I remember watching your How to Improve Your Game guide and will never forget when you had a 44 Kill streak and the game ended on Ambush right before you were gonna kill that last guy from the staircase. You put the Saved by the bell music on. XD In any event, I went from a roughly .70 K/D to around 2.75 at the peak of my powers around 2013 thanks to you. I recently jumped back on an older different account and just like you said in this video, I went "How the f did I ever play this game?" It was so damn laggy and the frame rate is HORRIBLE. You may also be asking yourself, "People still f'ing play COD4 on PS3?!" YUP! It's unbelievable. But I'm def not the same player anymore. My K/D over about 24 hours worth of playing is 1.64. The game is also nearly unplayable unless you somehow pull host. It's crazy how much smoother playing something like COD4 remastered is with bots and then switching back to the PS3. A COD upload from Xcal is an instant watch and like for me. This takes me back! Way back! Out of every youtuber back in the Peak COD days, Xcal is the only one i have remained subscribed to.
Honestly despite all the frustrations this game caused when it was the mainline CoD game, it's really nothing compared to how poor the latest CoD games have been. The CoD developers now just seem very out of touch with the series, especially at Infinity Ward. The community isn't much better either. The frustrations we had in Black Ops, like Second Chance and Ghost, are nothing compared to the frustrations brought in new CoD's. Like just for example, we wanted Last Stand/Second Chance gone for YEARS, it finally happened in Black Ops 2 (if you count the stupid death streaks in MW3), then 10 years later, they bring it back in MWII... with self-revive, invulnerability when falling and the ability to move. Not only that, but it also requires more than one hit to kill a person in last stand in MWII, unlike old games were anything as little as a stun grenade could kill them AND if a teammate kills someone you put into Last Stand, they get the kill, and you only get an assist (this was changed in Black Ops with a patch, the only game to fix this behaviour) In Black Ops, Second Chance was EXTREMELY broken, forever had the community complaining and yet it's not nearly as bad as the MWII version... yet how often do you hear people complain about Last Stand in MWII? Basically never. I guess you can't get BlopShotted in MWII (killed by the players primary while they fall into Second Chance), and you can't use your pistol while in Last Stand either, but that was never really the problem with the perk anyway. Anyway, just a bit of a rant. Always loved your stuff Xcal, and your Black Ops stuff actually inspired me to use absolutely useless weapons, as well as heavily play the objective in games. I had like a 3K/D in Black Ops with my highest kill weapons being the Olympia, Scorpions and Uzi. I learned a lot of my first-person shooter skills from watching your videos back in the day.
Think another massive factor, at least for me, was the sheer lack of accessibility the newer CoDs just INSIST upon. I'm not talking about things like colourblind assist etc., I'm talking the weapon screen. As someone with ADHD, guns having (no exaggeration) 100 different attachments, taking AGES to get good stuff, with about 15 different menus to navigate through just completely put me off the newer ones (the most recent one I played to levels even CLOSE to the older stuff is MWR, and... yeah, no shit, it's because it's a reskinned old one XD). And that's not even mentioning the ridiculous battle passes & loot boxes (though that's a different conversation); the sheer amount of SHIT that's in the newer ones completely overwhelms me. I didn't mind the player base getting better, engagement-oriented matchmaking etc., so long as I was having fun, which, when you're neurospicy & battling with the menus constantly, for, let's be honest, kinda subpar gameplay... bleh. Like, back in the day, the games were smaller. Guns had like, 10 attachments at most, & they were simple. No 'your recoil reduces but your ADS movement speed does too', just 'grip - extra accuracy', or 'FMJ - bullets go through things'. And you could only have 1 (or 2 with Bling/Warlord)! Honestly, I think the devs these days are just FAR too concerned with making the games 'complex', like that's synonymous with 'interesting' (it really fuckin isn't when it's all jank), but they need to realise that no-one got time for admin when they wanna play. What made the old ones special was that you COULD focus on just playing & having fun, & if your setup wasn't working, there were a finite amount of things you could tweak, & you BARELY had to even think about it. Rant over. Love for Bruce! Any visit, however brief, to the good ol' days is a blessing :)
@@themetalgoddess 100% agree. Gunsmith is awful (although much better in Cold War) and the UI is so SO terrible. My biggest problems with these games are engagement based matchmaking, the UI and the gunsmith. The UI honestly gives me a headache. How they're getting away with releasing these games for full price packed to the brim with free to play elements is beyond me.
Pretty relatable vid. As life went on my love for multiplayer dwindled. I can still keep up with my friend's who never gave up cod, i still beat them when they want to challenge me but yeah the mechanical talent on the controller is tough to keep up
Went out to a used game store and bought an old xbox and all the cods I wanted to play again, put a good week in to them, and just returned them all for a refund. Forgot how nasty the games used to look, in my memory the games were crisp and HD.
I luckily got to catch the sudden BLOPS stream with Spoon and have to agree with you. It was one of the most entertaining streams I could remember in recent memory.

@@themetalgoddess 100% agree. Gunsmith is awful (although much better in Cold War) and the UI is so SO terrible.
My biggest problems with these games are engagement based matchmaking, the UI and the gunsmith.
The UI honestly gives me a headache. How they're getting away with releasing these games for full price packed to the brim with free to play elements is beyond me.

As life went on my love for multiplayer dwindled. I can still keep up with my friend's who never gave up cod, i still beat them when they want to challenge me but yeah the mechanical talent on the controller is tough to keep up
Went out to a used game store and bought an old xbox and all the cods I wanted to play again, put a good week in to them, and just returned them all for a refund. Forgot how nasty the games used to look, in my memory the games were crisp and HD.
I luckily got to catch the sudden BLOPS stream with Spoon and have to agree with you. It was one of the most entertaining streams I could remember in recent memory.
