I was going to be late for work. I’m a nurse, worked in an Intensive Care unit. During the April, 2011 tornado chain that roared through the South, I had to pull over on the freeway due to blinding rain and lightning. I called by boss, held my phone near my car’s window, and told her a funnel cloud was directly in my path. She heard the roaring rain and thunder, told me, “No problem, just stay alive and get here when you can.” I got to work about 30 minutes later. Quite a disaster. The twisters that hit that day were beyond anything I’d ever seen before, and I grew up in Tornado Alley. 😳
3:22 Autism or not, I feel like it’s pretty reasonable to want a funeral for a beloved family pet. Cats live 15-20 years when cared for well. If you’d lived with and been close with a person for 20 years, you’d go to their funeral. Why is it different? Do animals really mean so little to some people?
considering there are people who keep the family dog in a cage when its not meal time or time to take cute pictures, when its a fenced yard it could roam in and will simply give it away when it becomes too much, go get another when they're lonely for a new "baby" only to repeat the cycle, yea not everyone sees pets as family. I on the other hand have two "kids" 17 and I know I'm going to be a mess when it their time.
That one story where the guy is stuck on the highway and his boss was in the same traffic jam just a few cars back had me rolling, what are the actual chances of that? So funny
I was a few weeks into a new job working for a very small company. Boss goes on a tirade about how he just bought a new jug of soap for the bathroom and how this one better last at least 3 months or he's not buying soap anymore. Later that day I ask a coworker if the boss has a few screw's loose? Does he really think we are stealing soap?. And my coworker Brad informs me how much he loves that soap and sometimes takes a Styrofoam cup of it home with him. So Boss isn't crazy he just has to deal with crazy employees.. Making him seem crazy.
At my current job (super small town has 4 employees including the manager, (owners live in a different town) the only question I was asked during my interview is “are you going to do your job.” And I was sent on my way, in and out in less than 30 seconds
Was washing my work clothes when someone stole the washer from our laundry room that was washing them. They also stole the coin collectors and took a dump in the dryer, and ran it. Think I still have the pics of the vandalism.
"theres a house blocking my driveway". This was me, and it actually happened lol heavy rains, erosion, and mountainous terrain combined with stupidity and incompetence meant my new neighbors mobile home had slid down the hill and was indeed blocking the front gate to my driveway. I COULD have driven around it, but...fk that.
If you duck up your suspension trying to off road around the driveway the insurance company probably wouldn't have taken the excuse of "my neighbor's mobile home is blocking my driveway and i had to go to work" as an excuse, so probably good call there.
My girlfriend was late to work because she found a dead body and stayed to direct an ambulance to it. She got written notice for it and was scolded that why didn't she take a picture of it as a proof.
Well... Actually there should be labor laws that prohibit stuff like the "fired while in chemo" stuff. I know a very few amount of people uses headache, cold or stomach bugs as an excuse not to come to work or to prolong their weekend... But stuff like chemo or a hospital stay that's not because of a terribly reckless exident should never get anyone fired. Why am I mentioning the reckless accident? Well... In that case the reckless accident could be a legitimate reason to reevaluate if said person is suited for the job. Especially if it's a job with high risk tasks that shouldn't be done by a person who is already slacking off with basic road safety rules
Had strep throat once , manger didn't believe me, and made me come in after i saw the doctor. Already had appointment, so i went. Never have i seen a manager jump so high or so fast in my life. If i wasn't hurting so bad, i would be on floor laughing hard.
One Monday I hadn’t arrived at the Temple for work. They called me and I realized that I was late. (This never happens due to my OCD.) I don’t remember what happened later or the entire workday. The next morning when I hadn’t gone in they called my emergency contact. My brother got to my condo but I was not answering the door or phone. He called for police and an ambulance. My uncle showed up with a key and my brother and the rescue workers entered. They found me in my bed wrapped in a sheet. The ambulance took me to the hospital. Turns out a had a heart attack and stroke. Then in the hospital I had another of each. When I came to I realized that I was in a hospital but had no idea of what happened. There is no memory of any of it. While in the hospital for just under a month my condo was destroyed. This was the third time I lost everything. Before there was a fire and a flood. I had to stop working so would have no income and moved in with my mom. Also had to get rid of my car since with no money couldn’t pay for car insurance.
When I was in high school the throttle on my rusty old nissan pickup jammed open and got in a minor crash. But I did get a minor head injury. Big bruise on the side of my face more than anything. My boss said I was making things up and told me to come in get written up, even with a doctors note.
That sounds rough! Getting hurt and then dealing with a boss who doesn’t believe you is a total nightmare. At least you’ve got a crazy story to tell now!
@@alexhaider3107 Ehh, not immediately but not long after. And not because of that, simple because the store was toxic as hell and laid me for getting sick with pneumonia during christmas.
I’m assuming you’re in the US, because we’ve got some shaaaattttyyyyy workers’ protections here. But my question is… isn’t that illegal AF? Not that I’m saying you should’ve brought up the legality of it, because I know how oppression and power dynamics work and it’s not always easy to stand up for yourself. I just left a place that broke so many laws and exploited us in so many atrocious ways that I could sue the ever-loving crap out of that owner. I’m broke but I feel so much better. Traumatized, but I’ll be ok. Hope you are in a better place these days as far as employment goes. ❤
I worked as a care aid and had to call in and say I think I broke my arm only for my nurse to tell me can you come in after you get home from the doctor
Silly rule we have is we only get 20 minutes throughout the day to go bathroom, any more than that and we can get written up for going over allotted hours (we're apparently meant to aim to go bathroom during our breaks and lunch), we also get 15 lateness added if we're more than 4 minutes late to work, more than 19 minutes and we lose 30 minutes; needless to say some of my coworkers end up on the bad end of that due to train cancellations and strikes
I've never had anything this good, but my parents went on holiday when I was 17 and so I had to get the bus to sixth form and it was delayed, so I emailed my history teacher that I was 'relegated to the bus' That made her laugh (she could almost hear the distain in my voice 😂)
The story of throwing your back out I can relate to!! It's happened to me a couple of times and one of those times was while I was work; I work at dry cleaners and I was trying to get clothes out of large cart we put them in until we throw them into the machines to be cleaned, what I was trying grab was at the bottom of the cart, next thing I know is I feel a big twinge of pain and blacking out for a few seconds, when I came to, my boss (Who saw what happened) told me to finish up and head home.
The loud boss thing is false. The best bosses I've ever had were "passionate"and weren't scared to chew somebody out. They'll put the same energy into defending you they put into every other aspect of their job.
I was working at a burger king in a nowhere town in wyoming (the BK is no longer there) and one day i woke up very sick, i almost never get sick but when i do its bad. Well i was dizzy nauseous and delirious. Despite this as we only had a landline, i stumbled to the living room to call in. And got a busy signal... Since it was very likely i wasnt hitting the right button my boyfriend at the time dialed it. Still busy. I laid on the couch for an hour hitting redial and then my bf sent me to bed. When my boss finally called asking where i was and was told the truth he called us liars and fired me. Within a month that same guy had fired nearly everyone who worked there for equally petty reasons before having a full nervous breakdown and getting sent to a psych ward.
I really like your content a lot, you always do a great job. Just one comment if that's all right! Personally I'm not so into the fake accents ^^; You know how it's cringey when an American tries and fails to do an English accent? Well it's also just a tiny bit cringey when an English person tries to do an American accent, haha! I know that part of the reason you do it is to distinguish between the different commenters, but personally I would like it better without the accents. You still do a fantastic job overall and I appreciate your work much more than the channels that use a computer-generated voice for these things. Please keep it up, I look forward to more.

That volcanic eruption was in Iceland . I wouldn't call Iceland obscure .

Story 4 why not "turn on the tv" expecting the boss to watch nothing but the news

People don’t take male victims seriously :(
A common response is “you could’ve just left or defended yourself.” …that’s not how it works.

Omgoodness I am so truly sorry. I hope that things turn around and I hope miracles of happiness happen to you. ❤️.
Wow….very sorry all that stuff happened to you. I hope you’re doing okay now and are back at work. 😔
I live in Seattle and remember the bee accident. It was crazy. We also had a bunch of fish block the road once.
When I was in high school the throttle on my rusty old nissan pickup jammed open and got in a minor crash. But I did get a minor head injury. Big bruise on the side of my face more than anything. My boss said I was making things up and told me to come in get written up, even with a doctors note.
I really hope you left that place immediately. That’s toxic as fuck.
I’m happy you are okay though, you’re quite lucky on that one.
