14 cm anymore, but 17. I was almost convinced, got an old mech with me and surprising me positively the shop guy came out with the best offer ever - right dimesions but still larger capacity, so we settled with all parties very satisfied. My mech guy skimmed through my FN2 owners manual and said - your car does not have a code, so no need to have live charger cables while switching battery. I trusted him and it worked. Only thing so far to adjust was clock, which was conveniently already in edit mode, flashing. So, me happy. If there is something to change, it would be minuscule. Very happy with my towns local car parts shop guy being pragmatic, trusting and offering the best customer service I haven't seen in years. You know who you are and what you offered, that does not happen in other shops around here, I was baffled at start, but now I will not even try other shops first. This is not good customer service, this is excellent customer service. Palīgs, Bauska.
