  • The new iPad Pros with the M4 chip have been released, and looking beyond the hype, they are incredibly underwhelming. This video discusses the honest perspective of an iPad Pro owner regarding the device and explains exactly who this tablet would appeal to and who it would not be good for. Many limitations I have encountered with the device are brought up in this video, shedding more light on why it's absolutely not a laptop replacement. Thanks for watching! I am thinking of buying one of the new 11-inch iPads and am looking for opinions about it. A very informative video. Thank you!

      Thanks for watching. One thing worth noting about the 11-inch iPad Pro models is that the M1 and M2 versions lacked the mini-LED screen, while the 12.9-inch versions had it. This new M4 model finally addresses that by giving the 11-inch model the new OLED screen. However, the software on the M1, M2, and M4 versions remains exactly the same, and none of the apps can fully utilize the new chip's power. The M2 did introduce some drawing feature gimmicks if you're into that, but otherwise, these tablets are mostly for content consumption. The model you choose will depend on your willingness to pay, but the design of the tablet itself was perfected many years ago, so you wouldn't be buying one of these tablets for the physical hardware, as they are all very similar. The only thing holding them back is the software, so you will want to do some reading in that section to determine whether spending a lot of budget on an iPad is worth it. I've heard many stories where people spent more of their budget on a MacBook and then just bought a cheaper iPad to complement it, as realistically, the iPad is very hard to use standalone.

      @@EntertainmentAnarchist That Oled display is my main reason for buying it even if i have to do it in 3 way payment i have an Oled TV and i highly appreciate a tandem oled iPad pro i waited 4 years for this so i'm happy i see why most are not happy because of the OS but it's just not worth the reason for not buying this iPad and especially after fixing so many model issues! so the previous version are a worse deal imo at this moment idk how apple could ever top this model iPad in the future it better be the same with huge OS changes that only work on those new models for it to make any sense

    As long as ipads only gets ipados....any upgrades to the hardware beyond the m2 are mostly for bragging rights. Even the m2 is wasted on these tablets....like giving a cruise ship the speed of a speedboat....a big "what for?"

    The 2018ipad is the last ipad you will ever need, in terms of what an ipad i capable of doing, any hardware beyond that is just not gonna get used much to justify an upgrade to a new model. Like you mentioned its really the things that i use often that kill the ipad, not playing nice with connected devies, and not having a proper file manager is a complete deal breaker for most work people.

      I agree. The 2018 iPad perfected the design and truly feels timeless because every iPad after it looks the same. I couldn't discern any difference in performance compared to a newer iPad, although there are rumors that they are trying to blacklist a small handful of future "pro" apps to be exclusive to Apple silicone iPads or higher. If anything, its only limitation is that Apple could decide to end software support for it at any time, given its age of over 6 years, similar to what they did with MacBooks such as the 2015 models, which were consumer favorites. They already tried something like this with the A12Z iPad Pro (4th generation), which initially was not supposed to have received stage manager support. However, they faced a lot of backlash for it. At the current state of the iPad line, I don't think they would dare drop support for it because there are no significant features that would warrant such a move.

    Absolutely agree! MacOS on the iPad would fix so many problems and even make it a comparable device to the Surface line. But as it is, it's just a glorified, big version of an iPhone.
    Heck iPhones would be more useful if you could dock them to boot MacOS. But Apple has 0 innovation, they will be the last ones to do something so useful to their customers.

      Thanks for watching. An interesting comparison is Samsung's DeX mode. When you connect a Samsung device to a monitor, it can act as a trackpad and keyboard, or you can pair an external mouse and keyboard. The operating system then transforms into an equivalent of a Chromebook, converting all your existing apps into a desktop-like mode. You also have the option for the phone to act as a second screen for the larger monitor. By downloading a desktop-based browser like Kiwi that supports Chrome extensions, I was able to do a lot of coding for some of my websites and handle documents and spreadsheets with ease, just as I would on a desktop. A similar feature was planned for iPad Pros with the Magic Keyboard, but instead, it became stage manager, offering slightly better window arrangement. However, the apps themselves remained unchanged and often didn't work well with the trackpad. Apple starts with good ideas, but they took a step back with this new M4 iPad generation, marketing the device solely as thinner, similar to the butterfly keyboard MacBook days. They later reversed this by bringing back ports, the older style of keyboard, and making the MacBooks bigger. They could have doubled the battery capacity for the iPad instead and focused on the software, allowing the iPad to use MacOS applications like the full version of Safari, but that's nowhere to be seen. I haven't even heard them compare the iPad to a desktop anymore, because even they know it's not, contrary to what was mentioned in previous years.

      Yeah, they're never going to do that. The masses don't care about the cross platform of MAC on iPad. Apple positions iPad as a companion device. They sold billions of dollars worth of iPad last year. Just a thought.

    • @EntertainmentAnarchist
      @EntertainmentAnarchist  14 днів тому

      The net profit is substantially less, and iPad sales are significantly down because existing users aren't upgrading. The M4 series still does not address what 'Pro' consumers want, which suggests a continued downtrend.

    • @tafb94force29
      @tafb94force29 14 днів тому

      @EntertainmentAnarchist yeah, but obviously not enough for Apple to put Mac OS on an iPad. Whatever internal business analysis they conducted still suggests Mac OS isn't a priority. That down trend could go on for several more years. Just a thought.

      I highly recommend Surface laptops. Specifications vary between models, but Windows is far more capable than iPadOS, making a noticeable difference in video editing, browsing, or gaming. If you plan to use one long-term, make sure it has a reasonable amount of storage. Also, 16GB of RAM is increasingly becoming the standard, as newer models aren't very upgradable-similar to iPads. They function excellently as standard laptops, and I consider the touchscreen a bonus on models that support it. It makes simple note-taking very easy. Overall, my experience with the Surface brand has been quite satisfactory.

    • @EntertainmentAnarchist
      @EntertainmentAnarchist  17 днів тому

      Some of the Surface devices are actually hybrids, similar to the iPad, where you can detach the main device from the keyboard and use them as a regular tablet. The use case is questionable, and the iPad might win in terms of the software being designed from the ground up as a touch interface. However, for everything else from a technical standpoint, Windows does blow iPadOS out of the water in terms of compatibility with programs spanning several decades at this point. As far as MacBooks go, they are hard to beat in everything except price and gaming. On many MacBooks, you would also need to bump up the specs, for instance, from 8GB to 16GB of RAM, which costs several hundred dollars more on top of the price. This is definitely a way of planned obsolescence, but I do find that they are substantially more capable than anything an iPad can do at the moment. Comparing Windows laptops to MacBooks would likely need to be a video of its own, but they are both incredibly capable ecosystems. From the devices I own, they each get an entire day of battery life and do just about everything I could ask for. So, I can recommend going either route, just probably not with a new iPad in its current state.

    I am looking to buy an M1 Pro now that the new one is out, I don’t need it for work, it’s purely for content consumption. I’d rather a refurbished/open box M1 Pro than a new air. The pros have better screen.

    • @EntertainmentAnarchist
      @EntertainmentAnarchist  18 днів тому

      I agree. That is largely how I consider the iPad right now. It handles content consumption well with its many apps, and everything else is just a bonus. Its most common use for me is as a second screen paired with a MacBook and for occasional note-taking. It's very hard to do coding on it, for instance, or anything work-related because those same applications tend to be limited.

    • @EC-cm8sf
      @EC-cm8sf 18 днів тому

      @@EntertainmentAnarchist that’s a good point, a second screen for MacBook. The only work thing I would use it for is having the bank balances open on it (I do corporate accounting) i guess chase app probably works fine. I know heavy accounting softwares like rent manager don’t.

    • @EntertainmentAnarchist
      @EntertainmentAnarchist  18 днів тому

      Banking apps generally work fine on the iPad. While they don't offer any additional functionality compared to their iPhone counterparts, they are upscaled to make better use of the screen and may benefit from the locked-down environment of iOS. I've used the Chase app before, and one thing to note is that there's no copy-and-paste functionality for accounting work. For example, if I want to copy a number from statements within the app, it's not possible unless I take a screenshot and wait for iPadOS' AI to process the text, or I export the statement as a PDF and then locate it in the downloads folder to copy the numbers from there. These are some of the limitations in software compared to something like MacBooks, where I could simply open the banking app in a browser and copy whatever I needed. Sometimes, it's easier to bookmark the browser versions of banking apps on the iPad for the full experience, which fixes the problem above. However, occasionally there are issues with weird scaling or lack of optimization because the iPad does not use a 16:9 screen like most laptops. If you only need to view balances or scroll through transactions on cards, it works fine, but it's very tedious to get much else done. This largely summarizes the iPad experience as a whole, where I end up using the MacBook over it most of the time.

    • @EC-cm8sf
      @EC-cm8sf 17 днів тому

      @@EntertainmentAnarchist I don’t copy paste from the bank, it’s more for reconciling to make sure the accounting software has recorded the transaction/balances correctly. But it’s good to know the limits of iPad.

    the clear solution is to give macOS proper touchscreen support (without altering the original OS too much), and they could simply merge macos and ipados into the same system now. iPad would instantly become ... useful. and macOS would get more versatility / portability. this will never happen. apple wants you to believe you need an ipad for all your dumb consumption needs you could do with a macbook just fine.. and spend more money on them. it's ridiculous this tablet still exists at this point

    • @EntertainmentAnarchist
      @EntertainmentAnarchist  17 днів тому

      This is a very good point. I believe this was the original concept or intention of Stage Manager at some point, where using a Magic Keyboard would allow you to access some MacOS apps. However, they never really expanded on it besides the window management. The base MacOS apps are already substantially more capable than anything on iOS. For instance, just the Safari browser on MacOS supports a much wider range of different workflows or use cases and many more significant plugins than the same chipset can run. At this time, I can only see the A12Z iPad or the M1 version being practical because they are at a much more reasonable price than a new one with few differences in features (in fact, they even got rid of the entire ultra-wide camera on the M4 model to make it thinner), and they all run the same exact software but usually end up being used as a second display for a MacBook. Even something like Samsung DeX runs circles around an iPad at this point, and it would be incredibly frustrating to buy an iPad right now at full price.
