you should check out the fiio tr5 like this but with Bluetooth also. and for those who do not know mqa is quack basically the quality of mp3s in a FLAC file.

and a suggestion for your playlist would be Tank by the seatbelts from the cowboy bebop soundtrack

I thought my Dragonfly Red Cobalt was the epitomy of portable DACs until I received the THX Onyx as a birthday present. Holy cow. I had noticed that on my Dragonfly, the heavier bass could get a bit overpowering, even muddy at times but thought it was just a byproduct of a good DAC. The Onyx put that chest thumping bump back into the sound instead of some bleed through into the mids. I had the IFI Hiip DAC for a while as a portable solution, since I use the IFI Zen DAC II at home, but it just became too cumbersome on the go.
The DAC in the Zen and Hip DAC are the same ESS chip and I like their sound, although it does tend to color the music through the mids but that's not a bad thing, it sounds good. Against the IFI devices, the Onyx brought out the sparkle in the highs much better though.
I have a fairly good amount of DSD/DSF files and I found that some of them were being decoded by the Onyx, and some were not. Not sure what that is about but it still sounded as good as anything I've ever heard on a portable device. For the record, I listen through the Moondrop Blessing 3 or the Emotiva Airmotiv GR1s. In my opinion, the GR1s are a superpower, even a bit above some of the more expensive headphones.

Such an amazing little device! I would need a Lightning connector version or adapter though since I'm stuck in the dark ages with my iPhone.

i've been holding off for years to get a new phone due to damn near all of them ain't got a headphone jack. i prefer to use Graphene OS and it only works on pixel devices so i had to give in a get one. wouldn't ya know i've already lost 2 different ear buds and them damn thing ain't cheap!!! if only they made ear buds that were attached to a wire or something so we wouldn't lose them shits.................. anyways, i can't believe i'm sayin this but i might just and seek out this friggin dongle to get my wires back. good lookin out bruh

Honestly, I do the same thing from time to time, I have plenty of earbuds but I like to use a pair of IEM's or just my wired headphones and these dongles have infinite value just right there. Now this one is expensive but it does sound pretty good.

My question is, when running this on windows host with THX spatial audio, can you change the bits and khz through windows option? Or is stuck at 32 - 48khz? Has anyone found a workaround with this?
