For a game that runs a similar concept, but does it well, I'd suggest Coatl. In it, you're drafting serpent pieces to make a chain, trying to get the colors to line up to match cards for scoring points. But you do need to be able to complete the serpents to score and with the game ending once someone builds 3, you run the risk of not finishing and scoring if you try for too many goals. And as players have larger "hand" sizes as well as being able to work on multiple chains at the same time, there's a much greater sense of freedom and strategy. Plus, there's also the tactile bonus of the fun of assembling your serpents.

Some people have hardcore "Subs not Dubs" beliefs and I am cool with that, but as a PC gamer I like to be able to pay attention to the game with my eyes and simply listen to what is going on in the anime I am sort of watching on my second monitor. For that reason I will always respect English voice actors regardless of the drama that is going on in the English localization community.@@VoltexRB

That is a pretty cool looking box though. It's still mostly rectangular, so it can be stacked with the rest of the games, but it stands out.

The whole time he was explaining the rules I was thinking "I'd rather just play 'No Thanks' because it's essentially the same premise of taking and avoiding certain cards to make runs but with more elements of choice and playing the other players"

Oh, I thought this was going to be a fun mental math game where you make patterns or something. I thought those bet tokens were like "I get an extra point because I managed to make a pattern that was 3n" but, uh, guess not. That would be a fun math game though I think. Like poker, but algebra.

I think the game definitely has some interesting ideas.. maybe just needed a little bit more playtesting. I bet changing the hand-size and the size of the deck could have completely changed the feel of the game. I'm honestly surprised the rulebook doesn't suggest removing any cards for a 2 player game.

Looks fun. Most "board gamer" games have way too many fiddly-bits for me. A game doesn't have to have a 100 page rule-book to be challenging. Look at chess.

My main issue with the demo is that almost all of the damage that I took was because it was hard to judge distance or I got too close to something -- not because an enemy got me

I think they should fix the mechanic so that the game does not drag on for too long that it became stale.
