I don't understand why people call it ugly and hate on it? it's brilliant, amazing and creative! Banksy is a genius, but well, not everyone is open mind, I see 😒
gabounex I agree. This is an absolutely stunning piece of art. It's something no one has ever thought of doing and makes one thing in life better. And that thing is inspiration. Even there's a movie set for it
This is brilliant. Disneyland is a manufactured happy place showing the artificial wonders of the world. Dismaland is the reality that is facing our very fractured world. And it's a huge wake up call for the everybody!
bonging Dude it isn't pretentious at all. It's Banksy. It's what he does. The idea of collating his and other Artists work is a great big fuck you to the Elite and their ilk. It's not meant to be a fun and happy place. If you want nice happy parks (I like them too) that's also fine. There are plenty of those including Alton Towers and Disney's very own DisneyLand. It's okay to be optimistic and to look at the good, but you also have to show the not so good. It's called balance my friend. Keep that in mind.
The fact that an outdated art piece about Princess Diana will "draw furious, offended headlines", and I'm sure it will, shows the media's warped priorities. Refugees are dying today, but newspapers would rather write about Diana.
+Alex Charlton Honestly connected that to Diana instantly, his art has so much effect on people. Surprising the boat piece with refugees hasn't been in the headlines, we should be more aware these things are actually happening. This park should be better publicized better, there is a strong message to be spread. It will cause outrage, i'm certain of it, a little controversy will do us no harm. We need to open our eyes to this harsh reality that many innocent people are suffering in. I agree that the media is "warped", couldn't have put it better myself.
They are warped and sadly most of the newspapers and the media are owned by the right, rich and powerful people who know that the real issues, the humanist issues, need to be hidden or dumbed down from us all otherwise the masses revolt. "How else to exit any amusement park without an exit from the gift shop". Definitely not ironic, Banksy's documentary is called Exit From the Gift Shop
If you've been to Disney World in Florida it's basically like this. Waiting for 4 hours to get on a 30 second ride in 90 degree temperature and charging $5 for water. I'm a little disappointed it seems to be more of a spoof of the idea of Disneyland rather than how legitimately terrible the actual experience is. It's a decent commentary but a little unnecessary to see this all you gotta do is go to Disneyland during tourist season.
+Lucetube GPlusStillSux It's my understanding that the policy has always existed at Disney World. Whether by law or company policy, they're not gonna let people die of heat stroke. And it's much the same at every amusement park I've ever visited.
Coming back to this years later, it’s interesting how Cinderellas piece mimics Princess Diana death, since the two are rather similar in character. So maybe stunning pieces I would love it to comeback!!!
This isn't particularly deep...the argument seems to be, bad things happen in the world, here are visual representations of it in the form of a parody of DisneyLand. Uh huh. And...what? I applaud the creativity but it's not that novel to take something happy like DisneyLand and just do the opposite of it.
David Richard I always sortve thought the same. It's like you see bad things but okay.... are we gunna do anything about it? Or did you just spend money to mock it. Why not just create a creative solution. Idk but then again art is just expression so it doesn't seem to need to serve a purpose. Idk.
To do it at this scale sounds pretty amazing actually. It's one thing to show it on a canvas in some art gallery, it's quite another to actually stand inside the art itself and experience it.
@@Popopatop Banksy DOES do something about it; he donates most of the proceeds from his art to charities, and so by buying his art or buying a ticket to dismaland we are helping to solve these issues.
great at last! `Well done Banksy. The history of that building in Weston is also very relevant. As a child I used to spend my summers there when it was the lido style 'Pool', we spent the whole day there for 30p and some climbed in for free over the wall. It was always packed with local kids. Then some local councillers sold it and turned it into the Tropicana! The price more than tripled and it never made money. All the local kids stopped going.
If Banksy's "social commentary" were lyrics he would be Sum 41. Basic middle school level pseudo intellectual bullshit for people to think is so deep. Seriously, this guy hasn't said an original thing in his life. His work is like if Hallmark made sarcastic anarchist greeting cards.
+Decosion here's one reason, aside from the fact you'd have worked under Banksy: most jobs require you to come in with a go-getter attitude, even if you feel dead inside. at this park, just come looking like you hate life and it fits the theme!

I love the statue of a sitting lady being attacked by masses of seagulls. It gets a bit like this in the nearest town to where I live if they know you've got some chips.
a great satirical criticism for disneyland, brilliant and original, this would be the perfect place to go in the vacations for Misery (from Ruby Gloom), HA HA HA.
Cool Britania indulging in it's wackadoodle swagger, this bizzare form of expression. Tapping into numerous aspects of Britishness replete with intimation.
This is absolutely great news for guys like me who is so sick and tired of Disney getting all of The Lovey Dovey attention. Now start building a brand new theme park called Real Dismal World.

The funny thing is that when people say they don’t like it, that it’s ugly, it’s like they don’t realise they’re living in it.
