This video is from early 2016 and I no longer agree with many of the points I made here, although I did at the time. I'm leaving it up, but I'm disabling future comments. Thanks for watching.
What did we get from Blink over the past few years? Zero, that's right. Zero. Let's face it. Tom is 'SO OVER' Blink-182. It was fun while it lasted, a lot of fun, actually. I'm a huge Blink-182 fan, believe it or not. The fact of the matter is, Blink-182 is done (with Tom as a member) and Tom has moved on. You know what gets me? In this world of 'be proud of who you are, follow your dreams', everyone SHITS on Tom for doing exactly THAT, following what, and who, he wants to be! Take a look in the mirror haters, Tom is doing what the world apparently preaches to us all. 'Be proud of who you are, and do what you want.'
+DaReal TD Damn, that's a lot of truth coming out of this comment, i love it! its a shame that this guy and most of so-called "FANS" didn't or will never understand that.
I understand where you're coming from but you should know Tom was dealing with painkiller addiction during the first initial breakup. He also missed his childs first steps and her first words whilst on tour with blink and he broke under the pressure of not being there for those important moments in a fathers life.
Feelings about Tom aside, blink-182 is NOT blink-182 without him. I think Mark and Travis are kind of fooling themselves by thinking anyone can replace him, and still have the band "continue its legacy". I love all of them, but it's just not going to work anymore. Blink died with Neighborhoods. And I would rather know Mark, Tom, and Travis were still friends but didn't make any more music, than having some one replace any one of them and them continue on. Just my feelings on it.
Thing is the fans think musicians belong to them. If Mark and travis keep on playing its because they want to. They have the right to do whatever they want. I don't think they do it for the money anymore, they just enjoy having the band. I don't like the last albums... Last good songs to me were heart are gone and even if she falls from neighbourhoods. And the last good album was the self titled one.
+AVA4444 No, Tom is a douche now. You must've only been following him since 2005 if you think he's such a nice guy but he was never this arrogant, self interested and money hungry. I think the addiction to painkillers actually fried his brain.
This guy doesn't know shit about what goes on behind the scenes of everyone's lives or music biz. Tom obviously had a right to quit with his manager, it obviously wasn't nice, but he probably felt anxiety and depression from all the paranoia of BCR at the time. Remember how he went on that "spiritual journey" shit after they split? There were probably problems with the band after they reunited as well. He did sing on recordings alright, live is always gonna be different without professional training. Don't base your evidence over censored press release information. Get to hear the story from the people themselves. And even then you don't know the truth.
Can you do a problems I have with 5sos? I dont really like them that much, but I think it'd be cool to see a "Problems I Have With ____" on that specific band.
Call me delusional or whatever, but Tom will always be one of my fav musicians. I think he's really talented and he has some great projects. Thanks for your video tho, was good to see what others think of him, cheers !
When will people realize Tom was so integral to the soul of the blink they loved? You easily hear his absence in blink and the presence of old blink awesomeness in AvA. Like the person or not, he made the music you love special.
Just to add, there's a video of Mark (I think it's a promo for some company) they do a day in the life on tour and it shows mark checking out the stage, he plugs in and sound checks by himself and sings a little. Then has him in a dressing room by himself doing vocal warm ups (Travis is nowhere to be seen but he's notorious for his warm-ups. Constantly playing and practicing) in a related video on the side, it's tom before the show and he has a ton of people in his dressing room, he's drunk, and they're having a party. His manager calls him outside and Mark and Travis are already there waiting. There's nothing wrong with this but it just shows the mentality of the two. Mark sees blink as a job and wants to perform the best he can I feel like Tom sees it as a party. Not really as something he has to, or perform well doing. I just feel like blink's been so successful for so long that tom takes advantage of it now.
In 2005 or 2004, Tom didn't want to talk to them because they always started arguing. Tom said after a practice for blink, they just couldn't start arguing and he didn't want to start another argument by telling it to them. He called his manager that night and told him he was done.
Can a man not be passionate about other things? I love that Tom is committed and doing other things, it shows he still has fun. Just because he isn't committed to Blink doesn't give you the right to ridicule him, get a grip.
+Beyond ARTV hey jon is it cool if i send you a song link? working on a demo and i need some expert critical advice on a track before i release anything else for real, if you've got some spare time bro
Love the channel man! And, well, you pretty much "Hit the nail on the Head"... And I think I have a pretty decent insight as to the ongoing and inner workings of the rise and fall, then rise and fall again of Blink... (Not trying to too my own horn, or say I know SOOOO much about what goes on with Blink... But I did use to live with the Head of I.T. for Macbeth, as well as was and am really good friends with some guys who used to work for Blink in the early 2000 - 2008 when they were still together/1st break up, and doing the Atticus clothing line (Which was sold shortly after the 1st break up), in conjunction with Macbeth...) But, Like I said, you pretty much summed up to a "Tee" as to what went down, as well as what has continued to happen as Tom continues to put Blink in his hind-sight and move forward with AVA... It will be interesting to see how the fans take to this new record being dropped in less than a month, without Tom... From what I've heard of the tracks released, it sounds a lot like the +44 stuff, but you can't really, or should not pre-judge a record, until you've heard the whole thing in it's entirety... Also, I think most of the fans are just stoked to have Blink back in some capacity or another...
Bottom line is when Travis starts talking about how much of a baby and bitch Tom has been, and how selfish he's become, you know it's true. Dude hasn't a dishonest bone in his body, he just wants to jam, so for Travis to have repeatedly said Tom is the problem... you know it's got to be true.
+Pink Floyd Travis hard a much larger input into blink songs than you may think. Both Tom and Mark have admitted they would not be where they are today if it weren't for Travis (they would've gotten bigger but maybe only to the likes of Pennywise or Bad Religion), and Travis admitted he wouldn't be where he is today if it weren't for Tom and Mark.
***** I agree that the sole songwriters were Mark and Tom and they largely wrote 90% of the hits. But they have both admitted, and more than once, that Travis looked at their songs and the structure of them differently to how they did. Travis often had input on bridges and pre-chorus on songs - for instance, the piano in the bridge in I Miss You was Travis' idea and he recorded it for the actual album. I'm pretty sure he played the piano in I'm Lost Without You, as well).
***** Have a look at the liner sleeve on their records, Travis is credited with writing each and every song from Take Off Your Pants & Jacket onwards. He is even credited as a songwriter on Box Car Racer's record as well as the +44 record.
dylanmorgan17 Yep. Travis' input into the songwriting is far more than people may believe, just because he doesn't boast about it. According to Mark and Skinhead Rob, Travis has a decent singing voice too, but not for punk rock.
I've met Blink when they got back off hiatus a few years ago & it was clear they weren't feeling it anymore. There was such an awkward feeling of tension between them. They just got back together for the money I think & you're right, Tom's vocals were absolutely awful. It's disappointing because Blink are actually a great band but it's just all gone to shit now. Tom tries to do far too much & he just seems to not have a clue what he wants anymore.
agreed, I saw them for the first time 2 years ago, it was one of their last shows before kicking Tom out. I left feeling hyped as I'd just seen my favourite band live for the first time, then it dawned on me that they sounded terrible, Mark and Travis sounded fine but Tom sounded like a drunk slurring dude trying to cover a blink song. It frustrates me with the recent album leak that people are complaining about the lack of Tom without realising that Tom is not the same artist he was before the first break up, California is one of the best blink albums we've had in recent years.
Tom created Box Car Racer to experiment new sounds and Mark saw it as like getting betrayed something like that, and that's when argues hit up, he ended box car racer, and Blink was doing very good at touring becoming more famous, and none of the members wanted to stop touring but Tom wanted to be there for his daughter and he request to take some time off, but mark and travis didn't want to, he was also signing to a label, as a solo artist, which travis and mark saw it was like turning the back on blink but he actually wanted to write music to make blink better but the argues kept hitting up and he got tired of it, besides the reason he took so long to record with blink for their new album was because he was pretty busy with various projects he's working on and im really stoked to see his new ideas, but i respect your opinion and im stoked to hear California
+Moo Kz What never sat right with me when they broke up was Tom saying he wanted to take a break to be spend time with his family. Almost right after Blink split up Tom made AvA and went touring with them.
+ba11ard his first concert with AVA was in early 2006, a year later of blink's split, he formed AVA months later of blink's breakup so yes, he did spent time with his family, even in his interview about blink's separation he was at his hometown
Can i just add that the demos and odds and ends album that tom released was actually demos and odds and ends intended for the new blink album before the split. People are also saying that Tom quit, but he quit because he knew he was gunna get kicked out at some point. Also the reason Tom was losing it in the 2 years before the bands '05 hiatus was due to the fact that the band had been touring for two months and Tom only got to see his wife a hand full of times in that period, he also missed the birthday and first birthday of his son because he was on tour. I'm not saying i prefer Tom over Matt or visa versa, i loved tom and i love the stuff he does now, i love Matt and we finally have blink back, but you should probably do a little more research into his life and the way he sees things before you do a video on why you don't like him.
Tom doesn't owe anyone, least of all you, more music from blink. The quarrels with the band have nothing to do with us. There are so many layers to the breakup, jealousy, addiction, Creative limits, and different paths after so many years with the same people. You're one of those guys who wants tom to be 23 forever and sing about dicks and highschool. He can never please you.
In all respect, when you're in a small band for a long time, and you take a break you might not be the same when you come back. Tom said when he became what I'd like to call an alien hunter he felt like it was a new experience, and a fresh start. When you're playing music for so long you can forget what that feels like. I do agree with a lot of the points you make in this video though.
After waiting for 3 years for Blink to record it is so exciting and refreshing to see all these studio updates from them. They finally seem like a real band again
+BrandNew182 Whats ironic is Tom Delonge has put out TONS and TONS of music in these years. It wasnt Toms fault they werent putting out music. That man makes hits, its what he does. In blink or not.
Barbie Velazquez It's because of all his other music/books and stuff that prevented blink from recording. He used to put out hits, but that time is a decade gone.
Problems I have with Beyond ARTV. You lack full detail of issues. Back in 2004 when the first break up happened, they tried making him go BACK out on tour after a year long tour. He had a daughter that was just born before he went out and didn't even get the see her and his family the entire time. Mark and Travis were selfish, they didn't care about how he felt so the only way he could see his family was to leave the band. If you watched the "Start the machines" documentary you'd understand. Tom Delonge is drunk 99.9% of the time on stage, which is why he doesn't really sound like he's trying, because he's not. I mean, have you ever been drunk before? It's not easy to do that while intoxicated. On top of all that, he's pushing 40 man. Let him do what he wants and quit being a bitch about what he's doing with his life. AvA is actually really fucking good, and very inspiring and has helped a lot of people including myself through dark times. Sorry not everyone solely cares about blink.
He wasn't hating on A&A, he was saying that Tom tries to balance and promises too many things at one time to handle. Another point that ARTV made was that Tom doesn't care anymore. Like you said, most of the time he's on stage, he's shit-faced drunk, if he really cared about what he was doing, would he be getting drunk before he goes to perform?
+Necce have you ever been on stage before? Do you know how mind numbingly nervous it is to play in front of 30,000+ people? I've played in front of 100 and it was the most nervous I've been in my life. Alcohol seems to prevent that from being an issue. It's not that he doesn't care.
Salty, mate? I'm not a huge fan of all of Tom's various projects but he's doing what he wants so I don't think he cares what anyone thinks. Mark and Travis have moved on with Skiba, so I fail to see what the issue is. Blink fans get new Blink music, and fans of Tom get more of his stuff. Sounds like a win all around. I think Tom knows that none of his other stuff won't be as big as Blink because it doesn't have as much mainstream appeal, but the dude is still making a good living so all the emotional blackmailing about betraying Blink or something is just petty and childish.
StarCrossedPimp I get what you're saying, BUT, what a lot of unhappy fans are trying to get at is that they want the collaboration between Mark, Travis and Tom, not some other lineup
StarCrossedPimp The only reason why Mark and Travis are doing their thing with Matt under the name "blink-182" is because it gets the money, but there's no essence of blink there
Mike Hawk Yeah for sure. And I can't really blame them. Blink's legacy will always be more marketable than that of +44 or even the individual names of these three even though they are all fairly well known in the scene at least. I just really love what Tom brought to the table and that their was always a special energy with him in the mix.
While I do agree with you on many points in this video, I highly recommend that any Blink 182 fan or fan of Tom Delonge himself should go watch the Pursuit of Tone Documentary on him. It really puts everything into perspective on Tom's reasons for leaving and what he wants to with his life now. It's really awesome at explaining some early Blink 182 also.
Fucking amen brother I started listening to become passionate about music around the time they reunited, in fact neighborhood was the first album I ever bought on release, so it's extra sad to see the band going through all this shit again just because Tom is being a diva again. It's sad how growing up made him become somehow more immature than before, at least he used to be humble.
As much as i hate to admit this, you are completely right. Tom was my Idol growing up with Dude ranch, enema of the state, toypaj etc. His style and passion knew no bounds at that point. Even in 2004 when the self titled album came out, he still seem to be enjoying it. Then they suddenly split, and I was devastated. He burned that bridge leaving blink like that. I wanted nothing more for them to reform, but not like the way they did for neighbourhoods. it's obvious he didnt care. looking back on videos, mark is constantly giving him scowls across the stage. I still loves Tom's style of music, but he's lost alot of my respect as a person. I'm glad he finally let blink move on though.
I agree with everything except for the end where you say "don't come back, we don't want you" If Tom can ever convince Mark and Travis to welcome him back, I think that would be great. It would run the risk of starting the whole cycle over again but they don't have as much to lose at this point
Dude, great video! I totally agree with you. Its sad and also growing more annoying that the drama (fans arguing with each other) is still happening. Im just excited to hear their new upcoming music and hopefully they tour. Other than that everyone should just chill lol.
I don't mind tom leaving because honestly I liked the songs where mark was singing anyway. The problem is that the reason I like blink so much is that tom's voice is the polar opposite to marks and when they sing together it sounds amazing (like I miss you and feelin it etc) and the dude they replaced tom with sounds EXACTLY LIKE MARK! Like wtf!!!
I grew up on this band, I remember when they broke up the first time and was so excited when they got back together and came out with Neighborhoods. (which personally, I liked - even though it got a lot of hate) It's honestly kind of heartbreaking to see him act this way because he was kind of the guy that I looked up to (probably because he has talked such a big game and talked like he was the one who wanted to be there for the fans and change the face of music and all of that) so for me it kind of sucked that much more haha. Great video though, you nailed it right on the head.
Travis Barker doesn't write songs. No hate for drummers but even in the early days it seemed like it was rare for him to actually be there and care about the rest of the song creating process. In one of the docs he mentioned sticking around through the rest of the process and that made it seem to me like he usually didn't. I remember feeling like he'd only show up to record his drum parts for a few days then bounce. It was all Tom and Mark writing everything and doing the rest. So yeah, it probably is easier for him to juggle stuff. He doesn't come up with the lyrics or the melodies or anything. Secondly, Blink represents Tom's youth. His angst, jokes about dicks and peoples' mothers, and other things that OF COURSE he's grown out of. He understands that it made him, but you can't blame the guy for wanting to work on projects a little bit more spiritual and enlightened than he was back then. He's not a teen anymore. He's played those songs so many times it's hard to blame him for just going through the motions. He also runs A BUNCH of companies. He's an entrepreneur. He has a lot going on so when Mark and Travis expected an album in 6 months written in a contract like of course there are going to be issues. Why rush an album in 6 months anyway. I think he also gets blasted drunk before blink concerts maybe due to nerves. I'm not entirely certain but imagine having that huge legacy to maintain and MORE PEOPLE who love you now that you're back together than when you even split up in the first place. Gotta be nerve wracking.
True. I think Travis has to much pride for being in blink. Tom just wants to express himself and make a community of people that think the same way as he does
I agree with almost all you said.Would anyone want to be 40 and doing the same thing since 18, especially something artistic. It would be like painting the same picture over and over. I have been a fan and following Blink since early 1997 and am almost 30 myself, I feel where he is coming from. Also, all hose projects are collaboration so, yes it could be possible. He is doing something with his core interest, for which I am happy for him. It's too bad blink tried to replacing instead of moving to new ground like Alice in Chains when Layne died. Maybe if they did that they'd still be original. I don't know him personally, so I can't judge and neither should anyone else. Thumbs down on this childish video. Am I at least telling the truth and somewhere near correct?
Ok, my bad, but so what? That doesn't mean he stuck around for the whole process or helped them write their parts. Without lyrics, melodies and guitar, songs like All the Small Things and Adam's Song wouldn't be much of anything. I'm just implying that from what I've seen of behind the scenes content it doesn't seem like he usually sticks around. He has too much other shit going on. So yeah, it's easier for him to juggle stuff when you can just drop in and record your part, then leave and go do something else. He didn't meld it all together and create the album that we listen to. Tom bore more of the burden in that case than Travis, so Travis can't really say much about Tom.
I feel you, Tom was my hero when I was a teenager but I can't even relate to him anymore :/. I just hope he will get over this shit someday, realize how stupid he looks, and then apologize to Mark. Seriously, their friendship was so beautiful and I really hope they can be friends again and have fun together someday.
I like this. I feel about 90% the same you do about it. He is out of his mind, and I just do not understand how a human being could GIVE UP being a member of BLINK 182. It really depresses me.
strongly suggest you search up on youtube "ernie ball pursuit of tone tom delonge" gives a lot of understanding to what hes doing these days and why , also explains his whole life well and why he made certain choices you may disagree with , very interesting to say the least.
I agree, I loved tom before Neighborhoods, and really I think he started not caring in the untitled album. He just showed up, played, and left. He used to be fun. I will be happy when he goes back to the band, hopefully he will be back to his original, and funny self again.
ever think tom might be tired of playing the same songs every show...all the small things...first date...rock show....he is a progress guy that wanted more diverse sounds.i always thought tom started sounding horrible because he lost interest in the music..but even with his new stuff with ava he sounded terrible...but still sounds normal on studio releases..bottom line blink with never be the same without tom..and skiba sounds almost as bad as tom does live...
Tom kinda got real full of himself during the angels and airwaves days. Although he left blink in an abrupt way, still have to respect him for wanting to explore himself as a musician. He ultimately did what he had to do for himself as an artist. I think he's come down to earth quite a bit the last couple years, and hopefully id like to see him rejoin the band. He does, after all, along with travis and mark, still own the band.
Tom is an awesome guy, he is more of an artist than just blink, I love blink but angels and airwaves brought a level of music that Tom could not not write in blink, I will always be a blink fan but they are not blink without Tom. I think all things different things that Tom is doing is awesome, but I think he also needs to be back in blink.
Yep you pretty much killed it. I usually disagree with blink opinions but this was SPOT on. And thank you for addressing how Mark and Trav are super public with everything. That hurts us too. Well done!
Thank you! I was done with Tom when he quit on the band the 2nd time and nothing on earth can make me change my mind. Great facts added too. Subscribed :)
Actually dude, all of his projects (or most of them aka. Angels and Airwaves) so yeah, and dude people aren't perfect, and he has a passion that he is fulfilling in his life because music isn't the only thing he HAS to focus on
***** i'm a fan of the band and have been for a long time, i can appreciate that Tom is doing his own thing but he didn't have to be so crappy to his friends. i mean back when the came to Australia for soundwave Travis couldn't make it because he is scared of flying, he tried his best and had a back up drummer ready if he just couldn't do it. after this Tom flipped his shit at Travis and blamed him for it. he even tried to kick him out of the band. and the there are a lot more shitty things where that comes from that happened towards the end
I went to see blink this past July it was an ok show, it was nothing like when shit fuck cock sucker mutha fucker shit and twat tom I'm in a fucking band played with em. over all blink not the same now that Tom's gone. I'll support blink still, but I'm more of an AVA fan.
Israel Moreno i feel like it's not actually a now that Tom's gone thing, i think it's just because they matured and got over it, just left it behind in the early 2000's. you could see that they were going through a change with the self titled album and now they're where they are now and mark has stated he loves the new album and that it's probably the best he's done. people change and so do bands it's bound to happen when they've been around for so long. i mean have you seen Mark's twitter? he's a memeing dad now.
Tom is on record saying this about 8 hours ago... "Looking back, all I can say is I feel very good about everything that I did. I feel very good about my decisions. I feel very good about where I'm at in my life, and I did everything respectfully and took the high road." - All I can say to that is wow, Tom, tom tom, what planet do you live on. I'm 28, loved blink growing up, learned to play guitar because of dammit, and don't even recognize the man tom has turned into. Is he serious when he say's this stuff. He has let his fans in blink down for YEARS.
he was very disrespectful showing up to shows drunk singing nonsense playing sloppy to fans who payed their hard earned money and waited months for this one night. There is no excuse and people defend him saying that's Tom being Tom. blink have never sounded tighter than they are now with a guitarist who actually cares.
Actually the deal Tom had to sign to record with Blink wanted him to quit his other stuff to record with them, y defend Tom in that part, it is true that he hides behind other people. And with his voice, he had cancer and had his back hurted, so the medicines he used for any of both cases (i dont remember wich one) hurted his vocals strings, that's why his voice is so off nowadays
Man, this is exactly how I feel too. I still like Tom and I like some of his stuff, but he definitely has too much on his plate. I was kind of relieved when he cut ties with the band so Mark and Travis could move forward, but whenever myself or someone else talks about it online, everyone comments that blink will be garbage without Tom, or that Tom is perfect and he should come back to blink. I've even been hearing people say that Travis and Mark don't deserve to use the name blink-182, that they should go back to being +44 and that the only reason they're using blink is to monetize on the name. Can't we all just shut up and listen to the music? Haha. Thanks for the video. :)
i totally agree... Tom Delonge is a HUGE part of Blink, but why does the band have to wait on him? I wasn't too stoked about Matt joining Mark and Tom, but the closer their next album gets, i become extremely excited. I love Angels & Airwaves, but not as much as i love Blink. And the Neighborhoods album is just as good as their other records (in my opinion) but it actually could have been a tad bit better if Tom put in extra effort. What i don't get is why Tom says he loves Blink but never commits to them until HE'S ready...
Hard to admit, but I couldn't agree more. Tom Delonge is the one who inspired me the most to pick up a guitar back when I was 13 years old. It's so disappointing how he changed and just didn't care about blink anymore, but I'm really excited to hear the brand new blink-182 with Matt Skiba, who's way more talented than Tom these days.
It's pretty upsetting seeing such a prominent part of Blink, stop caring about the band enough to actually keep making music with them. Great video. You should do more of these. I thought your "Problems with Panic!" video was pretty on point. It's always interesting to hear your opinion John. Keep it up!
you know whats so funny, given the fact this video is 3-4 years old, mark is wearing a simple creatures shirt during tour, nobody said anything about that.
People grow up and want to achieve new goals and ideas. Blink 182 without Tom or without Mark or without Travis isn't blink 182 in my opinion. But just wanna point out that I think Tom possesed a greater writing talent than Mark simply cause Plus 44 was a major fail and AVA & Box Car Racer was a huge success in my opinion
its totally the opposite for me.i really love +44 melancholic music and each of their songs is full of sensations and emotions, they made 1 album and i love each song of it,ava songs on the other hands make 2/3 good songs in each album but the other one are so empty and repetitive to me,just there because they had to fill the album with something.hey but i listen to both of them,i like them both anyway, but from my point of view,+44 songs are way a better product than ava's songs
It's hard for me, as a huge Tom fan boy, to look past his failings. But you make a lot of great points. I think his biggest flaw is he thinks out loud. He has so much stuff going on, and he is always on social media talking about it, that he just doesn't stop to think about what he says. In recent years I have found he's slacked back a little bit. Either way he is a huge inspiration and I love his music. Regardless of his flaws I still support the dude. But, as you brought up, he should have walked away from blink ages ago. I agree with you on that point. His heart didn't seem to be in it during the last album. Which is sad cause the guys are magical together when firing on all cylinders. Good video dude. Even if we don't fully agree, you pled your case well. :)
Please watch them live at the Reading Festival in 2015!! Such a great show (one of their last I believe) and it's amazing how happy Tom is and how connected he is to the audience and Mark and Travis! Mark and Travis (more so Mark because he's actually the one with the mic) seem a lot more distant and just really don't match Tom's energy. Tom has been an idol of mine for years and I totally understand where you are coming from, but I think you see some of these things differently than they really are, but at the end of the day its okay because it doesn't change who he is or who you are and it's just an opinion :)
Agreed! He needs to just admit that he doesn't care about being in Blink. The new album is gonna rock! Skiba's made great pop punk music so I think he fits very well with Mark and Travis
The thing with Tom is, he wanted something that was completely different to Blink. He wanted to do all these projects and I honestly love that. He wanted to bring a more mature aspect to his music while Blink still wants to make pop punk music thats honestly pretty generic. Tom is really talented, nothing against you but some people in the comments need to realise that TOM DOESNT HAVE TO STAY WITH BLINK
What classifies as an Long-Play album anymore? To The Stars (8 tracks) reached the standard LP mark of 25 minutes. Of Nightmares and Chasing Shadows were both 4 track EPs both clocking at around 17 minutes. And both The Dream Walker Instrumental and Demo albums are just extensions (or bonuses) to the initial release. Let's have a civilized understanding before the Tom-bots blow this comment up.
Tom Delonge has said many times that being okay or mediocre at a bunch of different things is better for him than being good at one thing. Angels and Airwaves just released an EP and a novel. He is just doing whats making him happy, and we as outsiders can never really know what happened with Blink. Mark and Travis broke off into +44 too, and his stage presents to me was pretty amazing and consistent. I like Blink's old live performances with Tom better than anything Blink is putting out today. And with him not being able to advocate for himself, again, we don't know the whole story. In short, Tom is doing right now what makes him happy. He hasn't changed, he's just stopped pretending.
I've known about blink 182 since I was four because my uncle really liked Aliens Exist which was a pretty recent song at the time but never really got into them since last year's summer vacations because my dad also liked Blink but I never knew it, and now they are coming back! I love the new song!
I met him a few years back and the moment I approached him his bandmates (AVA) & crew all went "oh, here come the blink fans" sarcastically. He seemed annoyed during the photo until I asked about AVA, but just the mere mention of blink seemed to piss him off initially.
I remember watching their concerts from 2000, and they played the fuck out of my favorite song, Carousel, and I heard a show from like 2014, and Tom's voice sounded like he wasn't even trying to even play the damn song! I honestly thought he was trying to fuck up, but apparently, he wasn't trying to fuck up, or trying to make it sound good, or trying whatsoever.
Just now watching this somehow. Tom clearly wasn't into Blink anymore. Looking back at the debacle now, its whatever. I wouldn't want someone in my hugely famous band that has one foot in, one foot out. Skiba is killing it in blink right now. At least he focuses solely on blink when the time comes to do so. Also, I understand people don't like California and/or Feldmann's influence, but damn California was successful. It was an impressive comeback that went Gold along with a Gold single. They did exactly what they set out to do after losing a key member. They survived and are still alive doing big things. Good for them.
You took the words right outta my mouth about Tom. I love Tom and I always will, but he just has done some things that I know he's gonna regret later on in the future when his ten thousand projects fail. There are quite A LOT of things you were missing, but you touched on the main things he has done recently and in the past, but eventually his skeletons that are in his closest will come out :D I do want to say, I've got mad respect for you. It takes so much courage and bravely to talk about artists/bands that their fanbase could end up in jail for murdering people who speak harshly about them. I like your honesty and unapologetic opinions :D
This video is from early 2016 and I no longer agree with many of the points I made here, although I did at the time. I'm leaving it up, but I'm disabling future comments. Thanks for watching.
As a blink fan... I will take Tom back any day of the week!
agreed
Bennett Koch any time.. just want to see him take it seriously
But why?
B K Fuck no.
'Be proud of who you are, and do what you want.'
exactly.
sooooooo true. PREACHHH. I wish this guy understood that
+DaReal TD Damn, that's a lot of truth coming out of this comment, i love it! its a shame that this guy and most of so-called "FANS" didn't or will never understand that.
+DaReal TD word
couldn't agree more
I understand where you're coming from but you should know Tom was dealing with painkiller addiction during the first initial breakup. He also missed his childs first steps and her first words whilst on tour with blink and he broke under the pressure of not being there for those important moments in a fathers life.
What I wanted was the blinkumentary .... never released.... so sad.
ikr
if i remember right they did have a vhs/dvd been long ago lol i dont feel like google
Think you're referring to Urethra Chronicles 2 ??
yup thats it, my bad
i waited for years for that shit :(
Tom was abducted by aliens after the boxcar era. Ever since then shit hasn't been right.
lol
The self titled blink-182 album was great though
Blink One Eighty Two and it was good
Blink One Eighty Two lets agree to disagree
of course its good, but it doesnt mean its right.
blink isnt the same without tom. it makes me sad
BUCKSLAYER you mean theyre better now... especially live
blink wasn't the same WITH Tom since the first break-up...
And the last good album was the self titled one.
blink should have stayed together for the kids
+Deja Corbin Even though we kids are now grown ups, I still agree!
+Deja Corbin They did though
Nope tom is grown don't need kids anymore
Maybe you should give them a holiday
thought they a l w a y s would be together
I have a feeling like Travis is everybody's fave Blink member
+אדווה ליג'שאל I like Mark more
Everyone has tom delonge all wrong. do a little research and j guarantee you won't hate him anymore.
+AVA4444 No, Tom is a douche now. You must've only been following him since 2005 if you think he's such a nice guy but he was never this arrogant, self interested and money hungry. I think the addiction to painkillers actually fried his brain.
+אדווה ליג'שאל Nope, Scott
+אדווה ליג'שאל Nope Delonge!
+Fall Out Phan At The Chemical Disco yeah that might be a good one to do. Thanks for the suggestion!
Beyond ARTV No problem, keep up the great content. ;)
+Beyond ARTV problems with blink maybe?
Call me delusional or whatever, but Tom will always be one of my fav musicians. I think he's really talented and he has some great projects. Thanks for your video tho, was good to see what others think of him, cheers !
Your not ... You are insane
Agree with you Fiona 100%.
I'm glad he ripped the bandaid off of Blink and left, but I'm still psyched for anything AVA
He's still my hero
why so much hate,I think that without him blink will never be the same cause he wasn't just a member of blink he was blink...
Mark sees blink as a job and wants to perform the best he can
I feel like Tom sees it as a party.
It’s the fact that he’s passionate about other things, it’s the manner that he left the band in that bugs people
...but he broke up with them THROUGH EMAIL like a pussy. Should've did it in person.
Not that passionate if he makes empty promises
"Problems with My Chemical Romance"
they broke up...
😂
+Beyond ARTV hey jon is it cool if i send you a song link? working on a demo and i need some expert critical advice on a track before i release anything else for real, if you've got some spare time bro
;_; stop reminding me
Problems with MCR
Theyre kind of overrated
***** EH. Wrong wrong wrong
Just discovered your channels dude. Best find ever ! 👌👍
Thank you!!
But I did use to live with the Head of I.T. for Macbeth, as well as was and am really good friends with some guys who used to work for Blink in the early 2000 - 2008 when they were still together/1st break up, and doing the Atticus clothing line (Which was sold shortly after the 1st break up), in conjunction with Macbeth...)
But, Like I said, you pretty much summed up to a "Tee" as to what went down, as well as what has continued to happen as Tom continues to put Blink in his hind-sight and move forward with AVA...
He always has sang out of key. So does mark, but not as much. And his guitar playing has always been sloppy on stage. That's just the blink style
(i dont know blink *that* well, but) Before the reunion he sounded great live, but fuck he's really bad now.
Yet would Travis be doing this shit without Tom? I have no doubt he would be every bit as talented but would he still be as successful?
Tom tries to do far too much & he just seems to not have a clue what he wants anymore.
money money moooooney
He wants to make lots of stuff, so he does.
agreed, I saw them for the first time 2 years ago, it was one of their last shows before kicking Tom out. I left feeling hyped as I'd just seen my favourite band live for the first time, then it dawned on me that they sounded terrible, Mark and Travis sounded fine but Tom sounded like a drunk slurring dude trying to cover a blink song. It frustrates me with the recent album leak that people are complaining about the lack of Tom without realising that Tom is not the same artist he was before the first break up, California is one of the best blink albums we've had in recent years.
tom quit. he wasnt kicked out
Vagrant Productions huh? He says, to this day, that he is still in the band
You forgot the part where he became a drug addict
and the part where Tom had his manager text the band to break up
he said he was tired of arguing
Tom will always have my unconditional love
Tom's the man with his solo demo shit. Punk rock not like that bubblegum trash Blink released this year. California needed a rawness.
I will always love AVA.
Love the username 👌
+BrandNew182 couldnt agree more... gotta love marks intagram photos
+BrandNew182 yeahh, more music , LESS DRAMA. just appreciate what they have done in the studio! BLINK 182 FOR LIFE!
2005 they split originally
I love Tom Delonge
you have to remember Tom's a lot older. The same energy isn't there as when he was younger.
Nah, Tom's an egotist. He's not worth your overzealous hero worship, honestly.
StarCrossedPimp I get what you're saying, BUT, what a lot of unhappy fans are trying to get at is that they want the collaboration between Mark, Travis and Tom, not some other lineup
Mike Hawk I agree. I wanted that too, but if they're on different pages so much that they cannot work together, it's unreasonable to expect that.
I just really love what Tom brought to the table and that their was always a special energy with him in the mix.
tom grew up, blink didnt
Draven Aylesz false
Draven Ayles incorrect
Draven Ayles truthn‘t
While I do agree with you on many points in this video, I highly recommend that any Blink 182 fan or fan of Tom Delonge himself should go watch the Pursuit of Tone Documentary on him. It really puts everything into perspective on Tom's reasons for leaving and what he wants to with his life now. It's really awesome at explaining some early Blink 182 also.
Fucking amen brother
I started listening to become passionate about music around the time they reunited, in fact neighborhood was the first album I ever bought on release, so it's extra sad to see the band going through all this shit again just because Tom is being a diva again.
I agree with everything except for the end where you say "don't come back, we don't want you"
If Tom can ever convince Mark and Travis to welcome him back, I think that would be great. It would run the risk of starting the whole cycle over again but they don't have as much to lose at this point
FINALLY!!! Despite being a little harsh, you are totally right. I always thought exactly the same but never bothered to elaborate. Good one!
Dude, great video! I totally agree with you. Its sad and also growing more annoying that the drama (fans arguing with each other) is still happening. Im just excited to hear their new upcoming music and hopefully they tour. Other than that everyone should just chill lol.
really love your videos man! keep it up!!
Tom just wants to express himself and make a community of people that think the same way as he does
lol do you really think mark and tom were writing those drum tracks?
Get your facts straight, he actually wrote drum parts on some songs before the guitar and bass. Tom and mark wrote around it when they liked the beat.
What song was Tom singing at 5:30?
Up all night
Great work man. Really enjoyed the video!
You took the words out of my mouth for years. Amazing.
Everyone go watch Tom's documentary if you're interested in his side of the story. It doesn't justify everything, but it's from his perspective.
I think your to young to understand why the guys from blink grew apart.
strongly suggest you search up on youtube "ernie ball pursuit of tone tom delonge" gives a lot of understanding to what hes doing these days and why , also explains his whole life well and why he made certain choices you may disagree with , very interesting to say the least.
Considering tom is one of the coolest inspirational men on EARTH he has alot of shit to do than just please his fans the guy has a family
I agree, I loved tom before Neighborhoods, and really I think he started not caring in the untitled album. He just showed up, played, and left. He used to be fun. I will be happy when he goes back to the band, hopefully he will be back to his original, and funny self again.
Can you have another playlist with these sorted from oldest to newest rather than how you have the playlist right now?
Good idea
It was just an idea. I do a lot of playlists for my uploads like that.
ever think tom might be tired of playing the same songs every show...all the small things...first date...rock show....he is a progress guy that wanted more diverse sounds.i always thought tom started sounding horrible because he lost interest in the music..but even with his new stuff with ava he sounded terrible...but still sounds normal on studio releases..bottom line blink with never be the same without tom..and skiba sounds almost as bad as tom does live...
I think all things different things that Tom is doing is awesome, but I think he also needs to be back in blink.
ugh everything in this video is so accurate. thank you lol so excited to see them with skiba
Yep you pretty much killed it. I usually disagree with blink opinions but this was SPOT on. And thank you for addressing how Mark and Trav are super public with everything. That hurts us too. Well done!
He was forced to pick between Blink and his family and he chose his family, he is a bit arrogant but you’ve got to respect his decision
Thank you! I was done with Tom when he quit on the band the 2nd time and nothing on earth can make me change my mind.
Great facts added too. Subscribed :)
Great video. I agree with all of your points.
Actually dude, all of his projects (or most of them aka. Angels and Airwaves) so yeah, and dude people aren't perfect, and he has a passion that he is fulfilling in his life because music isn't the only thing he HAS to focus on
I'm not even watching this video or reading these comments. TOM DELONGE ROCKS, PERIOD!!!
i was and still am so fucking angry at Tom for what he did, i'm just happy Mark and Travis were able to move on and have fun with the band again

i'm a fan of the band and have been for a long time, i can appreciate that Tom is doing his own thing but he didn't have to be so crappy to his friends. i mean back when the came to Australia for soundwave Travis couldn't make it because he is scared of flying, he tried his best and had a back up drummer ready if he just couldn't do it. after this Tom flipped his shit at Travis and blamed him for it. he even tried to kick him out of the band. and the there are a lot more shitty things where that comes from that happened towards the end
I went to see blink this past July it was an ok show, it was nothing like when shit fuck cock sucker mutha fucker shit and twat tom I'm in a fucking band played with em. over all blink not the same now that Tom's gone. I'll support blink still, but I'm more of an AVA fan.
Israel Moreno i feel like it's not actually a now that Tom's gone thing, i think it's just because they matured and got over it, just left it behind in the early 2000's. you could see that they were going through a change with the self titled album and now they're where they are now and mark has stated he loves the new album and that it's probably the best he's done. people change and so do bands it's bound to happen when they've been around for so long. i mean have you seen Mark's twitter? he's a memeing dad now.
blink is dead. the new album is garbage
Eddie The Head they were gone once neighbourhoodz dropped
The last time I saw them was 2003 and you could feel the tension between them and Toms lack of energy
No bias. Observation- People change, mature and develop other interests. Sometimes in ways that we don't understand or like.
You should do a video called problems I have with myself
LMAO 😂😂
Hard to admit, but I couldn't agree more. Tom Delonge is the one who inspired me the most to pick up a guitar back when I was 13 years old. It's so disappointing how he changed and just didn't care about blink anymore, but I'm really excited to hear the brand new blink-182 with Matt Skiba, who's way more talented than Tom these days.
yeah I'm excited for new material and if Matt even gives twice as much effort as Tom did the band will benefit from him coming into the group.
But just wanna point out that I think Tom possesed a greater writing talent than Mark simply cause Plus 44 was a major fail and AVA & Box Car Racer was a huge success in my opinion
plus 44 is way better than ava
ava sucks
you should get off tom's nuts
its totally the opposite for me.i really love +44 melancholic music and each of their songs is full of sensations and emotions, they made 1 album and i love each song of it,ava songs on the other hands make 2/3 good songs in each album but the other one are so empty and repetitive to me,just there because they had to fill the album with something.hey but i listen to both of them,i like them both anyway, but from my point of view,+44 songs are way a better product than ava's songs
***** if you've only heard one of their songs, then maybe you shouldn't be talking?
This guy needs to watch the tom delonge movie
bro we need an updated video
Please watch them live at the Reading Festival in 2015!! Such a great show (one of their last I believe) and it's amazing how happy Tom is and how connected he is to the audience and Mark and Travis! Mark and Travis (more so Mark because he's actually the one with the mic) seem a lot more distant and just really don't match Tom's energy. Tom has been an idol of mine for years and I totally understand where you are coming from, but I think you see some of these things differently than they really are, but at the end of the day its okay because it doesn't change who he is or who you are and it's just an opinion :)
hey man! got a question. did tom sold machbeth?
+Vicente Campuzano are you kidding? it cant be NOOOO
Tom is really talented, nothing against you but some people in the comments need to realise that
TOM DOESNT HAVE TO STAY WITH BLINK
What classifies as an Long-Play album anymore?
To The Stars (8 tracks) reached the standard LP mark of 25 minutes.
Of Nightmares and Chasing Shadows were both 4 track EPs both clocking at around 17 minutes.
And both The Dream Walker Instrumental and Demo albums are just extensions (or bonuses) to the initial release.
Let's have a civilized understanding before the Tom-bots blow this comment up.
i feel as if a lot of people forget that his dad passed away a month before he left, I mean that may have played some big affect on his life.
I totally agree of every statement you made man! Great work
Lmao well this video aged badly . Everyone wants him back now
I've known about blink 182 since I was four because my uncle really liked Aliens Exist which was a pretty recent song at the time but never really got into them since last year's summer vacations because my dad also liked Blink but I never knew it, and now they are coming back!
Took the words out of my mouth. Great video.
You took the words right outta my mouth about Tom. I love Tom and I always will, but he just has done some things that I know he's gonna regret later on in the future when his ten thousand projects fail. There are quite A LOT of things you were missing, but you touched on the main things he has done recently and in the past, but eventually his skeletons that are in his closest will come out :D
I do want to say, I've got mad respect for you. It takes so much courage and bravely to talk about artists/bands that their fanbase could end up in jail for murdering people who speak harshly about them. I like your honesty and unapologetic opinions :D
I'll always have a soft spot for Tom as he was my first musical hero, but the dude has completely gone off the deep end.
I see your point of view, I totally understand.I myself like Tom, but your very correct on some of these things
