The right stick contest is so trash this year. It used to be how you could contest without fouling while jumping with triangle/Y was the risk of better contest and/or block for the potential consequence of fouling.. such an unnecessary change
It's SUPPOSED TO be trash. It's completely lazy and doesn't work in real life as much as y'all want to believe. You want to not have to jump to defend and lock up but also want to play as Klay Thompson on offense who shoots over lazy contests. Play actual defense
@@Blackobra614 thats cap. unless you're an elite shooter, a hand right in your face will always make you adjust your shot. now those 85+ 3 players should have a good chance of hitting that, but why am i stroking those same shots with a 77 3 ball?

2k needs to watch hours of flim on defense cause there are more than one way to guard a perimeter player. You don't spend a lot of time shuffling on defense. It's a mix of different foot works combined. And the only time you get those different Animaton footwork is when you get 94 feet or immoveable.
I hate the hands-up contest system this year. If you do not toggle onto a player, your man won't raise his hands. Your speed, arm length, and height play a bigger part in contesting shots than perimeter defense. I made a 6'5 guard with a 6'6 wingspan and if I'm not close enough my contest won't even register, even though I have 94 perimeter defense I find myself having to jump, just to make people miss. Because they can shoot over me as well. Or myplayer will try to contest while squatting down for some reason. Or the contest will make him run into the offensive player making him foul rather than just get a decent contest.
@freshswagga100 of course but at times, my player will move forward when contesting but at times, it will just stop well before I tell it to stop and just raise its hand. Plus even if you’re taller than them, an escape move will make your contest obsolete. I had a 6’7 point guard 3 n’ D type. Fairly decent wingspan and 94 perimeter defense. I will be face to face with the shooter and they’ll be able to shoot in my face, even though they’re 6’3. Also, these escape moves sometimes disable my ability to do hands-up contests at times. It's complete BS.
ya they have anti help defense. thats why all these casual people love this 2k. you can sit corner all day and it will punish the defense for not just sitting with you. in the past you could bate a shooter and close out when they get in their shooting form but 2k24 literally freezes your player so you can't do that or switch assignments quickly
@@lbc_benfrankthats insane I have a 83 perimeter and have no issues contesting I just have problems keeping up with shiftier guards. With a 99 Im clamping anything lol
the main thing i absolutely dispise about hands up defense specifically in closeout situations: your character will get a specific closeout animation on a shooter that actully makes them slower than if they just walked up and you will also never get an actual contest with this kind of animation. which begs the question: why tf is this in the game if its entirely pointless?? in a closeout situation its always better to sprint into the shooter first and then put your hand up, walking up with your hand up will just give you a pointless animation that slows you down or even stops you entirely doing a contest at a distance that doesnt actually contest the shot.
bullshit boy, sb slid up to me while i was shootin in this same position never jumped didn’t even use the turbo if you ask me and still got a 54% contest i can shoot so i hit the shot but the fact it was a 54% from this form was bogus asf
The thing is that’s true in real life too, you run slower with your hands up then running up to the player. Putting your hands up on defense when you are away from the ball handler is bad defense.
@@Luneytoon but its too over exaugurated in 2k. Hands up away from a defender isn't great defense but what's worse is being in full sprint and losing all your momentum so the shooter can be "open" where as if you just ran past them it'd be 30% contest

No lie I was testing this myself on the 1s court yesterday and was thinking about you dropping a video on this. I found that when I’m guarding right-left shot hunters if I keep my hand down they miss more often because less badges pop in their favor. Sometimes it’s just best to let them shoot open, works a lot better for the builds with around 80 3pt.
@@MellyVilleYT it works within reason especially on the lower 3pt builds. But don’t get me wrong if your in a position to get a decent contest put your hand up. But if you know even with your hand up it’s gonna be open open just let them shoot.

I play with the right stick pointing at my opponent the entire time I’m playing. It helps so much on defense if you don’t believe me try it. You also are doing this test far from the ball handler not actually testing it up on them playing defense.
