15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
They used to be killed just for the meat, there were few Markhor left. Now they allow trophy hunting for them under a very limited license, usually only one or two per year in one area. The licenses are pretty much always $100.000 or more (sometimes over $150.000) so no one that lives in the area wants to kill the markhor for food because they are worth so much money. That's how they are protected. This has been done with lots of different endangered wildlife across the world and with great success. The markhor population has greatly increased since.

You didn't watch it, did you?
Foolish to put yourself and all those people in danger to kill an animal
It's foolish to speak out of ignorance....
