Had a few people notice and than ask how I fixed my focus issue with my Canon R6 camera. This is how I fixed it. Should work with all modern Canon Cameras. Absolute life saver.. I'm traveling in Italy filming a documentary and my R6 was just not focusing on anything, randomly on the 3rd day of filming.. it was really frustrating having to manually focus for alot of the shots but this has fixed the issue INSTANTLY. Absolute legend 🙏🙏
OMG thank you so much!!! Out of the blue my R7 was having terrible focus issues, being that I vlog turning up the responsive all the way up Is a life saver!! now my camera focuses extremely fast when I hold something up to the lens. Canon owes you for this one!
Thanks Greg. After a firmware update (to 1.3.0), I inexplicably lost eye detect and the ability to lock in the focus and reframe. It was incredibly frustrating. Your simple solution cut my stress levels to 0. Cheers!.
I just got my R6 Mark2, and I was having the same issue! Focus was jumping around way too much and not locking onto the eye. It's way better now - not perfect, but much better.
R6. I haven’t updated to any firmware. Mines Still at 1.1.1 and I recently had issues with eye detection with studio shoots, that I’ve never had!!! Hoping this fixes my issue. I’ll find out soon. Can’t figure what happened. I don’t change with settings.
Definitely solved my main AF issue after many great shots been missed 😫 Really no one had talk about this real problem, even canon service will not attention about it You are a good man Best wishes 🌸🙏🏼
Hi! Very impressive! Do you know about the sensitivity of AF pt select? I set to 0 but not on the -1. Do you only know about taking movies or you also know about shooting photos (bird for example)?
Thank you for your great video 😊 I noticed that the camera also focused badly on a wedding... Missed the subject many times 😢 Any suggestions what settings i should use next time ? I shoot manually just wanted to test tha Auto ia mode and the people are blurry in all images ... Like wtf 😮
THANK YOU!!!! Amazing that Movie Servo AF (in the stills menu!!) caused AF issues. I spent best part of 3 days wondering what I was missing and which setting needed tweaking. Movie Servo AF I didn't even consider. Your video was the ONLY one I found that addressed this issue. Thank you so much!!
For some reason I keep my auto tracking off. And my R7 is different than yours. I have my cases at AF page 2 and I dont have movie servo has no way to make settings? I have no idea why my R7 is completely different than yours and cant change it to lock on, I dont even have that option? Mine is in AF page 5 and my options are just on or off....so strange. Maybe this is why I get so many soft images. My camera is built different?
Helpful video, thanks, but on the R7 the tracking (#2) is called SERVO AF instead of MOVIE. NO biggie. Just pointing that out for people that might be confused when they can't find the word, MOVIE on their R7.
I wish it would work, I'll try... I have a Canon R10 and it can't accurately focus a running dog, it shows the focus point on the eye but most photos are slightly out of focus, almost worse than the old 100D. Been a month of disappointment with the R10... I use the Canon EF 70-200 L 2.8 II USM ii lens.
I have exactly the same issue with an R6. I just want one decent shot of my dog jumping over a fence. SO far most of them are out of focus. I know I could do much better manually but what's the point in having a camera that should track his eyes automatically. I turned off auto tracking which made it worse. Time to try what is suggested in this video. Let me know if you resolve the issue please, I will as well...
What about when you are looking at an object and then switch to something either closer or further and it doesn’t focus until you half press the shutter. I have an R6 Mark2, and it’s doing this.

I'm going to try this. Focus hunting is driving me nuts!
let us know if it fixed it.
It's always something (relatively) simple.
Glad you were able to resolve the issue.
me too. much happier now with the results.
Thanks Greg. Interesting that the new firmware would change the way the eye focus would track and require the adjustment.
it is weird forsure. but glad to have figured out how to fix it.
I just got my R6 Mark2, and I was having the same issue! Focus was jumping around way too much and not locking onto the eye. It's way better now - not perfect, but much better.
That was definitely the setting that helped me the most.

Good trick thank , will use on my R7 on video..
I will give this a try. What about setting on decelerating/accelerating setting just below?
Did you find any improvement?
Thank you very much for the info Greg.
Any time

Did a firmware update on Sony headphones. Ruined the noise cancelling. Not gonna do firmware update again.
Needed this thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Have you noticed any issues with stabilisation using the viltrox speedbooster?
I haven’t noticed anything.

Fantastic video and info thanks, ive had similar issues myself and this has resolved it.... This works on my 5D iv as well as my R6 mii, cheers
Glad it helped!
Does this fix apply only to movie or also for photos?
i would think it should work for both.
@@gregtoope thank you so much!
Gret you solved it.
simple fix. all back to normal. maybe even better than before.
