Jeremy Smith and Jeff Simpson embarked on a fall wilderness fishing adventure to the remote waters of Lower Manitou Lake in Sunset Country, Ontario. They stayed at the Manitou Weather Station Lodge, which provides a perfect base with tremendous fishing opportunities nearby. Their target species was the lake’s abundant lake trout.
In mid-September, lake trout are staging in deeper waters near shallow rocky reefs where they will eventually spawn. This concentration of fish just before the fall spawn makes it an excellent time for catching lake trout. Jeff and Jeremy's timing and destination were spot on, and they soon found themselves in lake trout nirvana.
