  • Live audio from the National GMRS Net hosted by myGMRS.com and the Tucson GMRS Association.
Tonight's Topic: Something you wish you knew when you first began GMRS
This net utilizes a new format where participants are asked to check in on their regional nets beforehand, or they may check-in via mygmrs.com/nets if they are unable to make their regional net.
Only the roundtable portion is performed nationally, as this will significantly shorten the net and keep the dialog moving.

I’m just getting into the hobby glad I found this channel. How do I find repeaters in my area that are connected to this network?

For what it's worth, I do believe that most gmrs licensees are using radios that are not part 95 certified. It just really is not that important.

I'm in the Northeast and don't see a lot of published repeaters. I did pick up a mobile unit and am now picking up more chatter but finding that it's either kids that got FRS radios for Christmas or people running businesses using GMRS (plow guys, local retail). Nobody using call signs but based on the discussions I know I'm picking up gmrs repeater traffic when the plow guys are talking about customers 30 miles away. Hoping the repeater net picks up.

@baofeng bil🇺🇸 I'll have to pay more attention but I believe you are correct. I scroll through the repeaters but don't have don't have the input/output tones so I'm in listen mode only.

i just came across this. I am new to gmrs. I just have a couple hand helds and just got my license today. I didn’t realize there is a national network.
    Is this meeting still occurring?

On split tone repeaters if you cannot set a different tone between send and receive but you can disable one then you could just set the tone to transmit to tower. Another option would be to set the transmit tone and use the squelch button to listen to response but it's a bit annoying lol.

I live near Charlotte NC and I'm surprised there are no repeaters in my area. There is not a lot of radio traffic in my area. I have tried to find people to talk to but have made no contacts.

@@Sniperfox1 The only way I know to find repeaters is to go to mygmrs.com and look under repeaters. There are none in my area that I know of.

The problem with gmrs is most repeaters are private or pay unlike ham is open/free

Doesn't seem to be any repeaters in my area (Raleigh, NC area). The one that was available went down a few years ago and was never set back up from what I can tell. Shame, I really like this and don't think I will be getting my HAM for a while.
