  • This is my attempt to show what the Time Tunnel would would have looked like it it were done with todays CG effects. I used the original mono chanel audio and played with it to turn it into stereo. To what time period would you go?

    Still one of the most beautiful sets ever made for a science-fiction production.

    Hard to believe The Time Tunnel being such a great show only lasted one season consisting of 30 episodes, yet Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea went on for four seasons consisting of 110 episodes. And The Time Tunnel was my favorite TV series of all time.

    I always thought The Time Tunnel helped teach you about History. All the shows took you back to a certain time and taught you something while being entertaining. Loved the Time Tunnel area. Doug always fought in a suit and tie and still managed to look dapper. Liked when they ended up on the Titanic.

    @jupitr2, Thank you. I always liked the design of the Time Tunnel and the idea of traveling to other times to see things of which there are few or no records. The tunnel seems like it should work. One of the attractions of computer graphics is it gives you the ability to see things that are impossible to see any other way.

    THIS is stunning, breath taking and AWESOME everything we thought Time Tunnel looked like as kids in our imaginations back then THIS video has me in awe and makes me feel like a kid again. Loved the control room complex and all those props THANKS

    One thing I liked about this video, but not at all the only thing, is that, since the set was forced perspective, you brought back the sense of the insanely long tunnel it's supposed to be when you look down it. Seriously cool!!!!

    Very cool videos and your attention to detail is fantastic! How many of us had wished that we could've worked in this Time Tunnel complex, or even the just visited the 20th Century Fox soundstages where the Tunnel lived for that short time, just to see and experience the sheer beauty of it. Your virtual tours here are nothing short of amazing. It takes us to where we've always wanted to go! Thank you and keep up the great work!

    @amosburke ,
    Thanks. I was once contacted by a Spanish language production company about, maybe using it, in a new series they were considering but the project was dropped. I think that it could be done as a period show, the 60s. Or it could be updated with the same basic chamber and tunnel with new computers and displays. I think it could be a great series.

    These videos are incredible! The tunnel complex comes alive with the computerized effects and animation! The sound effects totally capture the eerie mechanizations of Irwin Allen's temporal transporter masterpiece! Great video! Can you take us through the complex even further...or, perhaps into the tunnel itself? I would love to be able to 'explore' this virtual Time Tunnel in longer detail!!!!

    Very cool! With the effects you did in your other video that would be one of the tweaks that would have REALLY helped out the show, as I just finished watching the series and having those explosions all the time in the Time Tunnel and elsewhere in the show (happened several times in the last two episodes, it got pretty annoyingly distracting!) started getting pretty old!
    All that's needed now are military people, scientists and a few babes in lab coats :)

    As for which time period I would go, the answer's easy. December 21, 1965. The bar at the Chelsea Hotel in New York City. Arthur C. Clarke is living there, working on the novel form of "2001: A Space Odyssey" (collaborating with Stanley Kubrick, who is working on the film). Clarke gets a message to meet William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg down in the bar and goes for conversation and inspiration. I would dearly love to eavesdrop.

    I agree. This artistic concepts of Irwin Allen still floors me! I don't know how you guys make animations like this but the point is well taken. It looks impressive coming down on it cause it shows a lot more of the floor space and surrounding structure. Man that actual set must have been big as well. Shows like this should be re released for today's generation but the dysfunctional butt heads in Hollywood would only screw it up. Look what they did to the Lost in Space movie. Better left alone!

    captfheo1: Thanks. This tunnel has a forced perspective also. The first version I built was a real tunnel but perspective of segments farther down the tunnel become so small that the moiré patters become too severe. So I experimented with various cone depths and finally came up with one that worked. It’s one of those situations where the model winds up being more or less representative of the prop.

  • @capttheo1
    @capttheo1 12 років тому

    @KleveDave I have a feeling that one of the reasons that it looks so much better than the original is that this one doesn't have the actor's shadow hitting the back of the tunnel like the show. Even if it is forced perspective, you've made it look like it isn't and, even if it didn't get made, congrats on getting noticed by the big guys! Personally, I don't think it would work if they did it as a 60's show again. I think that, if they updated the hardware, it would work in a modern setting.

    The only problem is, modern computers are not as interesting to look at as the old Burroughs computer. I’ve been trying to figure something out that would be comparable and my best idea so far is a set of funny shaped boxes, with a few indicator lights showing computer activity, but with big, “Minority Report” like displays lined up in front. The big computer screens could perform the same function, in roughly the same position, as the old Burroughs computer.

    What was the main sound? Electricity turbine generator?

    • @DaveKleve
      @DaveKleve  6 років тому +2

      There is a copy of the original sound effect on the internet. I did modify it by splitting it up into two channels and added a few random delays between the channels.

    • @TheOwl
      @TheOwl 5 років тому +1

      I read somewhere it was a collage of sounds using turbines, an industrial refrigeration unit, some electronically generated sounds and a low bass note on a pipe organ.

    The original Tunnel only had about 9 or 10 rings. The rest was a fake backdrop. Problem arose with lighting the Tunnel for a particular shot, as the back of the tunnel showed shadows. But hey, were talking 1966 with no CGI. They did the best they could. The pilot remake in 2002 was a good story but the Tunnel was CGI and looked awful.
