No and its reflected in the type of society and country we have become. That's not a political statement but its reality of how people behave, what they respect, how we treat one another and how materialism has become our new God.
This area has obviously been unkempt & overgrown for quite some time; much the garbage can probably be attributed to people not even realizing that a graveyard is located there🤔
This is heartbreaking, thank-you for cleaning off some of the graves. You and Cody are angels on earth, you are respectful and caring for those who have passed.
So devastating to see the trash sitting around these graves. We have let down the earth and the souls resting there. Thank you guys for speaking their names! Hopefully the encourages residents to help with the trash removal.
If you were driving by you would have no idea this is here. In Columbus, Georgia on one of the “bad sides of town” and behind a Rent-A-Center and other business you will find the Nix Cemetery in a small patch of trees. Look for the dumpsters overflowing with trash and you will have found it. The sad thing is I think this cemetery underwent a clean up some time back. You couldn’t tell today. I was only able to locate 12 graves out there. There are supposed to be 27. I am sure the rest are in those trees. Down the alleyway behind the businesses I was able to locate the oldest grave - 1860. It can be found with a discarded Coca-Cola merchandising shelf carelessly discarded about the place a foot stone would go. Does any of this shock me? No. Many old and no so old cemeteries suffer the same fate. It is interesting to look upon all of this and wonder what those buried there would think about the world around them. A search of microfilms of Columbus, Ga. newspapers at the Bradley Memorial Library shows the information from the newspaper the Columbus Enquirer Sun of Friday Morning, November 7, 1919 page one the story of the scheduled hanging that day of a man named Bartow Nix for the killing of two men. So evidently, the last stone - that of a "Bo" Nix is the man Bartow.)

Hello Robert Another Amazing Find. So sad as we have discussed before how these cemeteries are forgotten about and this one in particular is now somewhat of a junk yard. Looks like years of negligence and no regard for the graves.

Love the videos! By you uncovering and reading these, we are all remembering them together. The stones are messages to everyone in the future. I was here.
Bless you for showing these folks the respect they deserve. The city or municipality could enclose with an iron fence(low maintenance) and pick up the garbage occasionally! If it is private land the city or municipal government could enforce as law for proper care. It’s the right thing to do. I hope your video brings this to the attention of the authorities.
Very informational. This shows you how life still goes on even after you’re gone. With all the building going on here in Florida seeing videos like this make you wonder how many graves have been built over due to construction 🚧.

Thank you Robert for recognizing the forgotten! I finally made a stop at my parents grave, are there any mausoleum. However my brother and sister and grandparents have flat stones and I spent 20 minutes clearing away the grass again this year... Some perpetual care. Not, who's to do when I'm gone.
such a shame the refuse people just disgard everywhere is nothing sacred anylonger ?
No and its reflected in the type of society and country we have become. That's not a political statement but its reality of how people behave, what they respect, how we treat one another and how materialism has become our new God.
@Trey Stephens many of us don't throw the past away, we do what we can
@@NicoleWilliams-pk9jr I totally agree 👍
This area has obviously been unkempt & overgrown for quite some time; much the garbage can probably be attributed to people not even realizing that a graveyard is located there🤔
This is so friggin sad to see. Look at all that trash. God bless y’all for cleaning it up and documenting the graves.
That is just disgusting that graves that old in the middle of tTown can be so forgotten!!
This is heartbreaking, thank-you for cleaning off some of the graves. You and Cody are angels on earth, you are respectful and caring for those who have passed.
God bless you Robert.
Thanks for all you've done in finding all these lost graves and helping folks searching their ancestry get one step closer with your recorded finds.
Thank YOU!
Thank God there are people like you who care about the graves of those who have passed before us!! God Bless you.
Those businesses should be held accountable for their trash blowing all over the place! That’s just so disrespectful!
It has certainly changed.

According to city building codes, there are NO building setback requirements for property surrounding cemeteries. In other words, the person owning adjoining property can plunk down a building right along the property line. (Believe me, I checked!).
They would be appealed for the lack of respect and piety for the deceased.😔
@@jeffreynix1369 How about a politician who dug up and dumped native american bodies from their burial site to build a golf course, that's the politicians and company here in butler county pa from 1960s- 2018.😓
Miriam Nix had 9 living children when she passed. I was nice to remember her and the others resting there
I love what you and your friends are doing to bring to life the forgotten past. I’ve always been so interested in our past of the South. I’m from upper NC. What our ancestors went through many years ago is so interesting to me. Again thank you for doing this amazing work.
Thank you , fascinating stuff ! Love your style of presentation, lack of background music and measured informative narration .The respect that you show the sites visited is admirable -I think Nettie Ellis will be smiling down on you . Keep up the good work.
I'm so glad you documented what you could. Such a shame this place has been left to be forgotten (clearly in the middle
of civilization). Thank you for what you do and for taking us along. Cody is becoming quite the scout!! Great find guys.
Stay safe, stay well. God Bless you and your family!
Loving the hand-broom and your helper. It makes things so much quicker and easer to read!
Thank you, SIdestep Adventures, for bringing this cemetery situation once again to the public.
My ancestors are buried in this cemetery; I have called attention to it a few times. It has been written about in the local paper and highlighted on the news. It was cleared off 10 years ago by a group of volunteers and masons. I am, unfortunately, disabled and unable to do upkeep on this cemetery. I once investigated having a fence put up around it, they estimated the cost to be about $4000 to do so.
NIX FAMILY CEMETERY
Muscogee County, Georgia

[Contributor - June Hanna, Columbus,Ga.
Records copied Sept. 10, 1977 from a family cemetery located behind the house at 4805 Buena Vista Road, Columbus, Ga. 31907. This is the home of Mrs, Newt Williams. She is 84 years old and told me about this cemetery. There are about 17 graves in this cemetery and it is neatly kept up by Mrs, Williams. These are not any of her people, however. She stated that a lady named Woods used to come about twice a year land decorate the graves. -She was from Phenix City, Ala. She had made the wish that she be buried in this cemetery but she went up to LaGrange, Ga4 to visit a relative and died up there and was never buried here.
l. Large concrete and brick tomb, built up and with a crumbling and broken top. The west end is the front and has a square of 'marble inset as follows:
In Memory of / A. Odom / Born / May 16th, 1784, / Died ./ April 28th 1860.
On top of the above tomb are several pieces of thin concrete headstones with parts of crude inscriptions as follows:
a. Cora C. Wood
Feb. 26
b. John W. / Wood / Feb.. 8, / 1877 / Mar. 30 / 1943
(Mrs. Williams stated the above Cora and John W. Wood were the mother and father, and lived in Phenix City.)
c. C. L. / Loyd / Born / (rest missing - but this goes on grave No.2 at bottom of page)
Under a tall Elm tree were small wooden stobs marking two graves otherwise un¬marked but Mrs. Williams said these were the mother and father's graves to which the broken stones belonged.
To the right of the above: Marble headstone-
Samantha J. / Wood / 1866 - 1910 / Rest, Mother rest, in / quiet sleep, While / friends in sorrow / o'er the weep. Footstone: S.J.W.
Under a tall pine and oak tree, three flat concrete slabs: (placed relatively recently):

3. Infant son of / Mary 0. & W. J. / Wood / Mar. 16, 1907 / Oct 31, 1907 /
Our Little Brother
East of the above, old markers of which the above appear to be some replacements. These were small concrete markers on concrete basest moveable. All made alike and three had identification and three did not and the three without identification may have been used as footmarkers for the others.
1. Linnia / Sax.ton / Born / Sept0 31, 1862 / Died / July 7 / 1907
2. C. L. Loyd / Born / Sept. ls 1906 / Died / Sept / 22 1908. (broken in two)

End of Cemetery
Note: Mrs. Williams stated that one of these last three graves was of a man, a bootlegger, who killed a man and he was the last man hung in Muscogee County.
She didn't know however, just which was the grave of this man, only that his was one of these last three graves.)
Jeffrey Nix Wow, what a great compilation of information on this poor little old cemetery. Glad to see the folks buried there are not totally forgotten and that there is some history on them. God bless, Mr. Nix.
As a person who loves the Lord with all my heart, I feel there is no person who is alive or ever lived who is unimportant to our Lord. Bless this familly. Where veterans are buried are especially important to our national history. And all the rest are marked and known by the God who knows how many hairs are in our head.
I am related to Evett Dumas Nix of “Oklahombres” fame, I wonder if these are some of his family members? Simpson Socrates Nix and Rebecca Holand Nix are his parents.
Thank you for sharing all of this interesting information! It's always sad to see the children's graves. So many died as babies or toddlers.
Wow amazing history! Feel so sad ppl let the grave go 💔
That's absolutely crazy. Hopefully now that you've brought it out in the open, someone will do something to clean it up.
As always now these people are no longer forgotten because you have said their name. God Bless and Thank you💕💕🙏🙏🙏
It is so sad to see all of the trash in the cemetery. Thank you for taking the time to document the graves.
Please keep us informed as to what the city plans to do with this cemetery. This is a disgrace to their memory that it has been allowed to become so overgrown and forgotten. Thanks for all you do!!
I love when you set stones right. Showd great respect. 👏👏👏
I really enjoy your videos!!
Thanks for doing this! I'm researching my family tree and learned all about Acadiens and the Gran Deportation when many hundreds of people were just moved and never seen again. Many were sent to the thirteen colonies, and although Georgia is not where many ended up, I feel your plight. I try to find graves of all and document them. Please try to send pics if you can to find a grave and documentation so future generations can understand. Thanks for all that you do!
Love your heart and your sweet son.
Of all the channels on here that do the same type of videos... @sidestepadventures is by far the best! Robert shows such reverence to each grave and has such a soothing voice! I've watched UA-cam for years, it's this channel that I FINALLY logged in so I could subscribe AND after a couple videos I became a Patreon. Keep doing what you guys do! Please.
it truly is an honorable thing you guys do by finding these old sites and acknowledging them
Thank you for all you do! That is so sad to see graves in that condition. I hope the city will protect it not that it is known about.
Such a lonely and unlikely place for a cemetery. Thank you for putting Nellie’s gravestone upright again.
It’s sick these cemetery’s are not taken care of the are people that were loved and had family’s if it was cleaned up before you know they know it’s there such disrespect is sickening
Another gravesite behind the shopping buildings next to the old walmart on Buena vista rd. I also sent you an email of a Confederate camp supposedly with graves off veterans pkwy.
Love your channel by the way
That would be an awesome find!
This is so Heartbreaking, these people deserve better than this, maybe someone will see this and step up in the town, one can only hope, great video as always Robert, thank for remembering them.
That's a real shame. I wonder how many people are so close to those graves and don't know or even care that they are there. Another great video. Thanks Robert and Cody
I bet the people buried there would be appalled at how things around them have changed.
Hello Robert Another Amazing Find. So sad as we have discussed before how these cemeteries are forgotten about and this one in particular is now somewhat of a junk yard. Looks like years of negligence and no regard for the graves.
Bravo.....excellent!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing please be safe out there and God bless you and your family and friends
Thank you for taking a brush! And thank you for all you do! You are an angel!
Cody, what a remarkable young man you are. You’re following in the footsteps of a hero to an awful lot of folks. I’m sure he’s very proud and you should be proud of you 😊 too.
Great episode. Thanks for your effort
Thank you so much for resetting her stone. Your so kind. This is the saddest cemetery yet. All the trash. My granny was born in 1908.
How the land has changed around the Grave Yard but not in a good way thank you for sharing love your videos
Thank you for all you do and your respect
I found this all very sad a dumpster there and all that rubbish all over the place what has the world came to when that cemetery is left like that you see on lots of headstones gone but not forgotten wow Robert and Cody thanks for being so respectful and clearing all the dirt ect of these stones Thanks for the video Take care of yourselves
Love the videos! By you uncovering and reading these, we are all remembering them together. The stones are messages to everyone in the future. I was here.
Thank you for showing this final resting place. I love old cemeteries they tell so much about those who went before us. So sad to see it so overgrown.
Thank you for sharing , im like you , i find it interesting , yet sad that these graveyards can just be forgotten . ty for doing what you do .
Safety first , love watching you and the respect you have. Grave walks is one of things I enjoy doing.
Love to see the respect you show to these gravesites.
Thank you Robert.another amazing video.
So very sorry that these were ‘forgotten’! 1900’s!!
Thank you for remembering them!
The small cemetery was forgotten while the city moved on and progressed around it. Time sucks!
A general thank you for your videos. I live in San Diego, and enjoy the history from other areas of our country.
Not sure why but I'm kind of just left with no words on this one. Just seems so out of place I guess. Thank you for sharing and God be with you and crew always.
So sad that these people were thrown away. I know they weren’t. Thank you for taking us there. I hope someone will clean it up soon.
Thank you so much for all you do
So sad. Thank you for documenting these sites. Breaks my heart ❤
2:12 Miriam Nix was born on the same day as me, May 22, but she was born 141 years before me. She lived to a good age of 75, too. I hope she had a good life. Seems she was surrounded by family. Thank you for documenting graves such as these that it seems time has forgotten...or at least city officials have.
Hi guys, that is so incredibly sad to see old cans and other rubbish just strewn all over and on the graves, why are people just so disrespectful of the dead. Thank you for both being so kind and caring in clearing the ones you found so they could be documented. Thank you for sharing. xx
There's a grave from 1784. That is amazing. I love your videos. Thank you for sharing and documenting
That is our history we should show respect and protect these grounds, these guys, thank you for what you are doing for our history!
This are people ,whole families
Very interesting. I enjoyed this. Thanks.
Robert, you and Cody have LOTS of good Karma built up in the universe.
Heartbroken and speechless over this. God bless you Robert and Cody
What a pity someone doesn’t take responsibility to the upkeep of cemetery. I really loved that, thanks so much for taking me along. Do take care
That is uncalled for, looks like street people have been using as a place to relieve them selfs. If you could find a Boy Scout Troop that is in need of a way to earn some pins, that might be available to come in and help with the city in getting this cleaned, brush, trash, grass, needs removed. So sorry nobody is aware of this or doesn’t care.😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I checked into getting the Boy Scouts to assist--but was informed due to liability issues (injury and what not),. it would not be possible.
@@jeffreynix1369 volunteers can do it once or twice a year. Just pack a picknic lunch and tools and commune with God and departed souls. It is therapeutic
You guys are awesome. I wish I could join you. I love this stuff.
So sad to see the state that cemetery is in. Thank you for taking the time to document & clean what you could!!
Bless your hearts for showing this and fixing the headstone. ❤️
God Bless you and Cody
That's so sad that it has been forgotten.Just remember they helped us .Thank u guys hope you get them uncovered.USA
This is so very sad, the Government needs to see this call Fox’s news this needs media attention. Thank you for filming these people. They helped creat parts of the USA. Thank you for sharing your beautiful video
Another great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow!! Appreciate the care you give to the forgotten.
Thanks for sharing
Y’all are so heart felt. History is awesome.
LOVE WHAT YOU FOR THE GRAVES GOD BLESS YOU GUYS
Someone is responsible for this mess! Mayors/commissioners? Whose paying property taxes on this land? Another great video! Thanks guys.
Heartbreaking condition of this cemetery 💔. Thanks to you and Cody for your respect to these forgotten souls
So very sad, thank you for letting these souls know someone cares. It would be nice to see it all cleaned up.
Robert, after watching a lot of your videos, I'm just so sad people's graves are not
been taking care of. You have such a nice soothing voice for these types of videos.
It's a shame someone would put a dumpster right next to some graves. No respect
anymore for anything and especially for the death.
Always so wild to me finding Graves of people that were born in the 1700's! Love the videos!
Very fascinating however very sad that progress has all but erased these people...thanks for remembering them...and sharing it with us.
When you can plainly see the Graves and then you throw trash at them that's disgusting so disrespectful
G,Day Robert and clan, Must have been a Church there in the early days, you will always have to look out for yourself and others not all people are nice, cheers.
